You'll probably all find this hilarious, but after last night, I just have no idea what to do with my roommate anymore. Here's a little background on him:
I live in a 3bedroom suite, and my roommate is a kind of fat Indian and a psychology major. The worst kind - an ostensibly friendly person that is secretly cocky at the core and very condescending to the rest of us since he "understands" our mentalities and motives, etc. He's in general a pretty unrespectable person who rarely showers, has no willpower, bitches a lot, and though he puts up a front of friendliness is really completely insufferable to most people.
But I like to think of myself as relatively accepting, and all of this is still fine, though, were it not for one thing:

WARCRAFT
He plays it OBSESSIVELY. I leave for class, come back 8 hours later and he is in the same position, with that pizza next to him and still sitting on his bed, hunched over his laptop playing. He uses Ventrilo or TeamSpeak or something - but the result is that he is constantly saying stuff into his microphone. My earplugs when I sleep are of no use; my headphones blasting music when I work are of no use. His voice is an unstoppable force of nature. (He also has a guildmate named Ed - imagine how confused I get all the fucking time.)
Moreover, he will sometimes invite FRIENDS over to play World of Warcraft, and they will gather around their laptops and yell and scream and curse. "FUCK YOU YOU MOTHERFUCKING CUNTRAG", "SHIT I GOT FUCKING GANKED SON OF A BITCH MOTHERFUCKER", etc.
All of this was at least tolerable to me, until last night.
So around 9pm yesterday I'm with this girl that I'm sort of kind of going out with maybe. We're watching Good Will Hunting, lying on my bed, door to suite closed, lights off, etc. About a quarter through the movie, in barges my roommate, opening the door and turning on the light. He sees us, and has the gall to ask "Oh......do you want me to leave?" (honestly, wtf??)
So I'm making noncommittal noises while frantically nodding my head behind Michelle, and eventually he takes the hint and goes out into the suite after a couple minutes fumbling around in his drawers, neither turning off the light nor closing the door. I remedy that, and we resume the movie.
Maybe 20 minutes later, halfway through the movie, he comes in again (and again doesn't knock, of course), turns on the light, and says, "Listen, do you guys mind if I come in for a little bit? I really need to use the Internet for a bit and I can't get it outside, I'm so sorry.." Michelle says "...yeah", and I'm cursing him under my breath. We keep watching the movie, thinking he's going to leave soon.
Here's the best part. Guess what he "really needed to use the Internet" for.
World of mother-fucking Warcraft. With volume, despite the fact that he owned headphones.
Also guess how long "a little bit" was.
FIVE HOURS. He was playing when the movie ended; he was playing when I saw her out; he was playing when I started studying for today's midterm; he was STILL PLAYING when I finally went to sleep. (In fact he is playing it right now as I type this, and he is using Ventrilo again, and he is talking to 'Ed' again, and I am getting very aggravated and confused).
He even half-watched the movie with us, laughing at some of the jokes and making "awwww" noises when Will was kissing Skylar. (GUESS WHAT I WASN'T DOING BTW)
I don't think further explanation of the rest of the evening is really necessary. Just try to imagine what it's like having a roommate play WoW so loudly near you while watching the movie you're supposed to be privately enjoying with a girl.
Honestly, I am so angry I'm not even sure what to do. This goes beyond just me and Michelle - this is just unimaginably rude and completely inconsiderate in every which way. I have not spoken to him yet, and I'm considering how I should confront him.

Buy a really long ethernet cable and have him to use his laptop for World of Warcraft in some other room when you need to sleep/study/play with girls. While not a perfect solution it could help to lessen the torment.

Hmm...I can see how this is going to be a problem. First of all, tell us just a bit more about the situation between you and him on a more personal level. What I mean is: how did you guys start off as roommates? Was he always so rude and obnoxious to you even when you first met? Also, is he the bullying type over you or are you just normally quiet and let him do as he pleases?
From the amount you ranted, I think it's best that you confront your roommate. Do it over lunch, do it while conversing with him and slowly changing the subject. If this doesn't work, I think you should try to somehow change suites, if that is an option at all. Defintely, however, you don't want to keep this bottled up in front of your roommate for too long since this kind of problem will probably get worse as you wait for it to pass. Just confront him.
That, or find him a girlfriend. That'll get rid of his WoW addiction asap ~_~.

We were roommates strictly through accident. This suite that I moved into was almost-pretty-much randomly assigned, and I knew everyone in here except him. Since they were all pretty close-knit, I offered to room with this "new kid".
Suite switching at this point is out. And finding him a girlfriend.......hahahahahahhahahahahhahahhhha

There are a some of my formerly-close friends who live about 5 minutes away from my place. Since the game came out I see them about three times a year, so I know how WoW-addiction can be ridiculous.
I don't understand why you would accept anything WoW-related he asks. I sure wouldn't. If these people can't limit themselves, fine, as long as it has no impact on me.

I mean it sounds pretty nerdy but if he promised some people he had to be there :/. I always hated it when people promised to play in SC tourneys online but didn't show up at the last moment.

What? My point was that people who were suggesting he just "tell him everything he just typed" is incredibly bad advice. Everything he typed here is aggressive and obviously said out of anger. Do you really think that would solve anything if he told him that in real life? His roommate woud probably just get pissed off, and then they'd argue some more, and then who the hell knows. Nobody is going to 'win' that argument.
As for you second comment - I seriously doubt GI is going to link him to this thread. But it is a funny idea.

It's a usual dorm bedroom, so the room is maybe 18 feet wide? It's a reasonably confined space.
I don't know what kind of clan he was in, but it's pretty unlikely, since he's usually not here on Sunday nights (hence why I invited her over this night), so if it was a special thing it certainly wasn't usually on Sunday nights.
And I am an ugly mofo =(

I agree with this. If you seriously want to make your living conditions better, take small steps to improve what you hate most. Like ask him to wear headphones and avoid ventrilo while your sleeping. Anything like "delete his characters" or related to getting him to stop playing WoW in general is a really bad idea.
Also, realize the fact that you're roommates and he is entitled to the room as well. He sounds like an incredibly "hardcore" wower, which means that he probably has schedules based around it. Don't expect him to drop his plans for something you decided to do spontaneously  talk to him and find out when he can be/willing to be gone
Honestly, I find being "sexiled" randomly complete bullshit. If I have something I need or really really want to do and my roommate brings home a random slut without any warning, I'm not going to bend over for him especially since he's a prick to begin with.

Whoever said to hide/steal/break his WoW CD, that doesn't do anything. The CD isn't required to play. All his information/chars/etc is stored on the WoW servers so if you can delete his char that's how you hurt him. Running a large powerful magnet over his laptop would work too, unless he starts trying to use your computer for WoW.
All that said, I would sit him down and have a serious talk with him. MOST people in this world are surprisingly understanding if you make an honest reasonable request of them. If you tell him in a stern but not overly hostile manner that what he did was not appreciated in the least and to not repeat it in the future, he may actually stop. If he doesn't, then it's time to declare war. Diplomacy first though.
By the way, how computer/tech savvy is he? I can think of a few things to do that may complicate his life a bit if you want to get back at him. Should the situation require it.

Seriously, man the fuck up and tell him to shut the fuck up and use his headphones, not to use teamspeak, and not to bother you when you're obviously otherwise engaged. Don't make a thread about it so that a bunch of other socially awkward nerds can give you ways to get around it without being an asshole: he himself is a douchebag according to you so bitchslap the cockblocking clown around some. If you already don't like him this shouldn't be hard to do.

You know for certain that he lied about not being able to get internet access (nearby library maybe, somebody else's computer) so that he could get to WoW access, right?
In in general, why didn't you ask him to use his headphones earlier? If you hadn't said that his WoW bothers you at all, then you've been giving him months of positive reinforcement that him doing whatever doesn't bother you. Thus, it soon becomes okay for him to play with loud sound, etc., maybe even when you have a girl over. Right now, confronting him is a little late, don't you think? -_-;;
Personally, I hate it when people have other people over in the room, so at least consider that (and how you haven't been previously sending the right message) before you tear him a new asshole or something as you should.

Dunno though, it's a 3 room suite? Maybe things are different. But if they aren't then some sort of cooperation is probably better than just saying "get the fuck out".

It's a bit hard to be assertive because he's still going to have to live with the guy for 3 months. After what GI tells him, there might just be an awkward silence every time they're in the same room. Though at this point, it seems that awkward silence isn't so bad compared to enduring his 10 hour WoW sessions.
IdiotWind, if GI's suite is anything like the one I live in, then the door automatically locks when you close it. However, people who live in the suite with you has a key to it. Also, GI did hint the guy to leave the first time. The second time, he assumed his roommate would be quick on the internet and then leave, so that was the only reason he allowed it.
I'd probably just try to tell him nicely since another 3 months of this would be hell.

You got cockblocked by WoW hahahahaha. Get a clue GI, when he comes in and turns on the light and shit and asks to use your internet connection, why the words "fuck you get out" didn't surface is beyond me. You don't leave your girl to answer the question for you. On the other hand if it's habitual and you know he's gonna be playing at a certain time and him coming in was expected, you can't really be surprised or angry. Sounds like the latter is true, and you're just frustrated knowing that as long as you're living with this dude that you're never getting any action until it adheres to his WoW schedule haha.

OMG I hate my roommate too. Just confront him already, GI. Why you've waited this long is beyond me. If you don't talk to him when he does something the first few times, then in his mind it's fine for him to do it for the rest of the term.
Another thing you should need to do is drop your negative attitude towards him. Don't think he can't see right through you, too: if he feels you see him as subhuman filth, then he will just reciprocate that attitude back at you, just like every person will. Believe me: based on my experience, if you try to talk to him with that kind of attitude in the back of your head then he WILL pick up on it. You will never make any progress with him (and confronting him will likely only make things worse) until you honestly believe that he is ultimately a good person. And you should show him that ultimately you are a good person, too.
Right now he might just be annoying out of ignorance. But once he knows how you perceive him (if he hasn't figured it out already), then he will probably start to annoy you intentionally as well.

If you're looking for some sort of solution it's quite easy. Just say something along the lines of:
Look [ insert name ], the other night when I was trying to spend some quality time with Michelle you totally fucked it up for me. I understand that you play WoW and that it's a serious thing for you but its gone too far. You play it all the time when I'm trying to sleep/study and I don't say anything. You play it when I bring a girl over and I don't say anything. You also lied to me saying you REALLY needed to use the computer for only a little bit. A little bit is not 5 hours dude. All I'm asking is to lower your voice when I'm trying to do shit [ sleep/study ] or be a little more considerate. It was pretty lame that you left the light on and didn't shut the door, come on that's common manners....Do you get where I'm coming from?
And then make it your own prerogative to make sure you tell him that you need some quiet or privacy time IN ADVANCE.
There's your solution.
If he doesn't respond in a positive manner then the final choice you have is to move out. There is no way you can continue to be a successful student in your environment. Forget student, you won't be able to be your own man.

i was going to say that you should talk to him nicely, but all this talk about "pretend like you are gay and scare the shit out of him until he moves out" leaves me amused. you said that he has friends who come over to play WOW. does his friend also have a room mate who hate WOW? perhaps you can have your roommate becomes roommates with his WOW buddy, and have the WOW buddy room with you instead. i know that moving rooms is hard, but in this case, you aren't moving rooms, you are just switching, so the logistics of it is easy and it shouldn't be very hard to convince the dorms...

When I used to live just me and my roommate (two story place but the two floors are connected so no privacy) if he was sleeping and had to wake up for work in two hours and I had a girl all I would have to do was call him, tell him to wake up, buy a few beers and rubbers for me at the mart, and get the fuck out of the house into a hotel before I got home...and he would do it without question or bad feelings (so long as his "success?" text message few hours later was answered affirmatively, if not his noble sacrifice would have been a waste)...sometimes he'd even just drudge into work 2 hours early on only 3 hours of sleep. Another time, he 18'd a girl on my bed while I was gone and admitted to it the next day. I harbored no ill will and went about cleaning my sheets happily.
Thats what friends are for.

After he "falls in love" with your in-game female persona, (god knows they all do!) you ditch him in game and tell him the truth, that you're indeed a man! Afterwards you post all screenshots, logs and pictures you've collected on any random site (and post a link here for the rest of us), this way you'll shatter his world, turn him away from WoW, AND get to mock him immensly.
If you tell us beforehand, and plan it all thoroughly - I guarantee we won't (or I won't atleast) label you as a zia, and the end results of this would be beyond hilarious for all of us !

Lots of advice here - all over the map. But basically I'd say your problem boils down to this - you fucked up. You had something important you wanted, didn't speak up, and now are mad about it.
You could have said "no, you can't enter". You could have told your girlfriend, "excuse me for a minute", and talked to him outside, after an hour you could have asked him to leave. Before it happened, you could have told him you were having a date and asked him to make other plans for the night.
So he's an asshole who only thinks about himself - most guys are. Plan for it in the future.

Here's my example of the same story from the other end. I'm coming back from the clinic after a strep test and running a fever of 102. I lay down in bed, hoping to die. My roommate comes in, informs me that his girlfriend and him are going watch a movie (first time i hear of it) and asks me to leave. I look at him unbelieveablely, and without a word I get up, grab a blanket, and head to an uncomfortable couch - where i spend the next two hours wishing i was in my bed. After two hours, the doors still closed and rather than dealing with it, i try to sleep on the short fucking couch. After 4 hours, i finally say fuck it, and sleep on the floor - waking up every few hours to spit massive amounts of snot into an increasing large sculpture of used tissues. I wake up in the morning, and tiptoe into the room so i don't wake the loving couple - but the room is completely fucking empty.
I find out later that the movie was defective, so after 20 minutes they left - without telling me.
Yes my roommate was a fucking asshole - but when he asked me to leave, i should have just handed him a used tissue and said - "blow me".

I know how annoying it is to live with people who are total assholes, it isn't always easy to train them. The advice of most of the annoying people today is basically not wrong in principle, they are just being dicks about it. Then again talking about it here opens yourself up for those kinds of comments so I hope you expected it.
If someone hasn't already suggested it, lay ground rules about when people can and cannot be quiet. If he refuses, consult the policies regarding your living arrangements. The idea of having to threaten him with housing policies crap is probably not appealing, but it will probably beat the current situation you are in. I for one would put the fear of god into him if he tried to pull that shit on me, and that kind of stuff is the reason why I've been in a single ever since the end of freshman year

i think a lot of people don't understand that the indian guy (a name would help humanize him) also lives in the room that you wanted him out of, at least it wasn't clear to me upon reading the original post.
i can see why you're pissed off about your date being ruined, and the teamspeak, etc., but he does have a right to be in that room too. so if you want him to leave, you have to ask him as a favour to you. yeah, he's clearly being somewhat inconsiderate with the teamspeak/sound, but he probably doesn't know how much grief it's causing you. talk to him about it instead of stewing and breeding this hate.

I was under the impression he was just going to get out; when it was obvious he wasn't, I thought it too late to bring it up now and tried to make the best of it instead of making the situation even more awkward (for her).

When I used to live just me and my roommate (two story place but the two floors are connected so no privacy) if he was sleeping and had to wake up for work in two hours and I had a girl all I would have to do was call him, tell him to wake up, buy a few beers and rubbers for me at the mart, and get the fuck out of the house into a hotel before I got home...and he would do it without question or bad feelings (so long as his "success?" text message few hours later was answered affirmatively, if not his noble sacrifice would have been a waste)...sometimes he'd even just drudge into work 2 hours early on only 3 hours of sleep. Another time, he 18'd a girl on my bed while I was gone and admitted to it the next day. I harbored no ill will and went about cleaning my sheets happily.

What a funny story anyway. One of my workfriends is a big WOW addict and he comes in to work completely pale and sick-looking cos he hasn't slept at all. He gets pizzas about 5 nights a week 2 at a time and hardly ever throws the boxes out so his apartment stinks. Not great roommate material either.
