I remember a similar case happening here in Holland, some kid who had to drink water for his pledge everytime he got told or w/e. I am 99% certain that that defense won't work. I'm very confident that (in the American legal system at least) the contest holders are always responsible for knowing more about the safety concerns of their contest than the people who enter it. Which makes the most sense to me, too. I am fairly sure the radio station can be successfully sued for this, and her family should definitely do it. At the very least, the extra money will help to compensate for the fact that this family has no mother any longer. They might have to hire maids to clean up, therapy for the kids if they're young and have a hard time dealing with this, etc. There are going to be myriad negative affects for the family from this tragedy, which in my opinion is a very good reason for them to sue, so that at least they will have the extra money to deal with those affects. I can realistically see the radio station getting away without paying a cent, unfortunately (good lawyers + gullible jury (+ waiver signed by her?)). But hopefully that won't be the case. All the radio station had to do was Google for "water overdose" to learn about this effect. Now, if she had died of some other, much less predictable complication, then I can understand why the radio station would not be liable for her death. But I think it is perfectly reasonable to expect them to at least try that single Google query or something equivalent before running this contest.

Should i know the structural limitations of 5 inches of pure grade 3.0 aluminium at a 25 degree bank when hit with 5000 lbs of roller cars at a velocity of 55 mph generating a 3g force tripling the overall load against the orbital bearing nuts which hold the tresses together at 45 degree angles using solid I-beams secured with 20 feet of solid concrete in a rock face overlooking the edge of a cliff whos dirt after a rainy day can only maintain a sustainability of 300.352 lbs per square inch after the sun comes back out during the summer with an average humidity index of 4 only to have the metal break apart and the coaster go flying off into the abyss because some jackass designer didnt bother to do his homework when putting this shit together?yes they would lose its like a company not putting danger warnings on a rollercoaster or having suitable safety supervision Look at the responses to this thread, most of the people here didnt know that water could be toxic either. Now if they were told that they could die from drinking 10 gallons of water in under an hour then the responsibility has been shifted to them. But obviously these stupid DJ's dont know shit either.
