how much self control does it really take to smoke weed in moderation? i've always had good self control in the past with things like video games but i just wanted to consult my favorite forum about whether or not it could legitimately screw me up. any indirectly related advice is welcome too.
thanks <3 hey man, wait til your 18 or even a little later, recent study by Duke on their NZ study group found correlation between adolscent usage and reduced iq. Counters to the arguement are the usual socio-economic stuff but no reason to not play on the safe side, I know plenty of kids that are just burnt out cause they started as early as 13( not sure cause stopped learning from being high all the time or actually cause weed detrimental to iq). Point is, just wait til your brain is fully developed to play it safe, then you can be philosopher smoker, and not the dimwit image people associate with pot.
That study was debunked for the exact reason you said... socio-economic factors. There has been no correlation to show marijuana, the drug itself, lowers iq numbers. A better way to put it would be if you spend your teen years involved with pot you're going to make a habit of it and focus on weed stuff rather than school factors. Not saying 100% of your focus but it does take away from it, i mean cmon, it's fun to get high and not study lol.

I started smoking at 15, and if I found regret useful, I'd probably prefer that I had waited a bit. That being said, exposure to drug culture is one of the best ways for a young mind to see the cracks in the veneer of our polite, conventional society; unfortunately, not everyone is suited to undertaking that process (regardless of age), and I'm fairly certain that any pothead or casual drug user knows this very thing all too well. I've seen my enjoyment and relatively appropriate "handling of things" while doing drugs contrast very strongly with my friends who did them with me, and accordingly I've lost some very close friends who, for lack of a better phrase, just could not handle their shit. As such, I think it is very difficult to recommend someone undertake experiences with drug use without having at least a competent familiarity with their personality.

Hurray, got my Da Buddha vapourizer and just finished my first sesh. Unfortunate that the weed I have is utter crap, but I suppose it's good that I don't have to smoke it and have a lot of it (and it was free). I could barely stand the taste of that crap. Much better vapourizing it ^^

Yup. Im high. I was smoking at the balcony(12th floor here) and my joint fell and entered an apartment (i think it was 5 or 6 floor) and that made me realize how one little gust of wind may have had some kid falsely accused by his conservative father of smoking pot, and that made me realize how things can be chaotic and without any good explanation in our lives. But yeah if they're clever they'll realize it was someone from the building.

The papers are ussualy designed so they put themselfs out if nobody is inhaling.

I got really high this morning, and I went to the movies with people from my college to see a film in german, and let me tell you one thing :
It was just brilliant.
And I don't even speak german, but at one point there's like the father of the main characters who dies and then me and my stoned friends just start crying, but then they all come together and one of them says something like " I'm staying here " and then you can see the joy on their faces and then I cry again because it's so amazing.
I should watch movies in a foreign language more often.

It's about turkish immigrants, but it's some really indie movie, because it's a " Theater of Art & Essay " they don't serve you some Avengers or Transformers in there, only unknown movies from unknown countries :-p
Edit : http://www.imdb.fr/title/tt1630027/ Found it ! You guys should watch this if you are interested into germany, it's kinda like Little miss sunshine, but less crazy, and I really enjoyed it while high and not speaking half a word of german !

I'm not actually high, I just couldn't find a relevant place to post my dumb ass questions. So I was thinking: the bottom of the ocean is dark. No light. Every creature there is a fucking monstrosity, so ugly. But then you come into the realms of light where developed animals (specifically thinking birds and mammals) are much more aesthetic. These animals can see each other, so they can select partners for good looks. Does this mean there is some objective notion of beauty? Or do we just think mammals and birds and more aesthetic because we're developed as part of the light-dwelling kingdoms so our idea of beauty is in sync with theirs.

When u constructed this idea did u analyze that u picturing every aquatic amphibian as a monster might not be commun conception and it is just that u find aquatic amphibian not good looking. I find aquatic animals to have a sense of beauty.
What is beauty even, i think ur talking about good looks here, which alot of people mistake with beauty. Like say u see this gorgeous girl walking by. U go talk to her, u realize right there that she has no grace, doesn't have anything interesting to talk, has no passion about anything etc...
U then realize that she is not beautifull, she might be hot have good looks, good body but without grace and speech there is no beauty just sex.
I would go on but i have finals to study for, good luck in your head

I'll bite and answer seriously, though I would hope you expected what you got.
Symmetry seems to be one thing that's as close to objective as I think you're going to get. Symmetry indicates proper development which indicates good genes & nutrition. Obviously animals in the dark can't see symmetry like we do, so that may actually be a reason they look uglier to us than land animals. I do think that our familiarity with the light dwelling world is probably the main contributor, though.
