My friend has probably smoked 10g's worth of pot with me...

Alright, so there's been a lot of talk about Starcraft 2 and suggestions and stuff, but I think my input into that should stay a place closer to its conception. So basically, I've been thinking about some specific stuff that would be awesome additions, but (with the game's beauty in mind) would not totally fuck up all the balances.

Okay, when I wrote the main body below, I wasn't thinking about ordering it coherently. So I just tried to break it up as best I could.


Alright, what if there was an early game upgrade at the academy for marines to all have the ability to throw one grenade each. They would be like researching spider mines for vultures. The grenade would cause radial splash damage like a siiege tanks, but much less. It could allow mm to do some really awesome stuff, for example: let them kill that really weak lurker that burrowed in time, add some awesome micro capabilities, or be incorporated into tvp and tvt. Infantry control is already nice and complex, but we could see some awesome stuff. Also, I was thinking it could do impact as well as damage.

Which leads me into my next suggestion: impact. The most (i want to say impacting) fare-reaching of my suggestions with the most unpredictable negative side effects is an addition to the game dynamics. It's kind of a "knockback" kind of thing, but its effects would be very minimal. Like it would only push the unit half a cell or a quarter of a cell in some direction. It's damaging effect would be the power to cause some minimal stacking of enemy units in some cases, maybe just a second of a fraction of a second in delay. One way they could do it is to make the map grid much more defined, but have units move many spaces at once. The gernade thing could do a radial type of impact, which, if exploded in a pack of lings, would ever so slightly push the lings outward from the target in a circle. Maybe, like radial damage, the center would have more impact. But I digress. I think the motif behind my suggestions is not to add some new stages of tech yet, but instead see how we can give early game more tech depth.

So now for protoss, I was thinking they could add a low gas unit comparable to a zealot, but not quite. I think (and I may have been influenced by some recent movies on this) I would like it to have a like psyonic shield in one hand, and then the blade of the other hand very long and precise, like a stabbing weapon instead of slicing for zealots. Haha really though, I've always dug the hoplite style of fighting (rome total war, anyone?), and I don't think it would be very out of place in the protoss ranks. It's physical shield would be an addition to its regular force-field shield, and would have its own HP. Now the sweet part is that, it's physical shield would only block attacks that are made head on to it, ie. attacks from the back would bypass the physical shield. Oh and the guy would have a very low regular shields, maybe like 3x the health of an Archon. So this would have to mean units would be thought of as vectors, but they may already be implementing that. So anyway, the shield guy would have slower attacks than zealot, but a slightly longer reach. They wouldn't be slow either, in fact I was thinking even, what if they added momentum to ground units? These guys could do like a shield bash thing that would do impact but not damage if they ran into battle. But I'm getting ahead of myself. If they did implement moentum for ground units, it would have to be a really good algorithm with really realistic dynamics. Or else forget about it. These guys could totally revolutionize pvz play, especially in early game surrounds or whenever zealots and lings form battle lines. As far as aesthetics go, this guy would be a synergy of both light and dark templar styles. Like it would be golden and valiant like Zealots, but it could have like a ninja mask, or crazy eyes like dark templar. In fact any new protss unit should be like a combination between the light and dark sides of protoss.

Alright for zerg, my home race, I just have some crazy ideas that could fail miserably or even out the insane advantages I gave the other races. Alright so I was thinking how to incorporate more tech to hatchery stage, and I decided that adding something to hydralisks wouldn't make a big difference in build order. So what I came up with is that zerglings can now consume. That's right, the defiler spell. But what would it do with the energy? If zerg researches an upgrade at the pool, When the ling has xx energy, it can form an egg. That's right! A zergling evolution! Now the possibilities are vast with what we can do with our superling, but the product can certainly be good enough to even out the advantages of those guys. I thought that a superling could acquire a more velociraptor kind of approach and be able to like jump on things and like latch on to tanks and shit, and even tackle infantry. Then whoever shot the ling would hit the ling's target 50% of the time. Maybe a ling that could dig, or move while burrowed? Not up cliffs or underneath walls. Yea maybe not that. I don't know, I'm having trouble thinking of something that isn't too lame. What do you think?

That makes rines more useful vs P and Z but TvT would be weird. Protoss got the crappiest unit out of the 3 suggestions here. And I think your post is in a wrong thread but still nonetheless appropriate.
