Source It would be good if they can arrest them instead of killing them in a gun fight. Prosecuting them to the fullest extent of the law would be showing those terrorists that we will not fight barbarism with barbarism, and that the rule of law (one of the pinnacles of Western society) will prevail over violence. That's very true. Sadly there's many people who are out for blood... Marine Le Pen, head of the most successful far-right party in France, asked for a referendum for going back to death penalty.......... Well the problem is not really the authorities wanting to kill them rather than capturing them, the issue is that they are heavily armed and that it will be extremely hard if not impossible to stop them without killing them.
Of course. It's what happened to Mehrah by the way. But the preferable outcome would be to get them alive.

Example: SAS during the Iranian embassy siege. They shot and killed the terrorists on sight. More controversially, SAS operations against the IRA resulted in more than a few dead terrorists
Anyway, against fanatics who usually prefer to die, it's too much of a risk to try to capture them.
And also, the way they executed the cop yesterday... This kind of "take no prisoner" declaration of war usually makes police forces more enclined to shoot than to capture.

Inside a house I wonder if it would be possible for police and military to use gas in order to neutralize the terrorists without entering and killing them.
However, since it was never used by special forces, I think there I reason.

Regardless, they still need to know whether it's safe to go inside even if the shooters are out of it. Booby traps, possible hostages etc. It took hell of a long time (understandably) for the SAS to get in in Australia.
It's going to be a long day and night, i'm guessing.

Problem is if the place is rigged. Or if they have gas masked
I read that on TV government official told medias to stop talking about what's going on near Viller cotterets. Seems they don't want terrorist to know everything by watching the TV.
Smart choice.
I read in this thread that they were going again to paris or something but i read nothing in the official medias.

However, since it was never used by special forces, I think there I reason. Depends if there are innocents in that house. Gas was used in the Moscow theatre siege which resulted in the deaths of 128 hostages (directly attributed to the gas)

The "they are going to Paris" come from there and many other newspapers that claimed that according to some sources different witness had seen on the N2 / A1 roads a grey car with heavily armed man and rocket launcher. Moreover following this statement, many policemen were deployed on the main access to Paris.

Wow I've just read D. Trump's reaction, it's pretty sad. This kind of people are just thinking about how they can capitalize from a tragic event. This has always been the most disgusting thing for me (beside the attack itself), we are going to be overwhelmed by bullshit from all boards and a lot of people will buy it. With only very few trying to actually depict and analyse the situation in a clear and smart way.

350 soldiers have been deployed by the French ministry of defense, in Ile de France. (BFM TV)

And so ignorant. Didn't we just yesterday discuss about the "strict gun law" in France..

"Our sources reported that police forces have been deployed over a very wide (20km x 15km) around Crépy en Valois. The raid is in the northern part of the area, while the GIGN is in the southern part of the area.
The information that the suspects are hiding in a house is apparently false since the RAID & GIGN are now searching a large area in Aisne.

800 soldiers and hundreds / thousands of policemen have been deployed by the french authorities.

I heard that works really well to reduce the number of killing sprees. Leading the charts, congrats
