Raising people from the dead? No. I hope that GRRM won't do something so cheap.

I like Jon, but for the good of the story, he should stay dead. strictly speaking we never saw him die. he just got stabbed a bunch. Also how did the nights watch think that killing Jon was a good idea. What do they think the whole Army of wildings is going to do now that they killed the only person who had any kind of care for them John needed to die in order to get him guilt free away from the wall and his oath. Now he can either straight up resurrect him or let him spirit resurrect into a were-squirrel (probably some other animal, but I might hope). That is assuming that he died in the first place. Everything gets dark might also mean, that he passed out. Happens to people that get stabbed and loose a lot of blood. I also think it is really bad to have a "realistic" fantasy series, where main characters die and then start resurrecting people. It takes away a lot of the suspense... oh he is dead. Quick call a red priest and get him back up!

I think it's probably important to note when talking about Jon's "death" that his were-animal is called Ghost. Considering it's standard for wargs to go into your were-animal when you die, I think what's going to happen is pretty heavily signposted - though of course it could be intentionally misleading. Past that, who's to say?
And while I agree that resurrecting characters is kind of bad, at least it's only happened twice, and only once with a major character. A third time for Jon I can stomach, but past that I'll be getting a little bit unhappy.

Melisandre would not allow Jon to die. She knew what was going on and her serious warning to Jon before the whole occurence suggests strongly that Melisandre has plans for Jon and wants him to live. So no I don't think he's dead, at least not in the sense that he's also actually gone.

Killing him off would also be bad in a storytelling sense. It made sense to kill Ned at the end of the first book for example. He had a good storyline and his death was a really good end to it.

Hi, I'm highly considering buying the books when the TV show's season 2 is over. Would you recommand me all the books, especialy those after the first two? Are all of them worth reading?

Give it a shot. I myself was hesitant to get into it when it started, but as long as your expectatioins are too high or fixed in certain way, you'll have a good time. Obviously it lacks the depth and detail of the books, but the show acquits itself very well as an adaptation.

It really starts to drag at the end, but it is not nearly as bad as Wheel of Time.

Oh, no doubt you will love the first 3, but it doesn't matter.
Books 4 and 5 stray away from the first 3 books in terms of style and development and are actually pretty bad.
I sold Dance on craiglist without even finishing it because it was so bad.

Comparing ASOIaF with Eragon? Give me a break. If the witcher series is so good why is it completely ignored on all of the top fantasy reading lists?

Wow. Didn't realize people actually thought the later books were "bad". So I assume you have given up on the series right? You didn't even finish book 5. Just because they don't have as much action as the first three doesn't mean they're bad. They are still way better than 90% of the fantasy out here, if you aren't into fantasy then this point doesn't really matter I guess.

Witcher is ignored because the original is in Polish and only two volumes are available in English so far (out of 7 or 8 total iirc). They are great, though. Third best in the genre for me, behind ASOIAF and Abercrombie's First Law cycle.

I have a feeling Stannis will emerge as the ghoul like king of the Others, mostly due to the prophecy Danys saw in the second book. She saw some king with blue eyes... sounded like Stannis.

Book 4 and 5 are not that bad, people are just disappointed in three things about them: 1) they had to wait for like 5 years 2) they are much more slower and dragged than book 3, which is like a completely awesomely crazy rollercoaster where amazing events and cliffhangers happen in every single chapter in second half 3) lots of new unfamiliar political powers and characters and people are not emotionally connected to them

On May 02 2012 04:53 Smat wrote: If the witcher series is so good why is it completely ignored on all of the top fantasy reading lists? Easy - only few books are translated to English. Its Polish and for some reason nobody wants to translate them to English. There is Czech translation though so I have indeed read it and I can confirm that The Witcher series is one of the best fantasy creations of all time. It has very cool characters (Geralt just has to be the best character of all time) and has its own style - high fantasy (elves, dwarves, magic) combined with dark and gritty world (drugs, poverty, racism, mutants), dirty politics and lots of sex and violence, plus influence of Slavic stories and fairy tales. Its very unique. Not the best fantasy IMO - I still like ASoIaF more, but second place is still awesome

I believe 4 and 5 are more of a buildup towards the end of the series, taking a bit of a slower pace after the clusterfuck of awesome that was book 3. Even GRRM couldn't have kept up a pace like that throughout the 4 remaining books, the awesome would have become too bland. Especially a certain plot that has basically been in the builds the entire series, should be coming to fruitation in 6 and 7. I don't think 4 and 5 were bad though. I might only have found them a bit boring if I wasn't already invested into the series.
