"Plexa" won the donation war for WW:HD filename! TL's new donation incentive is "R1CH" for Magus's name in Chrono Trigger.

The SoM runners are really harping on the fact that at any time during their run, things could go horribly wrong because everything is RNG, and that this could happen quite frequently. I'm fearing that SoM becomes FE:SS 2.0

Those explanations are really cool. They make a genre which i usually dislike for speedruns quite enjoyable.

They are talking about how RNG can slow the run, not kill it. You don't really need to worry about it, it's not the same issue.

Bad luck in SoM is only likely to lose a bit of time, and only a few places is dying a threat.

I missed the whole conversation earlier as far as whether or not DK64 was still being played. It's still in the schedule as coming up in a few games... is it still on? Thanks in advance

I was talking specifically about the RNG abuse run, since you lose it if you make a cursor mistake. But maybe you can reset it fairly easy, depending on how it works.

The RNG is snapshotted at the start of each chapter. So you'd only have to reset the chapter, not the whole run. ...and because the RNG is controlled, chapters are a lot faster.

RNG is based on a per turn basis, as in no matter what everythigns gonna turn out the same, you can easily abuse better stats, make enemies do more stupid things by sitting and waiting a turn out. I dont guess save states are allowed, or all that great in a speed run of the game unless you see the rng way ahead of time

DK64 is still on. The DK run that had to be altered was DKC2 (originally scheduled as a race with a donation incentive for additional levels), but one of the players was unable to make it. DKC2 also still scheduled to run, but no longer as a race.

On the get rich quick thing. Basically he performed a series of actions to corrupt one of the items in his inventory, which then sold for a ton of money. (There are quite a few glitchy things in SoM, heh)

Yes and no. It's true that if you repeat the same actions, you get the same results, but there are subtleties.

You can 'burn' an RN by messing with the cursor arrow while moving:
If you set a path that ends on a tile the character can reach, but uses an impossible route, the game will re-calculate a feasible route. If there are more than one feasible routes, it'll spend an RN picking which one to display.

The RNG manip runs use small subtle gestures to trigger these RN burns and handpick the best. The actual turn number itself has nothing to do with the RNG.

Yeah, basically you move one down and one left (you don't confirm the move), then the move arrow can either start left and go down, or start down and go left, to "choose" the one the game will burn a rng number, so you ca nsave, burn a lot of numbers and see if the route start left or start down, each one means a different number, and if you got a sequence of "start left" you know that the rng is producing a sequence of low numbers, so you reload and level up and you know you'll get a good level up.

Bleh I had a good article, I think on sereneforest, that explained everything with pictures, but can't find it TT
