No, this isn't advertising/spam, but yes, I do love Dr Pepper.
I recently discovered (mere days ago) the deliciousness of FRENCH Dr Pepper, which is delicious.
To my surprise, there is quite a significant difference in Dr Pepper flavours around the world.
English Dr Pepper and Japanese Dr Pepper taste pretty much the same. American Dr Pepper is not very nice in comparison, although I can't remember specifically how it is worse, since I only had it twice and that was 6 months ago (US Dr Pepper with HFCS)
But recently a local shop imported some French Dr Pepper instead of English, and it's much sweeter and smoother and fruitier than English/Japanese, despite having less sugar.
People say it's hard to explain what Dr Pepper tastes like, but it's even harder when you realise not all Dr Pepper is created equal.
For those of you who haven't tried it, or who have tried US Dr Pepper, try some other Dr Pepper, it's delicious.
Anyone else tried different Dr Peppers?

I enjoy Coca Cola more myself.
|
a lot of drinks are actually tweaked to local/regional tastes. companies do do research into that.
|
As far as I know I've only had U.S. Dr Pepper, though even so I have found sometimes it seems a lot better than others. It is a mysterious creation.

If you like Dr. Pepper, you should try Disaronno & Ginger Ale/Beer.
|
Coca Cola is also pretty different between countries here in Europe, for example i find portuguese coca cola way better than spanish cola because ours is way less sugary.
Also never had a Dr Pepper in my life, here we only have Cola and Pepsi
|
I was once at a Burger King here in the states and on their fountain drink machine they had little bios of all the sodas, and what they paired well with, as if Burger King were a fine wine restaurant.
The Dr. Pepper one read really strange to me, it spoke of notes of fruit. I consider myself a fairly avid soda drinker and I had never thought anything of Dr. Pepper other than an alternative cola, fruit never came into the picture.
Fast forward a year when I'm in England and I buy a Dr. Pepper. Now this English one, its got those fruit notes, its like an entirely different drink! I really thought it was because of the natural sugar, somehow the artificial sugar was overtaking the fruit flavor in the American version. But about 6 months later they came out with "classic" Dr. Pepper in America with natural sugar, but that did little to change the taste.
I really miss that English Dr. Pepper.
|
I can't speak for Dr. Pepper (which I love btw, but can only buy in a select few countries) but like someone above said, Coca-Cola tastes different in every country. In Poland it's pretty sweet, so I prefer to buy Pepsi here, but in France or Belgium I prefer Cola-Cola over Pepsi.
I heard it's mostly due to regional water taste, but it could also be due to % of sugar and other things.
|
Coke and Dr Pepper best sodas. :3
|
Dr. Pepper. You make the world taste better
I once combined Crown Royal and Dad's Root Beer. The result tasted a lot like Dr. Pepper. Needless to say, I drank way too much of it.

stoli with dr pepper is my go to chill drink

Probably 2 years ago they release like an anniversary addition of dr. pepper that had real sugar. It was soooo ridiculously good tasting, and its a shame they don't do it anymore
At MLG they were handing out back-packs full of dr. pepper, and there was no water around. That's kind of kept me from drinking it for the past year or so.
|
Oblig.
Doctor Who?
I don't think you can find a single can of this in Spain. Unless it's in the bag of some american tourist xD
|
I don' t like that much soft drinks. Dr pepper i tried once was pretty bad tbh. I prefer orange juice or other fruit juices or alcool. And sparkly water is cool too.
EDIT: also its best if the fruit juices are without sugar in them.

Wait what? Different regions get different Dr Pepper??? Does any other pop do this?

I too love Dr. Pepper )))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))
I have tasted English, American and Japanese Dr. Pepper and found them all to taste the same :D

i try to avoid sodas as much as possible but dr pepper so good always tempting enough to divulge :x

I found the Coke, Fanta and Sprite I drank in South Africa to be very different from the same brands here. Can't speak for Dr. Pepper, because I never drank it until I came to Canada. Still... I fucking love Dr. Pepper!

Oh god, Dublin Dr. Pepper is so good. It makes me want to move back to texas just to be closer.

Afaik dr. Pepper is a franchise like coca cola or pepsi, so every (most) regions or countries have their local breweries doing their own coke/pepsi/dr.pepper. The essence comes from the franchise but sweetening and other stuff may vary.
I personally find imported (american) dr pepper much better than my local.

I rarely drink soft drinks/sodas/whateveryouwantotcall them, but when I do, it's Sprite.

Same. I never even tried Dr Pepper, but then again I drink sodas like twice a year, tops.

They ship out the concentrate, but local water is added and maybe also other things as he said. Taste of Coke is definitely different according to some friends.

For me, no drink complements pizza better than Dr.Pepper. I can't really stand it by itself or with any other food. It's cool to hear that it tastes different in Europe. I've only had it in the US and Korea, and they taste the same.

Pretty much everyone I know IRL agrees that it tastes mainly like cherry. Nothing difficult about that. Personally though I think there's also a hint of bitter almond.
Anyway, DrPepper is easily my favourite soda.
|
Virgil's Dr. Better > Dr. Pepper I'm afraid. Virgil's root beer is my personal favorite, though. I'd be interested in trying a French Dr. Pepper though, since it seems like foreign sodas are always better than American ones ~_~

I went 16 years of hating Dr. Pepper. Then I went to an MLG and drank like 10 a day. Now I love it and will drink it whenever I see it.
|
Dr. Pepper is a pretty good drink, my third favourite. But my number one will always be Soda Mousse, or Cream Soda . And coming in second is Barq's root beer. YUM.
Of course you want to drink in moderation. To me it replaces the beer and wine everyone else drinks. I get to drink my amazingly delicious soft drink, while everyone else has their foul alcoholic beverages . I don't know what it is that people enjoy in it. Cream Soda tastes so much better than alcohol, and I don't lose brain cells drinking it!
|
fountain drink dr. pepper is pretty good, the canned stuff not so much.
and sugar is obviously superior to HFCS in general, but it's easier to find coke/pepsi with sugar than dr. pepper.
|
Dr.Pepper & crown ftw! Dr.Pepper is my go to soft drink lol.
|
Dr.Pepper soooooo good. I haven't tried other Dr.Peppers from the one I buy in Canada, though I suppose I'll make a mental note of it for the future to try it in other places when I visit them.
|
i honestly hate pop, really don't like carbonated beverages. Homemade fresh juice all the way
|
Regular soda makes my mouth/body feel terrible. I am addicted to diet coke however. I try to quit, but it always wins in the end.
I had a Dr. Pepper kick back when they sponsored MLG. But now I try to avoid soda.

I love Root beer (Henry Weinhards) but it ravages my teeth, so I have it only on occasion ^_^
|
Dr. Pepper made with real cane sugar is the best. The normal isn't bad, but once you taste the cane sugar version, Dublin Dr. Pepper, you'll never go back.
|
I love the Dr. Pepper here in America. It's so good. But I have never had any Dr. Pepper from any other country so I might be blown away!
|
I can't STAND Dr. Pepper. I don't know why, I just find it disgusting.
It's interesting to here about the different tastes though, i wonder if other sodas do this.
|
Dr Pepper is great. I pretty much only drink diet sodas for the last couple years and I have lost 50 pounds (although I did a little more than just that ). The real thing is much better though . Occasionally I will have some real PEPSI and mmmmmm it's so good.

Canada Dry ginger ale > Dr. Pepper
There I said it. Let the flaming commence.

"Yes, now you see why I don't like telling."

best drink ever

Used to drink this shit like water. Gave up all soda so my mistress and I haven't had time alone in the dungeon for quite a while. Oh how I miss it.

Dr Pepper is fantastic ! <3
Haven't tried any other flavors than the one sold here tho, should be interesting, will make it a holiday objective >.>

I don't know if you can have a whole thread dedicated to Dr.Pepper, but I certainly support it.
I will support it by drinking this Dr.Pepper as I hit "Post".

DP is awesome. Can you get French DP in the US?

Is DP in Canada the same as DP in the US?

I work at Burger King (which sells coke products) and we got these fancy soda dispensers that have a touch screen and all this garbage I really hate. Anyway, Its got all the flavors of coke like vanilla, cherry, lime, peach... Dr Pepper has cherry and Cherry-vanilla. I love that Cherry-vanilla Dr. Pepper.
|
I love Dr. Pepper, but my soda of choice is now Jones Cream Soda.
|
All you can drink Dr. Pepper at MLG events is the best. I don't even drink that much of it at events but my friends always fiend over it.
|
Somewhat rarely (due to high doses of HFCS) I will have a large glass of Dr. Pepper with a tbs of Grenadine syrup...omg is it good.
|
I can't explain it but Dr. Pepper always has this taste like aluminum can, even out of a bottle. I don't know why, but that ruins it for me.
|

anything distributed internationally generally tastes different from place to place.
For example, all the sodas in mexico generally taste "dirtier" due to their poorer water.
I have also found that pepsi > coke in canada but coke > pepsi in united states
and yea european soda tends to be better for whatever reason
|
what an awesome thread.
DrPepper is my favorite.
one of the reasons why soft drinks have different tastes around the world is also due to different water supplies. Dunno if anyone recalls the poisonous Pepsi in India, I think it was in the same vein as the Bopal incident.
I used to work with a dude who was some sort of Thai or something and he was a freakin soda addict. He said that whenever he went back to his country he'd drink water for 6 weeks cause mainstream soda brands tasted shit back there.
|
Dr.Pepper used to be my go to when I used to go see movies really baked. Dr.pepper and next level salty popcorn whoa. try it out
|
I tried dr pepper once expecting it to be just another cola... I did not have a good time.
|
Definitely a difference between u.s. coca cola and mexican coca cola. Mexican sodas are way better. I have never had a french DrPepper but damn i want to knowing it is better than u.s. DrPepper which I have fallen in and out of favour.

I saw Dr. Pepper chewing gum the other day. Reminded me of this thread. Does anyone have any learned insight on which region makes the best sodapop?

Cant beat coke, and tbh i think pibb is better than pepper. Vess trumps all.

|
Dr. Pepper and cherry/vanilla vodka is delicious, about the only vodka beverage I'll drink.
|
After watching some MLG tournament with dr. pepper ads all over the place 2-3 years ago, i wanted to try it. Dr Pepper is not known in my city at all and there are only few places you can find it. I tried it once but i regret it, it smelled like an antibiotic i took when i was little.
|
Dr. Pepper is potentially the second greatest soda on the planet.
As for regional taste variances, I can say that American Dr. Pepper and British Dr. Pepper don't vary as much as those of continental Europe, such as German or Czech Dr. Pepper which are definitely somewhat different.
The truly best combination though is drinking Dr. Pepper together with Irn-Bru to create a beverage that will leave you Progaming for days.

wat.
How did French Dr Pepper even get imported by your shop? o_o Didn't even know it existed. I've never ever seen Dr Pepper in France in any shop/supermarket/fastfoot/bar/whatever, I genuinely thought it only existed abroad lol.
I dont even know what it tastes, is there something that's actually sold in France that is like it?

9 year old bot necro bump. Dr. Pepper is still ass though.

They sell quite a few UK made sodas at stores here.Around 10 years ago they started using artificial sweeteners instead of cane sugar.I did buy the odd UK drink until then, usually Dr Pepper, Cherry coke and D&B which were all perfectly good but after the sweeteners were added I just can't anymore, and can't see how anyone can drink it personally.Even fentimans uses sweeteners now apparently, due to the sugar tax.
They do sell it by the case at the CostCo here but it's the high-fructose corn syrup American stuff, which I don't drink personally.I just stick to the locally made drinks now, which mostly still use cane sugar.

I've had great success in past months with a Dr pepper based bbq sauce, Especially when mixed with coffees and peanut butter. Helps carry a lot of the more active spices and to keep it stuck to the meat.

I have driven about one hour and a half to get some Dr Pepper in Switzerland. Think it was just the american version though, the idea that I could have gotten to France and gotten something better is annoying me now.
