Starship Troopers based on Starcraft?

I just rewatched Starship Troopers recently, and it seems to be a total rip-off of starcraft. Did Blizzard get royalties? Was it meant to be a Starcraft movie? If there is a Starcraft movie Verhoevan who made Starship Troopers would be the perfect director. Maybe they will make a movie in conjunction with SC2, that would be cool.

..Anyone played warhammer 40k? That (together with alien)are both starcraft and starship troopers has got their inspiration (the black coats in SST is really wh40k influenced imo..). Btw the first edition of wh40k came out around the same time as alien 2 (1983).

Starship Troopers was a book written in 1958 by Robert Heinlein. Movie very different.

EDIT: typo (I even made it again in the edit..)

SST a rip-off of SC? Hardly. As already pointed out, it's the other way around. I'm surprised how SF illiterate people are here. Heinlein, people, Heinlein. One of the truly great science fiction grandmasters.

Hahahaha looks like someone missed the point with SST entirely.
The movie draws several paralells with Nazi germany and the black coats are supposed to be the gestapo uniforms.

FFS, it's giant bugs vs human infantry...

the concept is so OBVIOUS that it can't possibly be considered a ripoff.

SST came out before SC. But the 2nd or so T mission where you have to hold out for 30 mins or so vs streaming zergling 'hordes' made me chuckle when I first played it, as it felt exactly like the SST base scenes.

Of course if you play it now, you totally slaughter the poor ai.

lol, ya starship troopers copied starcraft, they are psychic and made a movie a couple years before starcraft came out, based on starcraft because they knew starcraft was going to be a big hit and they could get a couple of pre-pubescent kids who actually believe that it was based on starcraft to become fans...

Next thing youre gonna tell me is that the Wachowski Bros are philosophers... oh wait

The movie was terrible, and frankly would've had Heinlein rolling in his grave if he hadn't um... yeah, gone psycho in the 60's. You read Starship Troopers and its all hardline conservative (no women in the MI), corporal punishment, death penalty justified, etc., etc. Then you read The Cat Who Walked Through Walls and its basically:

"Hey you wanna fuck?"
"Sure!"
"Let's go steal stuff."

Same with A Stranger in a Strange Land. Guy from another planet learns about humanity by having sex with it... a lot.

Lol! Anything rip off from SC? Hahaha. What a joke. SC is a ripoff of anything before it's time. Take anything, for example Babylon 5, and compare it to SC. Also b5 is a ripoff of course, there are hardly new ideas anymore, hasn't been for long time. There is no shame in copying, but don't be hypocrite.
As a movie, SST was a good comedy. You can ruin any movie if you want it magically to be a tribute to the book. Usually they aren't. Don't read books.

Blizzard always uses film influences when they make their games.

For Starcraft, their main influence was Starship Troopers, which is why SC is so similar to it. From the news flash cinematics to the concept of an "overmind" that can be pacified by those psychic scientists (ghosts). Remember that one part where the "dead stukov" was ejected from the ship in that little coffin pod? Yea, that was taken from Starship Troopers as well.

Regarding the Wachowski brothers....I doubt if few people actually think they were the first people to toy around with the idea of the matrix (a false reality). How old is that idea anyway?

Actually you're all fucking stupid, the Black Coats were made to represent the SS Death's Head Division, NOT the Gestapo.

Gestapo wore brown uniforms, learn your fucking history.

The news reports were kinda funny in SST. Best part of the movie was the first news report

But yah, the movie was pretty bad.

I liked the propaganda in the SST film. Very amusing. But also realise that the book had very little in common with the film.

The Film is a quite good evening snack, and the book is a good read.
Just because you can now store where everyone was and is, what they like, what they fear who they talk to and who they love. It does not mean we should so spy upon our fellow man in a dystopia far worse then 1984

That idea is over 200 years old. Some philospher named Descarte thought of some shit like, what would happen if our reality was just projected from an evil demon? same exact shit from the matrix, except matrix has comptuers instead.

Meanander, almost all of Heinlein's writing differs greatly from SST. I was very surprised, because it was the first book of his I read... the next two were as though written by a different person.

Starship Troopers is a military science fiction novel by Robert A. Heinlein, first published (in abridged form) as a serial in The Magazine of Fantasy & Science Fiction (October, November 1959, as "Starship Soldier") and published hardcover in December, 1959.
