sounds like the PETA deciders just watched some minutes of an episode, perhaps only a powerpoint presentation of how pokemons are treated badly in the series...
they are stuffed into balls like hamsters (which is really a bad thing), pulled out to fight (like cocks or attack dogs), and seem to have no feelings (no voice = no feelings, as PETA probably sees it).
so i can see how PETA came to this decision.
what i dont understand is, that they decide such things without proper information.
everyone who has seen more than just some minutes of pokemon knows that pokemons actually _have_ feelings, that ash spends all of his time to help pokemons, that his only goal is to make them happy and that every pokemon he has in his bag wanted to come with him.
well perhaps PETA is against all forms of pets, against domestication of animals per se.
that could explain a lot.
but i have a much easier explanation: they are psychos, pure psychos...

Does PETA even have any supporters since in the past decade all they've done is make ridiculous accusations such as these? Even their supporters have to shake their head at their shenanigans.
I'm pretty sure the leading members of PETA don't even remember their goal of fighting for animal rights, and just want anything involving animals in any scenario besides living in nature (or even there I imagine) to be hated. I'm fairly certain PETA these days is composed of just a couple of people that know how to program shitty flash games and have enough disposable income to pay a few girls to get naked once in a while.

I just realized that Pokemon BW (and the expansions) touch on the issue of Pokemon "enslavement", so its not like Game Freak is blind to the issue. At least they bothered to put the whole idea in the plot and made it fairly decent, not necessarily condemning or condoning. Also, PETA is just annoying now as I said before, and need to realize they are losing their relevance if they are forced to criticize a video game just to gain attention.

The game is pretty funny. There's a mudkips who asks if you liek mudkipz and a slowpoke that tells you team plasma is here to liberate pokemon. I don't think people hate pets or animals or get desensitized to them because of pokemon though.

Well I for one think it's about time someone stood up to the Pokemon enslavers. Let them go freeeee!
While we're at it, we should really take a hard look at the wanton slaughter of horses in fantasy novels. You too can prevent the mistreatment of fictional animals.
Are they just trying to gear their message down to kids or something?

Don't forget about the Diablo series, where 1/3 of all enemies are "animals"! Next thing, people are going to call Mario a mass murderer.
