pretty weak, manifesto
i love how convenient people find it to attack my presentation of this guy doing nothing wrong (which he didn't). it's an easy argument. yeah he probably should have known better, maybe he did, maybe he didn't. from rek's portrayal of the guy he really didn't seem like he knew what the fuck he was doing. didn't seem like a shark hustling the place, did he?
if you read anything in this post, read this: i'm not arguing about what the koreans do in their own illegal poker rooms, i'm saying that rekrul treating a fellow canadian, one around his age, and one who was obviously terrified, like that is sad/disturbing/sick

huh we need incontrol to start a debate with you derek.
Nnobody wants a moral debate here. Remember that it is a starcraft forum/poker thread. Enjoy the post or dont read. Simple.
Go to the church. Its a better place to you elaborate your ideas.

a FOREIGNER was in an ILLEGAL POKER ROOM and you say he didn't do anything wrong?
Any stupid duchebag who walks into a gambling den without knowing th rules or language deserves what he gets. Rekrul didn't treat this guy badly at all. Why should Rekrul go out of his way and damage his own reputation to defend this moron? What obligation does he have? Because he is white? Fuck that. Here is how that plays out:
"This guy a friend?" Rekrul - "Yeah" "Dont come here any more. Leave your money"
White people in asia come in two flavours: those who attampt to learn about the new culture they have arrived in, and those who think their white skin is a shield that protects them and their ignorance. This guy was certainly the latter.

That doesnt mean rekrul has to encourage them to kill the poor guy.

I understand both sides, but that other guy shouldn't really be there if he acts that way in that dangerous enviroment. In a public casino, it is probably acceptable behavior, but not in underground casino rings. Rekrul's post more often than not is pretty funny in its own way and some might missed the humor.
As for the Canadian gambler, he would live longer by talking less.

Nice Mani,
Way to jump on our guest just because he disagrees with the almighty Rekrul. We should systematically ban everyone with a diverging opinion from these forums. I bet that'd make the discussion a whole lot more fun!
And I'm sure our friend has a better understanding of how things work in 'illegal korean gambling dens' after his little adventure. Everyone is naive at some point in their lives - but we don't learn anything if we aren't willing to throw ourselves into the fire from time to time. The gamblers at the table are justified in their anger, just as our pal is justified in shitting his pants and wanting to get the hell out after things tensed up. Remember what Rek said about the atmosphere changing - I'd want to get the hell out too.
Oh, and so would you.
edit: And they probably let him buy in low because they thought he was an easy kill - serves them right.

derek you are a moron
if you honestly would have said 'dont hurt that guy he is my friend' to a bunch of korean gangsters, you deserve a cameo on captain planet.
get serious.
|
we are getting on derek because hes a moron - not because he disagrees with rekrul
anyone who can identify with a kid playing underrolled in an illegal casino that he had no business playing in with a bunch of korean gangsters( and then leaving after he doubled up twice in ten minutes) does not deserve to have any credibilty taken with his posts.

SaNteria, I am sorry I didn't know derek was your guest to these internet forums.
I am not jumping on him because he disagreed with rekrul. If you read carefully, rekrul did not even present an opinion, not a narrative. I jumped on him because derek presented himself as a pompos ass, calling Rekrul sick and disgusting for not helping a retarded friend.
I am more than willing to be naive and throw myself into the fire now and then... more than you could know. However, I pick my spots, and a poker game full of gangsters speaking another language is not one of them. I am amazed how anybody can be sympathetic with this foreigner.
btw, Is he banned? No. I wouldn't ban anyone for that post. Rekrul, on the other hand, I cannot speak for.

Actually, another reason I didn't respect him is because he did this exact same thing a long time ago. Live poker should be about fun not trying to win 300$ and then cashout happy as can be because you can afford a hooker, when in reality that was only one bet.
For the retards "I saved a life today" is sarcasm.
For derek, you need to realize that part of korean body language and humor is to act like they are going to take action and then do nothing. Like a pump fake in basketball. Oftentimes if you say something insulting and witty to a friend he'll act like he's going to hit you but never will they actually hit you. Or say a bunch of friends are drinking and someone says something embarassing about one of the people...that one person might expressively mutter some shit and stand up as if he's going to leave...they might even go as far as putting on his jacket. But always they will sit back down take it off with a laugh...as it all is just an expressive joke.
Lets be clear...when they stood up that is exactly what I thought they were doing. Just acting like that to be funny after the kid pissed them off. It's not like they actually care about the money he won....it's just he comes into their place, breaks their rules, and leaves in a bad manner fashion. They do have a right to be angry but no right to actually harm or rob him. I didn't think they were gunna go so I said "please do so" in korean just as something cute to say...not necessarily a joke. Once they took off running my half-drunken self felt bad. I mean really bad....my heart sunk, but there was nothing I could do.
And the kid was pretty oblivious I think. He had no nunchi <-- 눈치없어~ (intuition)

No one questions the guy is a dumbass but I don't understand some of these criticisms beyond him being incredibly stupid and having really bad poker manners. What he did was universally wrong, wherever you play poker. Where do you get him using his white skin as a shield that protects him? If some Korean came to an illegal poker room here in America. And here, I think sometimes money games with your friends in private is illegal, I don't know about Korea, but I can see someone being dumb about what kind of game they think they are getting in to. So the Korean guy does the same thing as the Canadian one, and lets say he gets badly beaten/killed and robbed. I doubt you'd be saying he deserved it. I HIGHLY doubt you'd be saying he was some arrogant Korean, certainly trying to use his skin to protect him.

Well asians in american don't walk around like they're the shit.
Most white people in Korea do though.
That's going to be my next article. WHITE PEOPLE IN KOREA.

Serv, I only mentioned about the white skin because so often I see caucasians in asia doing rediculous and stupid things, and then falling back on the excuse that "Im white" or "I dont speak the language".
It is a mental attitude that many white people use in asia. Soem use it to get girls, some use it for protection from bill collectors, some use it to get cheap train tickets, and some use it to escape poker rooms. I wouldnt say the same thing about a korea in NA because there isnt that same attitude.
Ask rekrul about being white in asia and the way stupid white people act.

my friends at college play a $20 poker game. it was the second hand one after noon and lets call the main character of the story tool 1. basically he gets dealt a made hand and 6 people end up going all in on the second hand and he wins with quads. now tool 1 collects all the chips and says 'well i have to get to studying' gets up and leaves. i mean it was only $20 but everyone was pretty pissed. someone pissed on his door that night
anyways the point is you'd have to be a moron to realize doubling up and then leaving after 10 hands is not bad edicate...espcially if he had indeed played live at casinos before. im not saying that he deserved to get beat up or anything but you have to wonder about him

rekrul knows how to explain himself
the rest of you 'defending' him: gj wasting all of this forum space with your irrelevant shit
there's no getting around that his post is thick with an air of superiority and contempt, but since he put things into perspective, maybe what he did wasn't so bad. obviously the rest of you didn't have the same perspective, i certainly wasn't "over my head." instead of clutching at straws to try and find holes in my post, you guys could have just waited until he stepped in and defended himself so you could go back to sucking his dick
see, this wasn't a complete waste of time. i feel better now.

Note the player who raised him is the utmost fishiest guy in the game and he had 10k infront of him (he was already down 10k at that point...10k anger-rebuy for him).
Finally, with a look of disgust the kid calls and flips over Ace-King. I look at the guy next to me, a korean gangster, and we both give eachother looks that say "what the fuck was that fucking moron thinking about, of course he shoud call...600$, el oh el." Needless to say the fish who raised him all-in had A6 off suit and AK took the pot down. The kid makes a circle with his lips and blows out air in a huge sigh of relief, and rakes in the pot with his hands shaking like hell. One guy starts calling the guy with A6 a "byungshin" (fucking retard) and they both have a good laugh over the small pot he just lost.
Sounds like a strategy to me. Whether or not it worked on you and your 'gangster' friends is regardless, perhaps he did that on purpose because it makes other poker players in general question his hand to themselves. Regardless of how much of a faggot this kid may be... he may have had some logic in being as gay as you expressed him to be.
