I just carry my Nexus 7 in my backpack. The size is perfect for reading books and thats what I use it for, most of the time.

New leak(s):

A new leak, that photo above of a product info tag, suggests that there are actually quite a few extras baked in this time around. According to the pic, there's a quad-core 1.5GHz CPU with the still-unannounced Android 4.3 as the OS. The 7-inch screen size remains, though it's unclear if there's a resolution bump to accompany it. Also on board are a pair of cameras: 1.2MP up front and 5MP around back. The two more unexpected tidbits are the addition of Slim Port support for playing 1080p video on your TV, as well as wireless charging, because the less cables you need, the happier you're bound to be. We're sure all will be revealed next week at Google's big event.

Sigh... never a digitizer. :/ An active digitizer would nail it out of the park, even at a higher price.

At least it'll (hopefully) drive down the price of the Note 8.

This. I went ahead and bought a Nook HD plus for the 9 inches. Perfect size for reading books and super light. (And super cheap since they're doing a sale right now)

That's because B&N is deep in the red with their tablet division.

A passive digitizer is an ordinary touch screen. An active one requires a stylus or special pen to use.

Passive digitizers are just touch screens. Active digitizers allow pen support, like the Surface Pro, Galaxy Note 2 and 8. The difference between a capacitive pen (the $20 things they sell) and an active pen is enormous. Basically never have to carry around a notebook again, and go 100% to e-books where you can pin notes on them easily.

We've seen a few different leaks that put the release date of the new Nexus 7 on the last day of July. But, a new leaked ad from Best Buy is putting the release date on July 30th, which would be a week from Tuesday. One day may not make a huge difference, but given the excitement around this tablet, one day could make some people very happy.

According to an anonymous tipster, the image we have is a Best Buy flyer that is scheduled to run on July 28th (next Sunday), and the flyer clearly says "available Tuesday", which would be July 30th. The ad also confirms that the 16GB model of the tablet will cost $229, and confirms the display resolution at 1920x1200.

The dual cameras (1.2MP + 5MP) are clearly visible, along with a notification LED, the "4:30" time which points to, naturally, Android 4.3, the oddly perpendicular for a 7" tablet word "nexus" on the back, stereo speakers mounted on the back (sorry, HTC One fans), and the manufacturer, which once again happens to be ASUS (sorry, Sony fans). There isn't much else to say that hasn't been said before.

The 16GB Wi-Fi variant of the new SlimPort-enabled 1.5GHz quad-core Nexus 7 with a 1920x1200 display is expected to retail for $229 while the 32GB one will sell for $269. There's no word yet on the LTE version, though based on the rumblings among tipsters, one should be coming at some point.

I'm not at all knowledgable when it comes to tablets, but I was planning on getting a Nexus 10 soon. Does the news of this new tablet mean I should wait? Or is this just going to be a new 7"? Or does the new 7" imply a new 10" soon?

I'm pretty salty about my nexus 7, it had the classic upper left screen crack and they claimed it to customer induce damage even when it's a common problem.

Hope the new nexus 7 is less prone to defects and breaking and asus isn't a bitch about it like they were for this iteration. Google doesn't even support their damn device.

Edit: admittedly, i loved the two months the thing worked, easily worth 200$ for two months of use. If i find a good warranty service(nearly all didn't cover the ubiquitous screencracks), I'll probably get one. The size and googleness makes it perfect for youtube and mail

Hm. Benchmarks of it here: http://www.androidpolice.com/2013/07/23/new-nexus-7-codename-razor-fully-detailed-and-benchmarked-2gb-of-ram-snapdragon-s4-pro-and-1920x1200-screen/

It's basically an N4 with a nicer screen. TBH, it makes me want to get a Note 8 more. I was expecting it to leave the Note 8 in the dust but really they're fairly close, except in GPU and screen. Still, Note 8 becomes way more usable with the multitasking and pen. Now I just have to wait for a back to school sale.

Looks like we have a winner. Definitely the best bang for buck tablet again and as of now best one hand holding tablet.
