Maybe because I'd like to be proud to be a human being, we all share one planet with many creatures(that we inhumanely slaughter for food or use too make clothes). Some imaginary lines drawn on the maps that divide Canada, and Mexico from us. A few drops of water between here and Japan, China, and Russia.(think for a moment how big the Universe is, we are simply a speck of dust alive for a blink of time, then think for a moment how ridiculously small United States is)
Patriotism is really a silly concept and please call me unpatriotic, I don't think I care.

Federal minimum wage is $7.25/hour. The highest minimum wage is in Washington state at $9.04/hour. The lowest is Georgia/Wyoming at $5.15/hour or $2.13/hour for employees that receive tips. Even at Washington's minimum wage, you would be very hard-pressed to live off of 40 hours/week in any part of the country.

It's other countries listening in and being mildly irritated that we're supposedly out in the dark because we didn't get a divinely inspired constitution. I don't care if foreigners do it. They should be patriotic about their own countries. However, there are too many American (who are predominantly democrats and liberals) that go out their way to crap on American exceptionalism or on America in general. It really is disgusting. Well even for Americans, I think there's a difference between being loud, proud, and patriotic and American Exceptionalism. "Last great hope" and that is much more than being loud and proud. It sounds like US is Gondor holding off the hordes of Sauron. That we're one step away from all of Middle Earth being razed to ground, all the way up to the Shire. I guess it made sense in the Stalin/Kruschev days. But it sounds a little funny now.

There you go Mitt. That's how you handle religion. Have fun with it.

I should tell my friends who grumble about making 12$ an hour how lucky they are then, not bad pay for highschool students doing part time work when there are people in america making less then half as much.

$9.04 x 2080 = 18.8k a year. If you can't live on that, you're simply living beyond your means...

As if that shitty hourly wage wasn't enough, we have one of the worst unemployment rates in the country thats pretty much stayed constant for the last 3/4 years. Even if I was fortunate to find a job, how the fuck am I supposed to live off that? Oh right, 2nd job, yep.

I made $7.00/hour in high school, and that was high. The only reason I made that much is because I worked for McDonald's and it was still below the minimum wage set in my state (Minnesota, $7.25/hour) because there are loopholes in minimum wage rates all over the place (minimum wage is $5.25/hour for small businesses).

I'm sorry, but what tax increase did Obama propose on small business?

He didn't. Republicans have been blatantly lying for the entire convention.

Not true. Some places rent is pretty low.
2 bdrm house in the Catskills: http://catskills.craigslist.org/apa/3240533529.html
Rent is $400/mo get a roommate and that's just $200/mo for each of you. $9/hr wouldn't be so bad with rent that low.

Energy independence? Does that mean no more oil from Canada? I guess we probably don't count because so many American companies operate up here.

Depends on what the rent is (it's too damn high!), but your calculation should really just be rent+groceries+transport(bus/transit/bike, not car). i gave myself a pretty decent apartment and entertainment expenses(video games, movies etc) and ended up at 20, 400$. What is your budget, such that you can't live off 20,000 a year?

That depends. If you are single, it should be quite easy to live off 18k a year. I lived off 20k a year rather easily while going to school ($10/hr abouts). Got a roommate, split the rent, utilities and such.. Had plenty of money left over for other things.

This is where Romney falters. Fuck this is where both candidates falter. When they talk about their 'plans' and make claims about each others plans.
The debates will be interesting.

Don't forget bills.
Obamacare.
Such bullshit. Just don't even go there.
Off topic: I swear to God if I hear even the slightest allusion to Socialism from anyone at this convention I might punt a small child. It's so incredibly aggrivating when people spew uneducated BS like that.
