500 a month isnt much. You get unlucky and your car breaks down, gl with that. Not to mention the cost of gasoline/heat.

Speech was better than expected, but still not fantastic. I really don't see how he could stand up to Obama in a debate with his speech skills as they are now.

Gas depends on where you live. My home now is run on all electric. If you are in an apartment you shouldn't be paying for garbage anyway. Phone? I forgot that everyone has to have an iPhone now. $80 awesome. Car? Bike, Bus, Walk. Yay for no Car payment or Insurance!
You didn't read my post close enough because I was extremely generous in my cost of health insurance anyway.

it's not "a lot", but it's livable. I'm sorry, but if you're an uneducated physical laborer in the US, you can have decent housing, cable, internet, air conditioning, all the basic creature comforts, without too much stress on you. I don't think that makes us terrible. Now, if you start having kids when you can't afford it, yes, you might be in a tight spot. But that's something you have control over.

Some places rent is pretty low. 2 bdrm house in the Catskills: http://catskills.craigslist.org/apa/3240533529.htmlRent is $400/mo get a roommate and that's just $200/mo for each of you. $9/hr wouldn't be so bad with rent that low. Look again, that poster is an obvious scammer and every single other unique listing is substantially higher.
OK, buy this house for $95K - that's only $339/mo on a 30yr mortgage!

Electric and no car are only if you live in modernized, urban areas, which is a very generous assumption. You still didn't throw in health insurance.

And it is no wonder why you see so many younger people in Credit Card debt. $500 a month to cover things that aren't residence related should be plenty for any single person.
Car breaks down? Hi, I am a savings account. You can put your excess money into me for future use. -- Just because you have $500 to spend doesn't mean you have to.

Lets not forget that those calculations are 1) hardly trustworthy because they under or overprice several things and leave out certain costs and 2) are going off the highest minimum wage in the country. The majority of the country has a minimum wage in the $7-$8/hour range or lower.

Read my initial post... '. Take taxes, and if you have an insurance option -- safe side $1000 a month take home' .. Taxes+Insurance should not be $400 a month for anyone that is making under 20k a year. You should only have FICA taken out, which comes to a grand total of about $150 a month. If you are paying $250 a month for insurance as a single person under the age of 25, find another provider.

Let's also not forget your not guaranteed 40 hours a week with a lot of jobs in the current job climate. Also talking about savings, if you are simply getting by, it's really hard to save.

That's a different issue. All this was about is that the minimum wage is sufficient for comfortable living for a responsible individual.

Its also hard to save your money when your practically brainwashed by non-stop advertising telling you that to survive you must have an Iphone, etcetera.
