"The tie was made to complement the jacket" - what? I think of my tie as another accessory, similar to the way my belt compliments my shoes and also gives a division between my top and bottom half. With a tie bar holding it in place it's kind of like a belt that goes down the center of my chest. I know that sounds weird at first but I think it makes sense.
As for t-shirt/blazer - like many looks, it depends on fit. Slim fitting t-shirt, well tailored blazer? Looks sharp. Sloppy Zerg t-shirt? looks like shit. You really think this look just doesn't work? -> http://www.hm.com/us/product/96657?article=96657-B
Usually I'll wear: Black shoes - something like: http://www1.macys.com/shop/product/calvin-klein-shoes-hamilton-moc-toe-oxfords?ID=183736&CategoryID=55639 I'm hesitant to get anything nicer than this since I do an insane amount of pacing every day and the floors in my school are FILTHY and covered in chalk and dirt and food.
Invisible/ very low cut socks (I don't mind showing some ankle when seated) OR complimentary calf length socks (matching my pants). Most of my socks are solid black. I'm growing my gray/brown/navys in argyle/other patterns.
My favorite pair of pants is are lightweight gray wool (from Express). I have some nice khakis but I'm phasing them out as I'm noticing pen marks on them. I got a new pair from Bonobos.com but need to have them hemmed. I stay away from black even though it can work w/ certain shirt colors due to the insane amount of chalk on the floors - I can't help getting chalk all around the ankles or pant pockets : \ I also had them hemmed about half an inch too short : \
Black leather belt, simple belt buckle (http://www.express.com/2-in-1-reversible-belt-16687-74/control/page/4/show/3/index.pro - Express makes awful belts, stay far away. The color from the black side bled into the white side for no reason.
Spread collared shirt - Almost all of them are 1MX shirts from Express, 99% of the time solid colors. White/Powder blue/purple/turquise/maroon/a brighter maroon...I have one in pretty much every color except navy blue and pink. I'd actually like to find a similar cut shirt with a smaller collar; they can overwhelm my face at times.
On top of that I have the same merino wool sweater in...4 colors? Gray, brown, red, green. http://www.express.com/italian-merino-wool-v-neck-sweater-38708-60/control/show/3/index.pro
If I'm wearing a tie it's a 2 inch black tie w/ my silver tie bar. I have a royal blue tie but I don't think it really goes well with any of my shirts.
On occasion I'll wear a vest (typically when it's warmer) or my blue blazer (very similar to: http://www.hm.com/us/product/96657?article=96657-B). Also...holy crap my blazer wasn't 60$ at H&M when I bought it 2 years ago! I'll have to go get that grey one soon.

I think the guy in the blue shirt looks 10x better then the guy in the gray tee, but that is just my opinion. I do think a sweater like the one you linked would work ok with a tie though even without a jacket. I applaud you for dressing better then most of your co-workers and going a step above the dress code

I almost forgot to say I would wear jeans (http://us.levi.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3730132&&cp=3146842.3146855.3692034.11926195) on occasion as well except...this calls for a story.
At my first teaching job many of the teachers wore jeans. Universally it was the older employees who didn't need to impress anyone anymore. Some nicer than others, but overall decent jeans - dark, plain, as well fitting as an average person. When I started my new job I heard that jeans were explicitly prohibited. Jeans are not something I would wear every day, but I definitely would like to rotate in some of my dark jeans. I couldn't understand why they weren't allowed...until one day it was a fundraiser (pay $5 -> wear jeans). After that I understood. People wore faded, floppy jeans and sneakers.

Just bought my black suit today. It's a slim fit suit and is plain black. It's getting tailored to fit me.

I finally decided to make post in here. Maybe someone can help me, but I'm afraid I'm going to end up being too vague. So if I leave something out just tell me, and I'll edit it in.
I have two problems: one I can never find jeans the seem to fit me in every dimension, and two I can never find shirts that sit where I would like on my waist. I'm a little bit taller then ~167 cm (5'6"), and I always find that pants generally have too much room in the crotch area. Not to mention I tend to find most pants very loose around my leg, I want something slim, but not skinny jeans. I didn't give too much info here, but is there perhaps a certain cut of jean's I should look for?
When it comes to shirts (t-shirts, dress shirts, etc..) I usually find something fits well around my chest, and torso but always the shirts come past where I want them to sit. I would like my shirts just to fall right below where my belt sits, and have a 'fitted' look. Something that fits like this rather then this. Is there something special I should look for, or perhaps a place I should try shopping?
I'm simply curious as I plan to go across the border to Washington Seattle/Bellingham area, and pick up a few things. Some tips are appreciated, and again if there is more info that I can give that would help whoever wants to help me then just ask.

Point one, not sure but a regular or regular bootcut are probably good places to start. I'm by no means knowledgeable about that though.
Point two, I think you answered your own question. Get a "Fitted cut" dress-shirt. That's what they're called. Sometimes they are called "Modern cut." Depends on the brand.

Okay.
So earlier this season I bought an expensive cashmere-wool blend coat. I want to know what recommendations people have for taking care of this garment.
For example, how often do you wash it? Once per season? Twice? Never? And how do you wash it? How would you effectively get rid of things like hair and what not without washing it?
And while on the subject of cleansing. I also have a nice jacket. Unfortunately it has gotten some small white stains under the sleaves right near the armpit. Not noticeable by others but I don't want them there... Should I get it washed? Would it be enough to just try to soak the sleaves with warm water or something? Are regular stain deterrents a big no no? How often do you wash jackets/blazers? Dress pants?
I guess overall I'm just too afraid to really do something because I fear I may ruin quality clothes by not caring for them properly...

@GDR, stay away from boot cuts. boot cut means that below the knee the pant widens, this is in theory to make room for wearing a large boot, hence the name, from your description it sounds like you want tapered jean which will narrow from the knee to the ankle therefore staying closer to your leg.
I would try levis, 511, don't be afraid of the name skinny jean it is not at and emo skinny jean, its just a slim fit jean made for smaller people. The next step up would be the 513 then 514. Finally the 520, and 521. If I were you I'd go to a store and start with the 511, and work your way up from there. If you can't find one of the options in your size you can always order online from a place with a good return policy like zappos.
As far as shirts go, look for "sport shits" opposed to "dress shirts" because as a general rule sport shirts are meant to be worn untucked and dress shirts are meant to be tucked. Check out the lands-end canvas sale, some good stuff, and nice return policy.
@Statis, I like US style but I'm a traditionalist. I could see the Korean style working for some people, as long as you realize it is much more casual, and don't try to dress it up or anything, but for jeans like you say, I think either one could work.
@Jonte, read the tag but most likely your jacket is dry clean only, if it is don't try anything fancy just bring it in and get it dry cleaned. The same applies to your jacket and dress pants. As far as removing hair and other things between cleaning get yourself a lint roller. As far as how often to get your clothes dry cleaned, only as needed, I think most people do it more often then needed, dry cleaning is hard on clothes, so you should really do it only when hanging the clothes for 24 hours wont remove the smells anymore or there are stains.

I have the same problem. Check out Levi's 511s or 514 and then get them hemmed so they have little to no break (they just touch your shoes).

When it comes to jeans http://shop.nudiejeans.com/ is the best thing that has happened to me so far I have to say... I always had problems finding jeans that really fit me since I'm super skinny and relatively tall. I haven't had any luck so far finding 27/34 sized jeans anywhere else, even 28/32 seems to be pretty rare around here... Most shops seem to start with stuff like 28/30, 30/32 and 32/34 or something, but I'd fit 2 times inside those things, lol

Does custom fit also fall into this category? I swear why can't everyone just agree on one name. So confusing.

If your talking about polo "custom fit" it goes slim fit is the slimmest, then custom then standard or classic whatever they call it. They all explain the fits on their websites if you look around you will see them

Do regular converse all-start shoes go well with original jeans? I just realized that I only have one pair of skinny jeans (that are gray). >.>

What kind of jeans are you referring to as "original"?
