The sad thing is, I know that SC2 is designed in a similar enough way that eventually this will be the fate of SC2 servers as well. The fact of the matter is that it isn't possible for Blizzard to detect external maphacks, and therefore they cannot stop hacking or it's inevitable growth. They could theoretically detect it by scanning external processes, but I believe they were sued for doing that very thing in WoW and haven't done it in years. That's part of the reason I've never taken SC2 as seriously as I wanted to. There is no way to prevent someone from having a massive advantage over you. I guess in LAN type tournaments with dedicated computers this type of thing would be preventable, but the ladder and any online tournament is subject to hacking. So long as the majority of people play legit, I will not use hacks. But once a large enough percentage of people start using hacks in a game, I consider them simply a new part of the game and start using them in order to not be completely helpless against other hackers.

Then I learned there were a growing number of people using "anti-hack" hacks, or hacks to detect hackers. The entire server was like hacker wars more than actual starcraft. I know, I was stupid for using battle net in the first place. The sad thing is, I know that SC2 is designed in a similar enough way that eventually this will be the fate of SC2 servers as well. They do it in sc2 and still do it in wow. (Scan for external processes affecting the game in any way)

Their EULA says that they can, but that haven't done it since SC2 was released at least. There are hackers who have used external hacks since release and never been detected or banned.

One of the games that gets the most flack for having many hackers and I've even known people who quit the game over it is the free to play shooter, APB. The crying about hacks is almost endless and you'd think there was a hacker in every game, but the truth is that only about 2% of players hack in that game. I don't know what the stats are for broodwar, but I can't imagine it being much more than that. The simple fact is that the vast majority of players don't even know what a hack is. Back on topic: I'm a huge fan of exploiting and will abuse absolutely anything that exists in the game. If you don't, you're doing it wrong. It's up to the devs to make the game function the way they intend it to - not my job to play by some artificial set of constraints when an easier route is available to me. I usually try hacks as well in a controlled enviornment to learn how they work.

Also in Runescape (the old one) I used to use bots to grind for me, but eventually I got banned and stopped playing. Nowadays the worst thing I have done is use AutoMouseClicker to not get kicked out of battlegrounds in WoW while watching a movie or something. I don't count that as cheating though.

Far worse than using a hack IMO. At least with hackers in shooters and most hackers in RTS it's obvious and you can laugh while trying to defeat them. And they are using the hack to defeat a person they are supposed to be against. AFKing a battle ground directly hurts all the people on your team - the people you're supposed to be helping and is the ultimate form of online narcissism. I personally believe they should make AFKing a bannable offense, or at the very least remove all your PvP gear if you're caught, rather than just kicking you out and giving you a joke debuff.

In single player games I will sometimes create a seperate game/save/house where I will use cheats and fuck around. Never in multiplayer games, I don't find it appealling.
