I was visiting my favourite gaming site one day (guess what it is ) and I started to notice a disturbing trend. People were writing the words, "first floor" or "wooooooo first post" if they were first to reply to a thread.
Sometimes, people would even edit their posts with "first floor" after the fact because they realized the fantastic and unbelievable had occured, and they wanted to share it with all of us. Worse yet, some would post and fail to get "first floor" after another idiot posted it, or something just as short and useless, a fraction of a second before they could, resulting in edits of "oh crap" or "darn, almost had it".
Well I'll tell you who's had it...me! I'm sick and tired of seeing this shit on every site I go to. Gosugamers is probably one of the most over-run with it that I have seen and it saddens me to see such a quality news site have such shitty forums.
The point I'm making here people is that there are only 3 reasons why you would post "first floor" in a thread.
#1: You have nothing to say of importance but want to spam something. #2: You believe that the rest of us are unaware that you were the first to post and you are providing a helpful reminder. #3: You think that posting first is a spectacular event and you want to share your joy with the world.
In all cases you are an idiot.
So next time you feel the urge to rush a post to fit in "first floor" or worse yet edit an existing post to put it in there, do us all a favour and hold your breath til' you pass out. By the time you come to someone else will have posted first and you can spare us all the grief of prematurely realizing that you are a douchebag.
Thank you tl.net. I hope you all take this to heart, because we are a special community here, not like all the others. Always know that the pathway to hell is paved with posts that remark, "first floor".
jk i know exactly what you are talking about, it is pretty annoying, although I haven't seen it around much
edit: actually I haven't seen it at all on this site :[ although it must be occurring if you are complaining about it? or just making a pre-emptive strike?
I think it only started on tl.net after the translation of an article from yaoyuan dedicated to the art of first floor. For now, it's only a reference, but I agree with you it shouldn't become a habit (though I trust the banmasters to never let such a thing happen).
So I could only find 3 individuals, but I'm just throwing this out there so that people can see, regardless of what that idiot wrote on YauYuan..."first floor" is a stupid concept.

Haha, that was a good post. I agree with the whole first floor bs, its so pointless and annoying. Arrg! Post something relevant to the topic please, k thx.
i believe they only do that in replays comments. Yaoyuan is a replay site afterall and floor grabbing has actually liften the atmosphere. Every time i click on a rep link, i get to see all the amusing remarks and some times clever flame wars etc.
I dont really care about it on a replay site when discussion about a replay doesnt take place for a while until many ppl have dled it. However, on a discussion forum I dont think it lends any kind of value. Fortunately it is a very rare sight indeed on this board and I dont see it catching on. If it does we will have to designate a specific 1st floor mod to deal with the situation :p

Ive never even heard of first floor before, but i have seen some morons typing 1st ans stuff like that. What i really dont like is when you ask a question on a forum site and the persons response is: GOOGLE IT! No fucking shit im sure the person wants someones response within this community or they wouldnt have asked the question here, or maybe just maybe they already looked under google and couldn't find what they wanted. the other thing that bothers me is when people type old when posting a link or vid. Its not old to everyone you idiot. Not everything old is bad, milfs are old they are good, wine is old it is good. Speaking of whining im done now. But someone else got to bitch so i figured that i would also.
i guess it doesnt really make much difference since 90% of tl.net posts are oneliners without any usefull content anyways. pretty sad most people dont realize that in a discussion forum posts like "yeah" and "me too" are just inappropriate
Well, if it was actually difficult to get a "first floor" post, then I might be able see the point. Anything can become a game, and everybody likes competition, but on these sites it's so easy there's no point.
I think the have some thin to prevent this (mods or script) on FARK so when you write "#1 omg lolz blaha ect" your post get it's time changed with like some hours or whatever and the text is changed to "boobies" or something like that... Not 100% sure of this as I read it a month ago and migh have misunderstood it.. But it would probably work. Have not noticed any disturbing amount of "first floor" posts TL yet so warning and banning seems to work really good too.
Way to be a fool by contributing nothing to the discussion.
It was necessary, because it's fucking annoying to see this shit on the forum.

That's annoying too, to see assholes posting "lol" in response to a topic, or if it's something bad or saddening, they post "OMG THAT'S HORRIBLE!" Thanks, we knew that, that's why it was posted. The worst is when someone just inserts a smilie into the post as a response.

Glad to see I'm not the only one who sees a problem here. I was beginning to think I was alone.
And Gryf, If Reach stopped being the best toss player to ever live and Nada stopped being the most boring macro no-brain terran to ever live...I might share your taste in favourite pro players.

btw, 4th edit : damn 5th :p
bwahahah! thx to me TL.net is infected from the vileness of YY.com :p but dude seriously... it's nothing wrong with 1st floor, really... as long as he makes a good post then it's perfectly fine. But just for the sake of getting 1st floor would not be cool I agree. And we do not see such thing happening in TL.net often. So... what could I say... just chill? have a nice day
edit: to wasted, I agree with what you have said... It's not like 1st floor is by any means good or contributing at all but all the same, there are precious gold posts in a single thread, in fact, most posts on Internet forum are not written by shakeaspear

If they like it so much then they can play it somewhere else, where it won't bother us.
Sorrow_eyes: even if the first response contributes something, it will still get annoying and dumb really fast if lots of people start including "first floor" in the first reply. So I suggest that you do not start.

Off-topic question out of curiousity.. Does the blue text mean you are a moderator? What about the reddish brown? Admin? Btw, I gotta stop posting so much.. I got a SPAM warning message.

It's fucking retarded to post "first floor." Every time I see it, it makes me want to punch a hole in my monitor. It's incredibly stupid. "First floor," what the fuck? Stop posting that stupid shit. In fact, if I saw that at the beginning of a post, I'd probably dismiss the whole thing immediately, because it'd have to be something stupid to go along with that.

I'm pretty sure that the blue text means he is a news poster, an the red text means moderator/admin. I think that's how it works. The news posters might get some moderator privelages, also, but I'm not sure.
I firmly beleive there are people who make an account on a forum for the sole purpose of posting "first post" in the news section. On a music site I go to a lot, there are people who post comments under the news, but don't post on the forum. Most of them battle to see who can get the first post.
Quote taken from the translation of the 'Art to first Floor':
"Grabbing floor is a culture of us YY people, is our love and support of YY.com. We might not able to write fabulous replies, nor have we the money to buy YY a new server. The best we can do, however, is to GRAB THAT FLOOR with great passion, to tell those mods that we DO care about YY.com. we DO care about starcraft!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! YaoYuan will never fail, YaoYuan Live and Die With STARCRAFT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
So you see its all about telling the mods that they DO care. Oh, and live and die with starcraft!

They do it because they are retards, not because they care about the site.
I think a new rule banning all morons who put "first floor" in the first reply of a topic should be put into effect immediately. It doesn't backdate, or whatever the hell it's called. So, if you did it in the past, you'd be safe, but do it again and BANNED.

dont listen to sickoflife on this one... he was been abit sarcastic Everyone can do blue text or red or brown. There is a code for it, like text or soemthing... I dont know it exactly but im sure someone else know. I still think that for about 1% of the TL.net's post with first-floor on it doesnt need to make this huge of a fuss... it shows passion of stupidity, i mean its stupid, but it has passion!

Uhhhhhhhhhhhhhh............. He's talking about the names being colored, not the body text. Blue is for news posters, and red is moderators/admins, I think. I'm sure Saro or someone has explained it before.
Haven't you ever noticed Drone, Meat, Klogon, etc, have red names instead of the standard black? And Rekrul has a bolded black name, because he bans people so much, and he also has the grim reaper thing.
This started (not sure if original) on Gamefaqs like 2 or 3 years ago. But it was always like "first"; many of these posts happened in CJayC's (the owner) topics. After that it seemed to migrate to other 'famous' topics and topic creators. Another thing about GameFaqs is that topics can only have 500 posts, then they are closed. So people would also spam topics to get the infamous 500th post and claim it by writing: "500".
I have never heard "first floor" or anything so that is all new.

The second one being even more annoying as he missed the first reply and posted "2nd floor" in his post. Seriously man, you're doing nothing but making yourself look like an asshole and annoying a bunch of people.
This is the second time you've been asked to stop. Please don't do it again.
