1. Standard goes more naturally with fractions - quarter of a pint, half foot, etc. Technically, you don't say half meter but rather 50 centimeters or 500 millimeters. 2. Standard units are more practical and convenient. No one goes to the grocery to buy 400ml drink, instead, they buy it in 12 ounces. No one buys 5 meters of wood, instead, they buy it is 1x1x12, all in feet. Technically you might not say half a meter, but many do in actual conversation. As for two, I really don't follow. Why is it better to buy 12 ounces of something than 400ml? Not that you can get 400 ml of milk, at least not in Denmark. The same is true of wood. Why is it more natural to buy it in feet? This has to do with the system you have grown up with or gotten comfortable with, not which one is objectively more natural. Personally, I use metric for everything, because that's what I understand best and what I grew up with. I find any other system bewildering, to say the least.

Of course we as humans usually wear cloths so this is assuming your skin is naked ![]()

You can survive 0 while naked for hours, if not days, if you are moving. Not sure about the deeper temperures while naked, but -20 is perfectly fine when you have three layers of clothes. I regularly walk in negative temperatures just in T-shirt and light pants mainly when walking uphill with a backpack and no wind. edit: user instead of sure, one of my best typos ever

Or if they actually benefit because they learn how arbitrary unit lengths can be and doesn't need to be as simple as metric (but looking at this thread, some do not even learn both systems at all). For those that say 12-base makes more sense than 10-base, in which field would this be the case? I understand how power of twos are quite useful today, but 12-base? The only thing I can think of is the time in hours. Still, language/customs are not always logical and/or make it easy to learn math and yet seem so natural for native speakers. For example, in the German language, the last digit is pronounced before the second last digit, so 123 is "einhundertdreiundzwanzig" which would be "onehundred-three-twenty". In the French language, I find it mind-boggling how 80 is quatre-vingt and every number above 80 under 100 is quatre-vingt + something, for example 96 is quatre-vingt-seize. No learning metric was a little weird at first. But honestly the metric system is pretty simple and if a High School student cant figure out the metric system they have more problems than physics.

Being a mechanic can be such a pain with both systems. It would be a lot cheaper on the wallet if we didn't need to buy two sets of spanners and sockets etc, AND it would be a hellovalot lighter to cart around. Go metric pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeease.

Personally i was raised up using the standard measurements but after taking the time to understand the metric system, it simply just makes more sense to use it, and does not take long to learn.
