Yup as long as the ads aren't overly intrusive I'm ok with them. To be honest on the anime thread the ads have introduced me to some very cool and interesting shows I wouldn't have seen otherwise.
Based on how it is now I will never adblock tl. The same way I don't adblock JTV streams I enjoy watching.
The main reason I have adblock is simply for intrusive ads you find on websites that provide television shows and upload sites like megaupload. Those pop ups and music/sfx playing ads are the bane of my internet existence.
Not to mention some pop ups and ads actually install malicious software on your computer.

It's a matter of principle, against advertisment in general. Why? 2 reasons. 1. it is a a very unproductive activity for society, in which yet a lot of money, time, and energy is thrown (away). How many people work to make ads? and for what purpose? Wouldn't all this be better used somewhere else? 2. the content of ads is generally not a celebration of the intelligence of man. Quite the contrary. I am definitely willing subscribe to teamliquid, like paying a monthly fee; sure they deserve it. I do that for other websites, like news sites. I suggest that TL organizes this (if you are a subscriber, we suppress ads for you). But no ads sorry It's depressing to read the shit people come up with to justify blocking ads. Thats Fact boy. Complaining about ads in a forum paid for by advertising, run by a team supported by advertising, all about professional gaming, which is overwhelmingly funded by advertising. Pretty amazing. I type how I type..... TL wouldn't have sponsors if they weren't dedicated to excellence, Infact any team sponsored shows good business sense and good players, still can't make me like them though. Seriously, if you want something you enjoy and don't want to support those who make that possible I don't know what words describe you better then a selfish douche. I was obiously beeing sarcasting and your proving my point (not paying for e-sports-your a douche, you dont belong here). No hard feelings please. It has nothing to do with not paying for esports = douche. It has to do with enjoying the fruits of someones labor while actively taking away revenue that makes the labor possible. edit:grammar

Arent you contradicting? saying that taking away revenue is beeing a douche, but not paying is not? Thats just nitpicking, i understand what you mean since advertising and adblocking does not follow the classical rules of advertising.
i honestly think your are just slightly disturbed fanboy, well fanboys are good, since they create majority of the industry. Why in the world would you ever care if somone ELSE is doing someting LEGAL (and nothing unmoral, or unethical). Personally i dont have ad block (i think, since i have some small commercials). Its like saying to a football fan that why is he switching from commercials between the halftimes to another channel, thats beeing again football!!!!!!
EDIT: too fail in english

EDIT: too fail in english I thought you would compare internet advertising to TV, and it doesn't work. TV ad revenue isn't generated by how many people see or click the ad. They pay a flat fee for the advertising time.
As far as why I care someone else does something legal like this, it's because it can directly effect me. If TL can't support itself from ads then they have to change revenue system or close. I don't want to have to subscribe to TL to use it and I definitely don't want to have it go away completely.
Also, yes, you're getting into semantics over my wording. 'Not paying' for something assumes it has a cost. Usually, this is a monetary cost, like video games. And I would say if you pirate video games you're a selfish douche as well. However, in this case, the cost of TL.net is seeing a couple or relatively non-intrusive ads. If you make it so those ads aren't displayed then you aren't paying the cost of using TL.net.

Not to be mean to you OP but... putting such obviously bias choices in your survey makes this thread kind of silly. You are basically trying to insult everyone that doesn't agree with you. I do not use adblock but trying to get people to stop by insulting them is maybe not the best idea.

ads on TL aren't annoying at all. No reason to block 'em.
|
what does it say about me that i like to see elly the esports elephant in tears?
|
There are a few reason why I have teamliquid ad blocked. 1) Allowing ads on tl allows ads on embedded streams. I know there is a way around this but its not worth my time to figure out. 2) I don't actually agree with the moderation practices of tl, or the reasons they give for those practices. TL has a pretty effective monopoly on esports/sc2 content, so I don't see any reason to support them. If there was a true competitor to tl with more open moderation I would support it, and attempt to "help esports."
Edit: Just realized I bought a tl shirt over the summer. Guess im a hypocrite.

I don't even use adblock at all.
|
I wouldn't block TL but I view a lot of streams through this site and I don't want to sit through the ad that plays when I first open every single stream. When I open a stream I do it to check what's on it and there is a chance of about 70-80% that I wont even end up watching. Thus making that initial ad a huge waste of time. If I could block that one thing I would gladly disable ad-block on TL as I have done in the past.
|
I guess when I'm watching streams I often switch over to chrome to view them since it seems to run twitch tv a bit better. No noscript there. It's a start.
|
Don't have adblock at all (too lazy oO), so I guess I'm not adblocking TL :p

Show me a person who adblocks TeamLiquid, and I'll show you an eventual permanently banned user.

This is the same case for me, I block through my hosts file. Although I haven't updated that in a while so a few of Google's adds can sneak passed.

No of course not, I love esports.
+ Show Spoiler +I dont even have add block mwahaha

How do you know if you have adblocker? I get commercials on streams and such, i don't want to addblock TL
|
I think the idea of using an adblocker is completely selfish and shows an attitude which is really not what Esports needs. Of course I dont use an adblocker, these people rely on sponsers in order to continue living their dream, if you appreciate watching them, then deal with 30 second ads between games, really you have to be such an asshole to use an adblocker!
|
I do block them. I have put much effort to help community/TL.net in past so I've payed my dues. Also I find "don't ruin esports" really absurd as well.
|
Little do people know that admins are keeping track of whoever voted yes for a mass banning...
No, but seriously I don't see why you couldn't turn off adblock for TL since the ads aren't annoying. I can understand why people think stream ads are annoying though, but part of the reason they stream is for a bit of income as well so support the players you watch. Although I will turn on adblock just when I'm checking what stream I want to watch because an ad pops up before you can see what the player is currently doing.

Why should I have to deal with that on TL, especially when I can go directly to the content generator's website to the view that same content and support them directly? I should not have to put my computer at risk in order to view free content, especially when it is third party content. And this doesn't support eSports--it supports TL (I also wonder how much of the ad revenue from streams goes to the content creators? if any, will they be pleased to learn that TL is essentially blocking access to their content for its own gain?). So a loud message to TL: do not ever ask anyone to not utilize a feature on their computer that is desirable for both its convenience and the added safety it provides to the user for your benefit--it makes you look less than legitimate.
And I'll state one of my pet peeves directly: don't fucking play the "support eSports" card.
Edit: And it's also bad from a website usability standpoint, which in turn will decrease traffic. If this stays on as it is, I won't use TL to view streams.
This.
I would consider un-adblock Teamliquid if TL is willing to reveal its financial record. Otherwise, no.

ESPORTS is an embryo and we are the womb of ESPORTS. TL is the mother. Do you ask your mother what nutrients and wastes you exchange through the umbilical cord? No.
