She's smart enough to record footage etc, she's smart enough to evade any measures he could have put in place to prevent her illegal activity. A whack with a belt won't cause any damage, or even any lasting pain, it's over in the moment.

bold statement is not true, thus reason why people seem to think violence is "momentary", and ignore any psychological effects related to it.
It's not like it works either, I was a smart kid, getting beat just made me dishonest, I never stopped doing the stuff that got me beat (like playing video games for example), I just got good at hiding and/or lying about it( and there was a lot to hide from my father).

In North Carolina, where I live, you cannot ground your 16 or 17 year old. It falls under the anti-slavery laws.
They can leave then house whenever they want to.
Meanwhile you are still required to financially support them and can be held responsible for some of their misbehavior.
This creates all sorts of weird situations. If you have given them a car you can always threaten to take that away. Some parents have threatened to not pay for college, but teenagers just call their bluff and that is not even an option for those parents who cannot afford to pay for college.
I am not sure what to do overall, but I don't think beatings like this help much of anything.
Can someone who knows about this suggest the best way to handle punishing illegal behavior by a 16 year old that could potentially impact the whole family?
i answer this query tentatively, if your kids actions illegal or otherwise cause your family to be unsafe or feel unsafe in their home then you kick em out, they think they can make decisions which puts others in danger like actuall physical violent danger then they can take care of themselves.....now in canada for a person under the age of 18 to be evicted by their parents the parents have to give them the phone number of youth shelters i dunno how it works in america or state to state

There is no way beating can help explaining something to a 16 year old. If she screwed up that bad take the pc away, cut off internet. But fucking beating the girl? Thats sick.

indeed, the only time i learned anything was the simple slap to the face for being rude, any of the more severe beltings(which were nowhere near as severe as htis movie) i feel that i simply went into anti pain mode, were your biggest thought is how to deal with the pain rather then learn anything about what you did wrong. and in the case of this video when filesharing is simply a lawful problem not a morale one i dont see how the beating is warranted, the poeple posting before saying taking computer away achieves same end are right

I doubt it's even going to be that. What he did isn't obviously illegal (LOL Texas) and the evidence might not be admissible at all.

ROFL.
IDK how a (rather severe, sure) "belting" compares to being stoned, set on fire, decapitated, etc, as is common in the middle east (only for women, ofc). Look up "honor killings" for more awesome details. <3 muslims/arabs and their wonderful barbarism...reminds me of what the rest of the world used to be like 3000 years ago.
Mhh 3000 years ago...? Its just a 100 years ago that they lynched black men in the usa and about the history of my own country I dont even have to talk about... I think its very insulting to say the muslim world is 3000 years behind the western world, thats hatespeech.
Im very happy to have loving parents, so that shit like in the video didnt happen to me. Its disgusting and quite frankly some of the reactions are too.

You cannot keep somebody out of your computer if they have local access to it. Any schoolchild can show you this.

Good for her for outsmarting that barbaric motherfucker.
Why doesn't he just lock his computer or take hers away, instead of beating her, wouldn't that be a better way to protect both of them if his concern was his job. Wouldn't it be more risky to beat the fuck out of your daughter when your job relies on you being a stable person?
I think you might be trolling... not sure. Prolly tho.

The fact that she didn't reveal this to CPS (child protective services)/police or whatever 6-7 years ago could mean that she didn't record this as a cry for help, but just a ploy for revenge. The fact that she waited for her father's election further supports this point. With her father being a judge, the family was probably pretty well off, had CPS taken her away from the family she probably lose all the previlages of being in that family.
In no way do I support the actions of her father, I have been punished as a kid and I do not believe that being beaten is NOT the right way to bring up a child. It makes your child fear you. Until this day I still fear my parents and I believe our relationship isn't where it should be because of that. I do not think I will beat my kids I believe there are better solutions for discpline.
I do believe her father should be exposed for his ways, but 6-7 years ago would have also been the "right timing".

If the admin locks the user account, the user doesn't get access into the computer. Having an admin and user accounts prevents unwanted programs from being installed. Every IT guy will tell you this.

Yea. I see this beating as bad, but there is so much more going on here in that the father is demoralizing his girl. This is psychological as well as physical abuse. While I don't agree with corporeal punishment in the family, I can see how some people would be okay with it.
This video, however, shows an extreme form of both corporeal and psychological abuse. Can you imagine this girl ever hugging her father out of anything more than fear? For those of you who are okay with such punishment, how do you express love and affection after such an event.
Finally, for those of you arguing that she did things during the beating that legitimated more of a beating...at one point, he seems to react to the look on her face. How can we judge him to be in his right mind to read her actions and judge the need for more discipline when he is so close to his rage as to lack any ability to discern nuance? The man looked stark-fucking-raving-mad to me.

It´s actually pretty hard to do what you did here. You not only made a very bold statement with 0 sources and 0 claim, you also fit some prejudice in the same message. I´m not sure I would be able to do that even if I tried!

Too bad nobody but you gives a flying fuck about this even if it were true, the fact that she got physically and psychologically abused still stands regardless and that's what really matters.
iam pretty sure everything shown in the video is illegal in my country. As is any beating, spanking, psychological abuse etc.
i seriously wonder how it can be that so many americans think this can be legal in their country. A little reminder this video was discussed heavily and she was accused of heavy child abuse in america. So how can anyone say what is shown in the new video is ok?
That so many people think its "OK" is actually a huge problem. The reason why we still have problems with child abuse is just because of people that think and say "yeah its not actually that bad" and "i was beaten when i was a kid and look at me i am a ... and it didnt hurt me at all".
I'm kinda shocked, not about the video but rather that people just dont give a shit.
