Also if this girl was 16, then this isn't just spanking a child. 16 year olds can be tried as adults. Her parents tell her to take it like an adult. If they see her as an adult, then this is assault. Threatening to do it to her face as well? I've seen people spend time in jail for less than that.

As is any beating, spanking, psychological abuse etc. i seriously wonder how it can be that so many americans think this can be legal in their country. A little reminder this video was discussed heavily and she was accused of heavy child abuse in america. So how can anyone say what is shown in the new video is ok? That so many people think its "OK" is actually a huge problem. The reason why we still have problems with child abuse is just because of people that think and say "yeah its not actually that bad" and "i was beaten when i was a kid and look at me i am a ... and it didnt hurt me at all". I'm kinda shocked, not about the video but rather that people just dont give a shit. Honestly I'm far more disturbed by this than the video in the OP. Actually you can't compare that kind of brutal beating to a meticolous psychological and physical torture administrated on a children. Both are unacceptable but I think what the child received was far more terrible.

2) The description in the video is beyond biased. Stop basing your information/views from it.

Hes a judge ... he should know better. As for corporal punishment and etc arguments ITs one thing to give someoen a slap .. its another to beat them. I used to get beat by my parents ... im lookign forward to them being old - 1 down 1 to go ... and im terrified that i will treat my kids like they tret me. But i tell you what ... no fucker bullies me. So mental scarring? not really. did it effect me? yeah but not in the good way. I am a very aggressive person but not in a physical way anymore.

Furthermore, the father mentioned that she lied and stole from him? That is fucking serious shit. A child must be discouraged from stealing at all costs. Its the indication when you know your child is gonna get fucked up later in life. For that, if she really did steal, then by all means cane her! But not with a belt and repeated strikes. A few taps on the palm or a few licks on the buttocks will do nicely. Then ground her for 3 months or more. I know this is a slippery slope, but corporal punishment has greater benefits than drawbacks. It all depends on the execution and follow up. And one more question to all the Swedes and Europeans in general - how do you discipline a child who stole the parent's money? How do you stop the child's slide into stealing from other people?

And I was raised where, as a small child, being "spanked" was a common punishment (though in all honesty, I can say it did nothing to teach me respect for my parents, and especially once I became tolerant of it. However, through an open and mutual understanding, my father and I have a positive, respectful relationship, as I can tell). But considering the "justification" (Dem darn kids be messin wit dem newmanfangled internets!!), this is just disgusting. And to think it was not even some "hick" living in a tin shack with a confederate flag on his trashcan, but a leader in the Texas court system... To think that you set up a camera in your room to expose this, and it takes THIS LONG (caps lock=srs_bsns) to reveal it. I would've have the USB plug out before he could re-tightened his pants. Good for her.

The fact that she waited for her father's election further supports this point. With her father being a judge, the family was probably pretty well off, had CPS taken her away from the family she probably lose all the previlages of being in that family. In no way do I support the actions of her father, I have been punished as a kid and I do not believe that being beaten is NOT the right way to bring up a child. It makes your child fear you. Until this day I still fear my parents and I believe our relationship isn't where it should be because of that. I do not think I will beat my kids I believe there are better solutions for discpline. I do believe her father should be exposed for his ways, but 6-7 years ago would have also been the "right timing". I don't know what life experiences you have, but often I've found that "timing" in many cases is never what it should be.

"beating your child is ok" that is found here and not other places I regularly read. And notably, it's primarily among users from the US. Is the US SC community really a conservative one?
