I think it's important to combat racism because the only way this is ending happily is with the integration of gypsies into "mainstream" culture. What does the people supporting violence against and deportation of gypsies hope to accomplish? Europe is their home. | ||

The protests in Bulgaria were not riots and they're not againts gypsies,romani, roms or whatever you'd like to call them. They are againts the inability of our authorities to deal with a proven criminal for 20 years now. The death of the young 19 years old boy was not accident and was a direct result of the fact that the authorities did not do their jobs. I'm sure there are other posts in this tread that can be quoted about the situation. I just can't be arsed to look around for them, since they all got buried under racial and ethnical hatred so quickly -.-:: | ||

Probably because it was just a username and a wikipedia link, rather than a contribution to the nuanced discussion at hand. If you want to cite evidence from wikipedia, I'm sure it's acceptable to do so-- but you should probably include a quotation in addition to your link, as well as an explanation as to how it fits into your general argument. That being said, I'm concerned about the tensions between the romani people and many european countries. As an American, I probably don't have the most information on this sort of thing-- but I hope that nobody gets hurt. I'll keep an eye on the news as this story develops, and try to do more research before formulating an opinion. This seems like a very divisive issue. | ||

One example for all, they often make money by selling "old" iron, so they steal sewer hatches. They also know what is the maximal amount they can try to sell without prosecution, so the police is powerless except just taking the hatches away. In the evolutionary sense, they are very successful as a race, they survive by piggybacking on the modern society and we lack sufficient countermeasures. They also know how to paint themselves as the oppressed and in need of help. Goal of our lives is usually some personal success, marriage and building our own home. For them, it's usually the easiest route wins, so it's not unheard of for an entire family to live on wellfare and just have children so they have more money and not care about them at all. Hell, I even know of a family who made a house fall on themselves because they sawed off the wooden pillars to how some wood to burn. To make this problem go away you need decades of hard community work and even then the success isn't certain. It's something nobody in the current economic climate wants to do so it's limited into violent outbursts. It's a lot easier to call somebody racist from a distance and condemn their actions, but once you live next to them, you start to understand, racism in this case isn't unprovoked. | ||

Everyone is pretty much trying to milk as much as possible from the country, its people be damned. Selling factories for pocket change, inventing new taxes... I could go on for quite a bit. Thank god for that 19 km road that one guy or another built to help us grow economically... Every single one of our political clique is pretty much the same. And they all need to go. Only then can we actually accomplish something instead of fleeing abroad. | ||

This seems like a very divisive issue. read above, it was quite clearly misinterpreted that he called an entire race a plague, but rather he was just addressing a question from someone with the same username don't really blame the mod, i interpreted it that way at first as well | ||

gypsies are probably bad for a community .. just like chavs, yardies and all those pink people i see walking about. The problem is this When you dont have money you have a lot less options about what you can do. Now cash is tight people are having to make decisions that really they 'dont want' to do. I'd say very few people who are idealists survive in politics which means the only ones left are the slippery bastards who are probably pushing their own agendas under any flag they can find. so yeah i think there are recist agendas being followed. Is europs becoming racist? No the whole west is becomming more so ... especially given all i was taught about 'never again' . However what i have learnt since is that when you free a group from oppression their first reaction is to be absolute bastards to those that oppressed them (yes im talking about the jews, iraqis and lately (and no doubt soon to come) the libyans) which just acts as vindication and makes the point ... who the hell are we to take the moral high ground? I notice the only countries that *really* care about this are wealthy the rest are called third world and 'they are just struggling to survive' ... so racism sucks, it really shouldn't exist, but at the end of the day things are finite and you have to at some point make an irrational decision about who gets what. At which point Goodwins law will be invoked. Ie Right + Wrong vs necessity. | ||
