The founders of pirate bay have started a new "legal" file sharing service much like rapidshare. It allows users to anonymously upload files and share them with a group of people. If the copyright holders contact Bayfiles about a copy write infringement they will take the file down, but it can be re-hosted under a different name. If the file is compressed or encrypted it makes it much harder for copyright holders to identify the file.
This system is legal as long as it doesn't encourage or promote copyright infringement, and because the users are anonymous it is harder to catch the up-loaders and people sharing the files.
What do you guys think? Will this become as popular as torrents now that they are coming under fire?
No time restrictions. Without premium you can only download one file an hour. With premium, there's no limit.
Sorry. But I'll stick to Mediafire.
Pretty much this. I couldn't care less that its the same owners as TPB. The 250MB file size is nice to be sure, but if it's gonna impose download restrictions and make me enter captchas, I'm gonna stay with mediafire and megaupload.
i don't know how mediafire does it, they're the only site that allows download managers and no wait time on downloads @_@
as for bayfiles... i don't think it matters if it's the same owners as TPB, there's nothing special about this site that differentiates it from the other DDl sites

Are you sure mediafire doesn't track who uploads what? I don't know how mediafire works, but that's the main perk of this site, anonymity. Besides I trust the owners of TBP a hell of allot more then mediafire's, who i've never even heard about.

Mediafire has been blocked in China for a long time now. You guys are so lucky T_T
In fact by now, pretty much all file sharing sites have been blocked here. Rapidshare, Megaupload, Mediafire, Fileserve, Filesonic, and Hotfile are all down.

Tryin' to preserve the livelihood of those guys selling infringed material eh?
this isn't going to be anymore legal then torrent or any file hosting website, people will just use msg boards to link illegal downloads on passworded ziped files. In fact the part that encourages anonymity encourages illegal activity t-t
im in canada, this is me not giving a fuck about illigally downloading shit. it sounds like it will just be about playing hide-n-seek, a lot will get taken down quickly

it is legal, as long as they comply to take-down notices, which they do.
Don't compare to torrents, torrents are illegal because you upload data while you download, unlike a DDL site.
I'll stick with Megaupload for now. Maybe if this get's more popular and all that, i might check the premium out. But there is already so many services out there, so we will see.
Of course I will start using it if it becomes awesome! Don't some colleges have some sort of thing like this too? Students all over can share files which is really nice but for now I'm sticking with media, mega, and all the other wonderful ones.

Torrenting Linux ( Free Distributable ) ??? it's not legal in anyway...
Just because something is a torrent does not make it illegal...
Benefits of a torrent... corrupt hashes---> redownloaded hashes/automatically fixes it...
Direct download sites... corrupt hashes---> you might as well redownload the whole file...

Torrenting Linux is very legal. what are you on about.
Way to miss the point, it is not about corrupt hashes, but whether or not you upload copyrighted material.

He was being sarcastic about this remark "torrents are illegal because you upload data while you download". Basically what you said there implies all torrents are illegal, and he was sarcastically saying that linux torrents are illegal.
And to the OP, I don't think it'll make much of a difference really. Torrents work so well for most people as it is that I don't see this working out so well. I mean I guess it would be handy for a few instances but all in all I still think torrents are better
