I've never really cared about browsers, i dont really notice any difference in them. I use chrome just because i downloaded it one day and it just sort of stuck, but i wouldnt have a problem using IE or firefox or whatever. (anything except safari) And 99% of the people i know dont care either.
I think it's strange how if you used opera in 2006 you had an IQ of 100, now you have one of 130, which is very high compared to average.
So either people using Opera got smarter, or all the "stupid" people switched away from Opera, i wonder which it is...
Also, every person i know above the age of 40 uses IE. I guess that makes them stupid ^^

The other browsers aren't preloaded and thus avoid the people who are to incompetent to figure out how to change their browser.

Now my girlfriend uses IE because she doesn't like spending time on the computer (and doesn't like computers in general). Therefore she uses the default browser of her laptop. How on earth can that be correlative with a lack of intelligence?
Thats the funny thing about statistics. You never know which of the 2 causes the other. Now I would like to argue that someones intelligence influences the choice of browser. For example Opera is very popular among programmers etc. In order to be able to code you need a certain treshhold of intelligence. Internet explorer on the other hand is used by pretty much everyone. Obviously when you compare these two groups the later will have a lower average IQ.
As for your girlfriend and also what you said after.

These are statistics over a large group of people. For all we know there are huge deviations in the data. I.e. the only thing we can infer is that someone who uses IE is more likely to have a lower IQ than a person who uses, say chrome. It does not mean that everyone who uses IE has a lower IQ than someone who uses chrome. Or perhaps it means someone with a higher IQ is more likely to use a non-default browser. As it is impossible to determine which of the two is the cause. In fact it is possible that neither is the cause and that there might be a 3th process going on in the background that explains the correlation. Or it is just dumb coincidence.
TL;DR this sort of stuff isn't science. It canb e used as tools but nothing more.
Also it made this picture from the SFW thread a bit more funny, because its true :D

As if it isn't obvious most computer retarded people would use IE when installing another browser's too much of a hassle if you barely use the computer anyway.
So every person in the world that can barely move the mouse a bit uses IE, while other browsers are usually used by computer literate people, which are usually of average or high inteligence. And they even post it by version...biased much?
Though in honesty i'm impressed safari's that high i always thought you had to be a fool to use that junk :D

I think the correlation between IQ and web browsers exist because there's a strong correlation between the different web browsers and age/generational gaps. IE, which I assume to be used by the older generations more than the new, would be more representative of an older age group.

I have been using Opera since 1996, that is all :D

Hilarity of the study aside and the sensationalist interpretations of statistics, I'm ten times more interested in the law suit. Judging by the way it's described in the OP, it must be hilarious. I have no idea why they'd even bother. Perhaps they're simply proving the point?! ;P

In 2006 you only had in IQ of 100 though : /
Lets hope 2012 will be a good year :D

Hey, I have been using IE since the day I gt my internet..
|
Why are people getting angry about this?
All this means is that IE-users who took the IQ test on that site were likely to score low, Opera users were likely to score high, etc. [Notice that scoring low can be the result of not taking the test seriously, too] No other conclusions can be drawn from this, because:
Internet IQ tests usually have no validity or generalisability to speak of (since they usually aren't normed to represent the population of users frequenting the site), and since I don't see anything that would give me a reason to assume that proper controls were in place (were the subjects equally dedicated to the test?, did they have comparable hardware equipment, was there a time limit or was 'googling answers' possible?, did they make sure people only participated once?, etc. ), so the reliability of the testing is highly questionable.

I started off with netscape nevigator, then around the win 98 times started using IE, jumped over to firefox, and then chrome the day it was launched.
I really like the lightweighted chrome and the speed it offers!

I use chrome and safari. I guess I should switch to opera.

I think this is a case of "correlation does not imply causation", especially because several of the factors are clearly somewhat dubious.

"Online IQ Tests" -_-;; Those sure give accurate results.

I agree with you, except for one point. You don't need to be intelligent to do coding and to be a programmer. You need one very specific type of intelligence, which doesn't have more value than any other type, and that everybody can learn.
IQ is so stupid that with a proper training, you can get 30 or 40 points more in a week. That's really rock solid.

I kind of grinned at the picture. Opera, truly the best, even though these statistics matter for nothing, really. :3

If I use 3 different browsers for different reasons, am I 3times as smart as the people who made this study?
Just asking...
