But not picking a better and free version of a bad program is kinda dumb if you know they exist, yeah... It's sort of a lack of logic in some certain cases.

I've always used IE and never saw what made things like Chrome or FF so much better. I actually tried FF for a while and it couldn't load some of my most frequently visited websites properly, so I stuck with IE instead. Chrome is nice, but I've used IE for so long that I don't feel like switching

a) how many people couldn't care less about which browser they use (since they aren't neccessarily online addicts like our bunch here at TL) and b) how "serious" people treat tests on the net and how this may influence survey results I wouldn't give too much about this study. Sure, the sample size is pretty large, but there are enough things that don't add up. Seriously, average IQs of 80 or 130? You've got to be kidding me. As mentioned before, it's sad to see that someone, somewhere actually has the money to spend on something like this.

Chrome is better in a lot of ways, I'll admit, but I just love pressing F4 and getting a huge list of all my favorite sites too much to bother changing. Also on this outdated version there is very limited anti-virus and other "obtrusive" features which make browsing and much smoother experience, and I'm not sure how well my old laptop would be able to handle newer browsers. Take my opinion with a grain of salt though. After all, I do have a monkey brain. I was willing to accept you like the design and how certain things look in the older version..... but smoother experience in IE6/7? I have a feeling you haven't really tried anything apart from it, because smoother and faster experience is one of the main goals of every browser development team. There are hundreds of people working daily, whose job is to MAKE A BETTER BROWSER. And you're telling me that each of these people has worked 15 years without making it better for you? Sorry but it sounds to me like preferring a chariot with wooden wheels over a BMW/Rolls Royce/Ferrari/Mercedes (cars representing Opera/Chrome/Firefox/IE9) Try using ANY of the modern browsers for a WEEK. Then try using your beloved IE6. I have a feeling you're going to puke.

ie is a crap browser, but the most popular cos its essentially the default. higher iq people think more 'outside the box' and therefore, if they know anything at about software, quickly realize that the web browsing could be far pleasant on a more appealling browser, so they go out and find one. in terms of actually browsing the web, in particualar multitab browsing, opera is simply years ahead with their ui. the only downside is that it uses a lot of memory but i think its well worth it, memory is relatively cheap these days and goes unused anyway on "home/office" pc's. it takes extensive testing to see what separates chrome and ff. opera's features simply pwn them all

Maybe using the word smoother wasn't exactly the right choice of word, but when it comes downloading files I genuinely have found it better with this outdated IE than with any other browser, dead serious. I've used Chrome and was very satisfied with it overall, but there were still some small things that I disliked. Chrome is better and more effecient when you actually use the mouse and keyboard to their full potential, but currently I'm only using my old laptop and I don't use it for any kind of serious work. I do most navigation using my touchpad. Maybe once school resumes I'll update my browser, or maybe not.
