Read the thread wtf... it has been said 500 times that correlation =/= causation. Nobody is claiming causation.

+ Show Spoiler + ![]() There's still people with IQs of 150+ using IE 8 (and 7), so there goes the whole "the study says only stupid people use IE" thing that seems to be being waved around. It is interesting, though, that IE 6 usage drops to zero at high percentiles, and both opera and IE. w/ chrome are completely nonexistent at low percentiles. It also says a little about the big ones like firefox and chrome, that kind of sit in no-man's land on the other chart. More than 40% of the top percentile share is firefox. It's also surprisingly convincing that there's clear upward and downward trends. On a personal note, safari dipping hard at high percentiles also makes me smile. tl;dr: It's a pretty silly study, done as a marketing stunt, but no matter how un-scientifically they executed it, they still got data from 100k people, and that data turns out to be kind of interesting. The OP also shows the less useful graph, imo.

BTW. The Title is highly inflamatory and uncalled for. This looks like anti-IE propaganda: OH Look! New study says on average IE users' cognitive ability is lower. --tranaslates into--> "Only dumb people use IE" lol.

How can you be sure that this hoax revelation isn't yet another PR stunt? ![]() They dont lie they mislead it's common practice to mis lead people with benchmarks and saying like 4times fast or 10 times faster to something but only in a very specialized area, teach products do that all the time, it's almost 2nd nature to amd and nvidia. http://www.cnn.com/2011/TECH/web/08/03/explorer.report.faked/index.html Anyways any online IQ test is a loaded gun to showing that it's not valid, the only valid approach would be to take random people from various locations give them an IQ test then ask them a series of question about what they use, putting what browser do they normally use as part of that pool of questions. Ofc most times all you can pull in is college sophomores so kind of ruins the data.
