I also think it's a good assessment to sue this research company. They are accusing Microsoft of "a conspiracy with Internet Explorer’s shell integration with Windows Explorer, and making its removal complicated, if not impossible." Whether or not that is true, the courts will find out. That's totally uncalled for. I'd also like to state that nowhere in that report does it state "independent research". It's pretty salient why this report came out then... ![]() Yep, let's sue a group of people for a scientific hypothesis which accompanies relevant research. Kewl.

Perhaps, but then IE wouldn't make the statistic because of too small userbase to make for a proper sample.

It seems like two completely random ideas jumbled together for no specific reason at all.. I could make one; Smarter people sit on stools than beanbags

I only use it because Firefox just died on me somehow. I used Opera before FF and just went back. And I was almost always satisfied with it.

Obviously Internet Explorer is readily available on any Windows machine. Which is why most people prefer it. The availability, instant gui recognition, and brand awareness makes it comformtable for most users. I honestly prefer Internet Explorer over Chrome, Firefox, and other various browsers due to the Tridant rendering engine which makes text looks a lot better. Also the browser offers more real estate space than most other mainstream browsers out there.

I call publicity stunt. The company puts out a very short study saying IE users are stupid then the NEXT DAY releases an article saying "they are really surprised by the unexpected attention that their study got." And that they got a lot of hate mail ... some of which threatened a lawsuit. BTW the only reason they did this "study" was because they found that making their website compatiable with IE to be too hard.

The researchers are secretly hackers and want to know which browser has more dumb people so that he can hack people more easily, obviously.

the point is, some people stick with what works because the new thing feels like just one more thing they have to learn all over again, and/or it has crappy compatibility with your current computer/OS. I.E. 6 would try to update to itself over my earlier I.E. on my computer, and then would screw things up so I couldnt use the browser, so I reverted it and kept it from updating. hence, I am really not sure this test is accurate. correlation =/= causation. and I use firefox, so apparently my IQ is only 110 now.

I've been tested to have a 130 IQ, back in 6th grade with standard tests and more recently with online tests, and they coincided with IQ. Not going to say that online tests cant be subject to fluffing results to get you to buy things, but the parity of the results makes it seem like its at least as reliable. I even remember part of the test back in 6th grade being that you remember a sequence of numbers and then repeat it backwards, so I devised envisioning them pinned against the wall so I could read them backwards. the point is, some people stick with what works because the new thing feels like just one more thing they have to learn all over again, and/or it has crappy compatibility with your current computer/OS. Oh man you had an IQ of 130 when you were 11 and you have online tests to back that up! sorry that's not that impressive. The objective of the study is obviously not to imply that using certain web browsers causes you to be stupid. It is to show that there is a correlation between smart people and people not using Internet Explorer. Smarter people are less likely to use internet explorer. Maybe because of a causal link (only idiots would stick with IE) or that there are moderating and mediating variables (smarter people are more knowledgeable with computers, smarter people buy Macs etc).
