Indeed. I don't even qualify for an IQ test.

If the average joe wants to visit cnn.com to read news, I don't think they could care less whether they used IE or Opera to view it. Intelligent people are more likely to recognize the areas of their life where they can make improvements and optimizations, and then do those improvements.
It's a fact that IE6 is a vastly inferior browser to ANY modern browser (including IE9), and this study shows that the only people who still haven't realized how to upgrade this part of their life -- must be dumb as shit.

Is Internet Explorer For The Dumb? A New Study Suggests Exactly That.
No it doesn't. What the study suggests is that dumber people are more likely to stick with the default browser. That doesn't mean IE is "for the dumb". Classical abuse of statistics.
Dumb article, if anything.

What the hell. This study has 'suspect' clearly written all over it.
Still, I will enumerate some reasons:
First off, the premise of this study just screams 'childish' to me. The conspiracy drivel that follows the 'results' just oozes unprofessionalism.
An average of 80 IQ is VERY low. In itself, It is practically sufficient for me to doubt the study, or at least its attempt to connect intelligence to browser usage..
Even if IQ were not a widely disregarded measure of intelligence, the official IQ test is supposed to be administered by a psychologist, not taken online (given all the 'IQ tests' I've seen online I wouldn't be quick to trust their quality).

I still use the Windows Classic theme on my "totally blinged out" gaming rig. Although the newer themes provide a more pleasant experience visually, I do this because I want higher FPS in-game for CoD4 and other games that I play competitively, despite the theme change only causing said frames per second to fluctuate between 3-5.
By your logic, I am "dumb as shit".

I like how the new norm for pushing a product in the modern world is to advertise that it will make you look smarter. Remember when everyone just wanted to look cool or sexy? Not complaining, just an observation.
|
LOL at this study.
|
To be fair, the sample size of Opera can't be that big considering only about 10 people still use it.
|
The average intelligence of an Opera user is 130?
Nooooooope.
I'm going to have to assume they normalized all the IQs around 100 and the IQ spread is MUCH lower than this implies, or the study is completely flawed in some big way.
|
Personally I use FF, but I think that article is bullshit. I mean come on.
Plus we all know IQ tests are not the accurate measurement of intelligence, because they are created by a person.
I mean Einstein had an IQ test of 100 in school, but he made the biggest laws pf physics in history and people actually though he was borderline crazy. So genius and crazy person go hand in hand.
But again I don't think that study is correct.

Or maybe it's just because 'more intelligent people' tend to spend more time on their PC and become advanced users who require better functionality. IE is probably good enough for the casual user and unless it's painfully slow and crashes alot people don't even consider switching from it. (it might be painfully slow for people on these forums because they have used the other browsers)

I'd have to come out and say that's probably the best joke I've heard in the last few days.

I highly doubt the results of this study. Seriously, an average IQ of 80? Do you have any idea how low that is? And Apple users that stick with safari having an average IQ of 116? This study just screams bullshit all over.
I use Chrome, btw.

The averages probably reflect the number of users of each browser more than anything...firefox is probably closest to 100 because most people use it (I don't know if they do, but maybe for their sample.)
|
That's.. pretty obvious? I mean, it has nothing to do with IE and everything to do with people who will go extra steps for something other than the default option.
|

|
The sample is around 101K people, so it's pretty huge, no?

The author of this article seems to be kinda stupid (Quote from the source article, hosted by the AptiQuant site itself):
Leonard Howard, the CEO of the company said that he has been receiving hate mail from IE users since yesterday. He said, “I just want to make it clear that the report released by my company did not suggest that if you use IE that means you have a low IQ, but what it really says is that if you have a low IQ then there are high chances that you use Internet Explorer.” He further went on to say that the company did not feel threatened at all by the lawsuit threats because they have all the scientific data and logs to back their claims. “A win in a court would only give a stamp of approval and more credibility to our report,” he quipped.
AptiQuant is a Vancouver, Canada based company that provides tools to corporates to help them measure the mental ability of existing or potential employees. In a report released yesterday, they had claimed that a study done by the company suggested that IE users have the lowest IQ as compared to other browsers.

Doesn't seem very accurate at all too me... I mean, for one: the number of users for each browser can vary drastically, and also this was only surveyed in 5 countries. I don't think there is sufficient data for this to be reliable...
+ Show Spoiler +Besides... since they involved USA in the test, then whichever browser Americans use the most would have it's average IQ drop drastically + Show Spoiler +kidding
