Keeps long nails on right hand for classical guitar (but not too creepy long except my thumb). Left hand kept really short. I have the 'generic' asian diamond stud and a ring on my left ear. Asian girlfriend encouraged me to get it, so I can only presume that asian girls think earings are badass. Hence the large asian community with piercings. From your average joe to hardcore starcraft nerd. Some older asians of Chinese descent believe that having the pinky shorter than the 2nd knuckle of the fourth finger is bad luck. So they grow the pinky to be longer than the 2nd knuckle of the 4th finger. Does that make sense? And this is a very very very minor minority. But if you are aware of Asian men just growing their pinky nail. This is it Also, the pinky helps with digging ears =p

Earrings, I like earrings, on women. It also makes getting a white a collar job that much more difficult as a man.

http://30.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_lkylkvqDzB1qclah1o1_500.jpg I don't think the point of this thread applies to me though aha... I can't stand having short nails though, feeling the skin on the tip of my finger is just weird. A lot of people think my nails are gross, but this is how I like them so I don't really care lol. On guys any nail length is fine imo as long as white parts are under .3 cm ish, they usually don't take care of it well enough and it ends up looking gross and unclean. I used to have ear piercings but I had a bad infection and it plugged up and I was too paranoid to ever get them again =/. Earrings on guys are fine as long as it's not over flashy

Even my wife only gets a say where the cost is involved on that stuff, and I don't tell her what to do or not to do with piercings and the like either. Only in the worst of scenarios will I rag on any body modification, like the blatantly senseless.

Should they be found wanting, weak, and lack the courage to end themselves before they impede the progress of the whole, then I will step in and steel them as I am their foundation, father, and lord. I might be exceedingly lucky compared to most, but my nail breaks have never been an ordeal. They pretty much always shear off along the distal edge and I'm just left with a small amount of remains that will require trimming. My clippers for the most part only see action when asymmetry or scratchiness pop up. Do not see why people equate long nails to poor sanitation. From what I've observed of a fair number of individuals, both sexes, with short/trimmed nails often have weird, grimy deposits under their nails that I have never found myself experiencing. I do not know whether it was due to those people digging manually or not washing their hands more than once a month, or whether it is due my increased surface area makes it less likely for moisture and dirt to collect under my nails. I can't be arsed to take the science approach, what with the due long term observations and extensive surveying, to determine what makes my hands at least appear cleaner to 35% of the "mundane" folk. Maybe it also helps that I do not: Shove my fingers into ears, nose, and mouth out of boredom Confuse wiping one's arse for deep exploratory, excavation that I feel only requires a single layer of toilet tissue to serve as a buffer zone Actually "dig in" when it is time to feed Only irritation that I've found myself experiencing from them is that every now and then some women will feel the need to inform me that they are jealous or wish they could grow theirs out so long. They're just nails, not a feat of strength and death defiance, how hard could it be? Also, nothing beats the alien sensation of feeling keys on your finger tips after several weeks of nail growth has vanished.

apart from having one hand long for guitar, I view long nails as a sign that: A. The person cares significantly more about personal appearance than comfort and practicality. This is unattractive. B. The person is too lazy to properly take care of their body.this is also unattractive.

I always felt my longer nails were always cleaner than my shorter ones, for that very reason before I just decided to stop cutting them. Even then, when I tried getting better at classical, I prefered short fingernails, could never do the long fingernails thing.
