There should also be a poll for number of guitars owned by TL members. I'm sure quite a few people here have got plenty of guitars.

I personally own 5:
Fender Squier - my first electric guitar. I keep it around for sentiments; the pots & dials aren't that great.
Di'giorgio - my first guitar and my first acoustic classical guitar. I learned first on this guy, and keep it for sentimental value.
Northland - acoustic steel-string. $60 that plays like a $400, but no pickups so I can't use it on stage. It feels great and sounds okay.
JM Custom Strat - my main electric that you can see me use on the video on the first page of this thread. 2.1k but I'm never getting rid of it.
J-45 Custom - my main acoustic, image earlier on. 2.5k and it sounds beautiful.

How about everyone else?

I just started learning my first electric guitar like 2 weeks ago. It's an ESP EX400BD edition model which I got a great deal on. Learning the guitar is pretty hard though!

These three are the guitars that live in my room:

Left: Martin Guncase/Back Packer acoustic
Middle: 15-20 year old Yamaha I picked up at a Pawnbrokers for £50, they didn't realise it was actually a good guitar!
Right: Epiphone that my dad bought me when my old Strat got broken

between myself and my dad we have 14 guitars, he only ever plays one lol and I only use 4 of them

Have you ever tried using a bug mic on that steel string? It consists of a flat pad that attaches to the body of the guitar and a short lead that you plug your jack in to, not sure how well they would work on that type of guitar, but they are very effective on most acoustics.

also have a mexi telecaster, knockoff les paul with stupid high action for slide, fender showmaster, and a shit ibanez with emgs (ew, don't buy EMG's unless your guitar is made from the wood of your backyard deck. if you have guitar with decent quality wood then you need to treat it with some nice passives to bring out the woods tone. can buy some 200 dollar POS and put EMG's in it if you want super scooped terrible tone for metalcore)

pictured here is a fender vintage strat and a ~30 or 40 year old yamaha red label. I have a martin too, however I don't keep that with me at college

I can imagine the Martin stays somewhere safe lol. That Yamaha looks in good condition for such an old guitar tho!

Haha, yea. I'm not certain the model of the martin, but it belonged to my grandfather; so it's not leaving home until I have a real house. The fg-150 my father bought many years ago, played a lot when he was younger then had in storage for a ~decade or two. He gave it to me around six years ago and I've been extremely careful with it. Right now I tend not to touch my acoustics that much, however, as I lack a mic of any sort (and I've fallen in love with my phrase recorder...)

Wow, if it was ur grandfathers then make sure to take care of it, and make sure its insured, they can be worth literally anything from $500-6,000 depending on condition and model..... get it evaluated!

If you are going to buy a strat, make sure its an American strat, not one of the cheapy foreign ones.... they simply don't sound the same and aren't made half as well. A strat is one of those guitars that is iconic for a reason ;p

edit: anyone here own an acoustic strat? I've been thinking of buying one for years but I've never had the balls to buy one in case it sucks.....

Hmmm... I have 200-300 dollars to dish out on an acoustic actually. Been using a friend's (really) old guitar for a while, the action is wayyyyy too high >.>

I've been goofing around on acoustic guitars for 2~3 years, but I've been studying classical/flamenco style for the past nine months, and it's sooo difficult T_T. The guitar I use is an Alvarez RC-10, not the greatest guitar, has a wide neck and a bit high tension, but it has nice warm tone and good for beginner to intermediate players.

Also, sight reading music is a bittttttch T_T... why couldn't Villa-Lobos write in tabs.... hehehe.

Anyone have any experience in jazz guitar? I would love to apply jazz harmonies and techniques to classical guitar

This thread has a disturbing lack of Jacksons.

My current guitar, it's a Warrior WRXT (color's different but w/e). I didn't really like it at first, so I wouldn't recommend it if you aren't gonna work on it; the pups it came with were these really tinny passive Duncan Destroyers, and the stock bridge (some kind of licensed Floyd Rose, not original) didn't hold its intonation with whammy use. I dropped in EMG 81/85's and a Schaller bridge, though, and it became an absolute beast.

The EMG's especially are highly recommended if you play metal, they're pretty expensive (like $200 for the set) but it's a purchase you won't regret if you're still running stock pickups. You can get away with passives if you're playing some of the older styles (I'm pretty sure Dave Mustaine was using Seymour Duncan passives back in the 80's), but if you really want to rip, actives are the way to go.

If nobody knows this, an excellent back track site is www.guitarbt.com

Really good! Make sure you click the 'download' section, and if nothing shows up, click the 'download' button again.

Right now, I'm playing an Agile Hawker through a now dead vypyr, and in the meantime until I get around to grabbing a Bogner Alchemist, I play into Guitar Rig. [image loading][image loading]

And to try and edge this thread a bit away from pure guitar porn, how did everyone get into guitar? What's your story that lead you to this wondrous instrument?

I am to inform you that this thread specifically specified to only talk about CLASSICAL or ELECTRIC guitars. This classifies as neither.

It's a guitar thread. He plays guitar. Don't nitpick. Everyone who plays guitar is probably welcome. And for the record, he could play classical music on his guitar, OR he could plug it in... and that would technically make it an electric.

Heh, I agree with you on the explorer, I dig the looks, and I used to really think of it as the holy grail of guitars. However, it has grown kind of like, old. The model looks too much 60 ish in my opinion. The idea is great but its just too round, and the hardware is too old in both looks and sound imo. So what I wanted to say is, when I went to buy my first real good guitar (had one crap and one mid model) I tried out many of them and the one I really loved the most for both looks and sound is the ESP LTD ex400. It sounds freaking amazing with its active pickups that generate just that much more clarity than any other guitar with passive pickups, and sounds really heavy and tight. Then there's the looks. On the picture it might not look that great, but when you see it for real, you'll be sold right away I think. It really looks damn sexy and even the hardware, aside from sounding also looks as modern as it could be.

This is the holy grail for explorer lovers:

The original explorer is totally awesome too though but I wanted to share my story of my dream guitar!

PS it costs around 800 dollars

Wouldn't call it the grail, but I got one of those. It's really nice for a noob like me. The only swedish importer of the ESP/LTD models were my neighbour so I got a nice deal on it
