Has anyone here played a Maton before? They sound fantastic - more bassy than Martins IMO.

I don't play a ton ton, but when I do play I play mostly Linkin Park music. Videos and limitless (not to mention perfect) tabs can be found here: http://www.youtube.com/user/astatslpvids

That guy's a pure genius when it comes to music stuff, not to mention he's friggin hilarious at trashing his youtube haters

Yep. Don't own one though. Just played it for ages in the shop lol.

This is my guitar.. I use Martin medium strings. I've also got an old classical which I use only for some select songs.

If you are going to buy a strat, make sure its an American strat, not one of the cheapy foreign ones.... they simply don't sound the same and aren't made half as well. A strat is one of those guitars that is iconic for a reason ;p

edit: anyone here own an acoustic strat? I've been thinking of buying one for years but I've never had the balls to buy one in case it sucks.....

Hmm. Do you happen to know if the Telecasters sound great? I have been using a Les Paul for quite a few years now but it just isn't the shredder that I had hoped for.

Hi. I haven't played guitar seriously in a few years and wanted to get back into it. Any suggestions for something acoustic and chill? Kinda like this one:

This thread really makes me want to go get a new guitar. I'm very novice, and I have some sort of fender stratocaster, but I think I really dislike the feel of it. It seems like the strings just sit way too high up, if I try to lower them they rattle when I fret anything, I kinda feel like the curvature of the neck isn't great for what I'm trying to do... But I don't really know a lot about this stuff yet.

Maybe I should just go down to one of the stores around here and play around with one to figure out what I like, but I'm not really sure what I'm looking for. This must be how the people I help shop for cars feel

Oh my.... Now I gotta post my guitars :D. I have 3, but my favorite is my Vintage 69 Mustang (Red with white racing stripes) RH- LH modified ^________________^. I'll edit this post later and add pictures of my babies.

Good to see so many TL posters playing well. And Zapdos shredding lolz.

I have been playing guitar for 15 years and I don't really know that much about guitars, I know a lot about how to play them, but not much about brands or anything. To be honest, 90% of guitars sound identical to me.

I think Gretsch guitars look really awesome but I have never owned one... You sort of need to own one to really know how good they are. Also you can have some really shitty cheap guitars that sound great; the brand name really doesn't have much to do with it. The best brands make some really terrible guitars, but also some of the best ones too.

Another thing to note is used guitars are worth just as much or more as new guitars. As long as the electronics are still good and actual structure of the guitar (i dont mean the top layer or just the paint job, those can be scratched to shit and wont affect the value). The technology hasn't really changed much on how to build them.

I love fender guitars but i think their amps suck, I own three of them and I'm over it. Orange is the best company i'm convinced. Everyone good uses them I have noticed.

I have a telecaster and I love it... but it is a very solo oriented guitar because of the pickup it has. It has really heavy treble; its not a very good rhythm guitar in my opinion. If you notice Charles from the Pixies uses one as a rhythm guitar and it works well for that band but it really comes down to what type of sound you are goign for.

I play acoustic if i want a full band sound its kind of boring to play a tele on your own in your room but if youo even have a drummer with you you can make the Tele really fucking rocking

I'm about to buy my first guitar, a western. Should I buy one with, or without a cutaway

oh definitely get the cutaway. Then you can hit higher notes easier, I don't see the point of owning any other type. Im sure they sound a bit different but I can't tell the difference.

Totally have to add Schecter to that poll

Can't really get into Ibanez, bit surprised they're topping the list.

I prefer single coils to humbuckers. Buckers are great at what they do, but they're sort of a one trick pony compared to a single. Neat thread.

If its acoustic a cutaway honestly won't matter much IMHO especially if you're starting out, you will hardly ever use those frets on an acoustic, sure it's not a detriment to have it but I wouldn't really factor it in when making a purchase.

Yeah but everyone starts out so different, hard to say, it depends what kind of music you like which will dictate what frets you are playing a lot.

I enjoy styles like the Rhumba that don't need a pick. (see http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_L_MqdYfMkI)

really fun on acoustic.

I play a few tunes that I have written with a capo on the 9th fret. This one I really like, you alternate between C and G formations on your bass notes to hold the rhythm, and then i use my high strings to kind of "solo" on top at the same time. the awesome thing about 9th fret, is the frets are very small at that part of the guitar and are really easy to reach so you can make some really awesome chords that would really stretch the limits of your fingers higher up on the fretboard. I have really long fingers though maybe this only works so well for me.

Yeah I was kinda disappointed to not see Gretsch in the op's last poll . Airline guitars are funny, the ones like Jack White uses/used. They are pretty cool, and they started off as a cheap guitar back when they first came out, tells you what you need to know about guitars. If it sounds good, it is good.

Considering some of the greatest guitarists use them:

Paul Gilbert, Joe Satriani, Steve Vai, Andy Timmons, John Petrucci (at one point), Marty Friedmen.

I own a JS1200, and it is by far the best guitar i've ever played. I've always been able to pick up an ibanez electric and enjoy the feel of it. With the other companies, I need to break the 2k$ barrier to play a very good guitar.

Try the either the JEM, PGM, or JS models and i'm sure you will agree with me

basically its the only longer song i can really play :D
Playing for 6 years on my own now, just sometimes ill look into that really good "blues you can use"-book. I play a fender squier strat.
But anyway, anyone else pissed off at how some of the guitar tabs on, for example, ultimate-guitar are blocked because of copyright now? its so sad, its not like the music industry would be losing a penny because theres tabs of a song in the web. or am i wrong?
