So I've had these night time correctional lenses called Ortho-k for about 3-4 years. The concept is that you wear the hard RGP lenses while you are sleeping and it is supposedly suppose to correct your vision to point that you are able to see 20/20 without the contacts during the day. I was just wondering how many TL'ers here have tried this procedure and how well it works for them.
Now that I've recently started driving, every day I see halos/glares and I was wondering if anyone else had this same problem. Sometimes my vision is really clear and it is awesome but the chance of that is like 1 out of 7. Anyone here been having problems with this procedure and what kind of prescription do you have? I have slight astigmatism and I am -5.5 diopters in both eyes.
For those that are wearing glasses and have a prescription lower than -6.00, you might want to try this out if you are going to athletics because these things might make your life a lot easier.
So...if any TL'ers use this overnight correctional method, can you answer the poll below to see if it was successful to you and that you see lights with no star bursts or halos?
Poll: Ortho-kI wear glasses/contacts during the day. (39) 48% I see Halos and Starbursts at night (18) 22% I have 20/20 vision and everything is fine (17) 21% I do not need vision correction (7) 9% 81 total votes Your vote: Ortho-k (Vote): I see Halos and Starbursts at night (Vote): I have 20/20 vision and everything is fine (Vote): I do not need vision correction (Vote): I wear glasses/contacts during the day.

Did you notice any problems sleeping with the lenses? You've had them for a while so I guess I'm asking if you had any problems when you switched.

Im using ordinary hard lenses. (not the soft ones you change every month or something). Don't have that much problems with them. I only have like -2,-2.5 or something like that so it's not a really big correction. I'm considering night lenses but since I only have this set for like a year insurance won't cover for a while. What is your experience with the lenses.
My ordinary hard lenses get really annoying if i fall asleep with them. Is it any better with the night lenses ?
Also what do you mean with 20/20 vision ? Does this mean as good vision as with normal lenses ?
|
The lenses get really annoying for the first week. You don't feel them at all after your asleep but when I say 20/20 vision I mean with the overnight lenses because some people like me have trouble with halos and starbursts during the night. And I have no idea why even though I've talked to my optometrist about it many times. I've had these lenses for 4 years now and everyday I've had halos and starbursts off anything that reflects light such as LED's

Have you ever had normal hard lenses before you switched to these? I think it's pretty common for hard lenses since they dont actually cover the lens of the eye fully. So with the correction lenses this part is also not 'fixed' perfectly leading to the halo. With my current lenses I'm only really anoyed by it at night when driving a car. Looking at headlights nearing you is kinda a pain.

Yes I've had glasses and hard contacts before I switched to the Night therapy but my vision before was fine. Ever since I started the night therapy this started happening. I have problems looking at any kind of light at night. However, the smaller the light the bigger the halo...

Hmm that's a bit weird. Does actually having the night lenses in help against the halo or does it make no difference. Sounds like the fit might not be good enough. If they don't cover your lens well (or dont stay at the proper spot when you close your eyes) there might be a too large area uncovered.

Once I have the night lenses in everything is perfectly clear with no halos or starbursts. However, in the morning as soon as I take them off everything goes to hell.

I've been using Ortho K for the past 5ish years. It's been pretty good, no issues for me. It's pretty much hell during allergy season though

Eh can you guys put what prescription you are if you do use this?

Can't wait for my PRK surgery! Gonna shed my defective eyesight forever.

i wore these growing up (since about fifth grade) until about I was 18 at which i just swapped to regular hard contacts. they're pretty costly from what I remember, and although your vision is pretty good during the day without hard contacts, it starts to deteriorate in the late afterroon. I would say they're not really worth it, just get regular hards because your vision won't be good enough to drive in the later afternoon/night.
my vision is like -4.-4.5
hard contacts also retard myopia just as well as these contacts do, honestly i would just wear regualr contacts until you're old enough to get LASIK.
|
But when you wear regular hard contacts. If your playing sports or something doesn't it get really dry and like stick to the corners? When something gets in your eye like a little bit of dust it hurts like hell.
|
yea it sucks. i just dont really play any sports where that happens.

I've been wearing these for 6-7 years now since grade 5 (grade 12 now). I don't see halos and starbursts like this poll. Want to make an option that's applicable to me?
|
Uh you might just want to check the 20/20 vision is fine since that was suppose to be the original option but its a bit vague
