edsa revolution or the bloodless revolution, millions of people gathered to overthrow a dictator. (I was a baby when this happened) pretty much the start of democracy here and everywhere I suppose.
Rematch between Spassky and Fischer in 1992 in Yugoslavia, where Fischer was warned he would be arrested if he played by the US DPT of Treasury (The prize pool was 3.65m for the winner). Fischer was the first to 10 and won the match (10-5 with 15 draws). There are few pictures and even less video of the event because Fischer became agitated by even the hum of video cameras in operation, let alone pictures.
Fischer after being released from detention in Japan to seek asylum in Iceland to prevent being extradited back to the USA to be arrested (2005). At this point in his life he had extreme hatred toward Jews and was in poor health. He died on Jan 17, 2008.
Chris Hondros of Getty Images was with an army unit in Tal Afar on January 18, 2005, when its soldiers killed the parents of this blood-spattered girl at a checkpoint, and his photo was published around the world. Mr. Hondros was kicked out of the unit, though he soon became embedded with a unit in another city.
On March 16, 1988, After two days of conventional artillery attacks, Iraqi planes dropped gas canisters on the town. The town and surrounding district were attacked with bombs, artillery fire, and chemical weapons, the latter of which proved most devastating. At least 5,000 people died as an immediate result of the chemical attack and it is estimated that a further 7,000 people were injured or suffered long term illness.
Canadian WWI ace Billy Bishop. He recorded 72 enemy planes shot down and was a huge inspiration for not only the Canadian military, but the entire allied forces.

Meh, I'm sure if the OP wanted us to take the title literally he wouldn't have added descriptions in his post. Besides, some pictures cannot be appreciated until the context/story behind them is known to you. How about you post some pictures instead of trying to criticize the content?
@ skeldark
EDIT 2: @ jester- 1) its ok to add content for the the history background but when you must explain the hole pic i think its wrong here. 2) check the thread again...
I must apologize as I cannot find anything in this thread relating to what you are saying. Please, give me a link or quote that says we can only post pictures without explanation. While you are doing that, why don't you let me and the others here know why you are attempting to dictate the content of the thread? Maybe go make another thread if you don't like the stuff here...?

The line still spans another x3 folds back.
I don't believe that lining up for a library in China thing for a second. Call me racist, but I was born in China and raised in the west. Why would a library ever have a line? Does it not have enough space? Then the students would know that and not waste precious study time waiting unless they had to: eg something was left out like that their tests would take place in that library.
If they were really that devoted to studying, they'd be studying with a ski mask and gloves outside while waiting for the library instead of standing around.
From what I understand, some 30 years after the lander took the pictures on Venus, Don P. Mitchell took all of the recorded data and produced this image in B/W and the color one here.
