Crew-2 launch went off earlier today. I was dead to the world so I had to watch a recap. The vid below is a few minutes before launch.

And now it's in the coast phase

Just finished watching. This is some good information for the maneuver that SpaceX is attempting.

Blue Origin hasn't proved a damn thing yet with any of it's rockets yet, has it? SpX has Flacon Heavy it can always use (but I'm sure NASA wants to payload factor that Starship provides) and it's making significant headway on getting both Starship and SHeavy flying. I doubt they change any minds, especially once SpX starts making the "How many successful flights have you made lately?" claims. Proof is in the pudding, as they say.

How many people have you brought to the space station?

Its a complete joke. SpaceX has a plan to get to Mars that isn't crazy anymore and has become a source of pride for the nation.

As many as BO has. They also called NASA picking SpaceX "high risk", whatever that means. I think by the end of the year, Starship will be in orbit once they get the landing down. That'll probably take to SN18 though. I think they'll get close with SN15, go a bit higher with SN16, and then cap off an orbital flight with SN18 (SN17 will be used for Starship Heavy testing).

Another loss for Jeff Bezos and others.

The Federal Communications Commission approved SpaceX’s proposed modification of its Starlink satellite license on Tuesday, a win for Elon Musk’s growing broadband network despite objections from competitors including Amazon, Viasat, and others.

“We conclude that grant of the SpaceX Third Modification Application will serve the public interest,” the FCC wrote in the order. “Our action will allow SpaceX to implement safety-focused changes to the deployment of its satellite constellation to deliver broadband service throughout the United States, including to those who live in areas underserved or unserved by terrestrial systems.”

SpaceX filed the modification request a year ago, asking to move its first 1,584 satellites to an altitude of 550 kilometers. The FCC’s approval comes at a key moment for SpaceX, as the company has nearly 1,400 satellites in orbit and likely would have had to halt its rapid launch campaign if the FCC had not authorized the modification.

Starlink is the company’s capital-intensive project to build an interconnected internet network with thousands of satellites, known in the space industry as a constellation, designed to deliver high-speed internet to consumers anywhere on the planet.

Opponents filed numerous responses to SpaceX’s proposed modification, with companies including Amazon saying it would cause interference with other satellite networks. SpaceX’s competitors also argued the change was too significant for the FCC to treat it as a simple modification, saying it should instead be included in a broader processing round with new satellite systems.

The FCC dispute between SpaceX and Amazon spilled into public view in January, when Musk took to Twitter to allege that his competitor is attempting “to hamstring Starlink,” adding that Kuiper “is at best several years away from operation.” While Amazon has yet to announce when its first Kuiper satellites will launch, the FCC’s authorization of the system last year requires that the company deploy half of its planned satellites within six years. That represents Amazon deploying about 1,600 satellites in orbit by July 2026.

The regulatory agency denied the claims of signal interference in its approval of SpaceX’s modification.

“We further conclude that this modification does not create significant interference problems that would warrant treatment of SpaceX’s system as if it were filed in a later processing round,” the FCC wrote.

The FCC’s order includes a requirement that SpaceX issue a report twice a year that includes the number of Starlink conjunction events – meaning near misses with other satellites – in the past six months, as well as the number of Starlink satellites that were disposed of or re-entered the Earth’s atmosphere.

Sheesh. You have to wonder a bit, if this will really be what we're all hoping for. But this is great (Starlink, not the legal stuff) for underserved places. SpX is definitely changing the way we operate in space and I'm here for it. It's available here in Chicago (I think, need to check), but I don't need it atm. Maybe once it's 75% deployed and I have significant shares when they go public, I might grab one for my South American retreat.

Yo Bigelow.... might want to start using $$$ to lobby for one of those things to be funded. So you can start operations again.

seems perfectly normal to me. You don't want a contractor to spend a lot of money when the courts could cancel the contract and leave them to then sue for costs incurred.
