Shure 440 vs Sony V6 vs Senn 280 Pro vs HD555 (although I'm hesitant on open cans, I prefer no leakage)
Main concerns are comfort (I know the 555s win in this category) and isolation
Mainly for music (jazz and hip hop), movies, SC2, and a digital piano.
I'm heavily leaning towards the 440s
I've exhausted the Head Fi forums so just looking for any last advice/suggestions.
Thanks
I bought the Shure 440s. I haven't tried the HD555, but I did try the V6 (for very little) and the HD280 quite a bit.
I have only had the Shure's for 1 day so far, so I can't comment on quality a lot. They sound nice. The have decent bass, but not exaggerated bass. So if you are looking for something in that way, you will have to pick other headphones.
I like their fit. They are more comfortable that the HD280 (those tired my ears after 2-3 hours of using them). These ones are easier on my head so far.
They look and feel solid, similar to the HD280's in that sense. Maybe a bit more solid.
im looking for a set of circumaural headphones for gaming and music. ive heard some good reviews regarding the audio technica ad700, but have heard that they are pretty "bass light". since the most bassy stuff i will be listening to will probably be melodic trance, it will probably be good enough?
wondering if you guys have any opinions on this/recommend any similar headphones?
The AD700s take some getting used to, they have a lean and analytical kind of sound that is light on bass quantity as you said. It is however very very comfortable and a generally good performer if you don't exclusively listen to bass-heavy music, plus it performs well for gaming too. The M50s also from Audio-Technica comes to mind for a different kind of sound at a decent price point.

There are fairly portable amp options that will fit in the average pocket while still doing a good job of driving most headphones, but the models that you are interested in do not particularly require amping. Do tell us how you find your new purchase

Extremely flat/neutral open headphones, anyone? I want a pair of open headphones with a very open sound, but with a flat curve and very honest response on all frequencies, just for mixing. No muddy/aggressive/exaggerated bass please. I can spend $200, but a pair of cans that go for $200 in the US are probably in the vicinity $250-300 here. T_T

Not sure if there considered enthusiast headphones (guessing no for sure) I would recommend nobody buy Steel Series 7H's as I've had mine for six months (babying them like hell btw) and they have still managed to screw me over. First I was changing the ear covering from the fake leather ones to the mesh style ones and two of the little cheap ass plastic tabs holding the covers onto the headphones broke and fell into the "shell" or "housing" of the headphones and I had to buy a small enough screwdriver to get them out.
After all that two days ago after having them for 10 months the right ear went out all the way unless both earpieces are almost touching. I'm returning them under warranty for a new pair but I've heard so many bad stories on these and the two main ones right there happened to me. Stay away from Steel Series 7H headphones, there not worth the 150$ at all (including cheap ass USB connector lol).
ok guys, some of you are making me very jelly indeed... and while atm I'm rocking some Razer Carcharias... I got these just becasue they are BOSS
1st My Limited Edition So-Me designed WESC on-ear headphones; They are insane looking... and So-Me is one of my fav artists... they are not for everyone but they look insane and sound pretty good... though granted I'm no audiophile and don't pretend to be
Then there are my pride and joy, my Bang & Olufsen U70's I just love the look of pretty much all of B&O's stuff from the 70s-80s and while its totally design over function they still look cool as fuck... I just wish there current hardware was up to the standards they set in the 70s and 80s.

interested in this as well. my current sonys are falling apart and the slightest touch on the cable transfers over to a large dull pop sound. i accidentally bump the cable a lot, and i don't want any noise to carry over from this. budget ~$50.

A lot of the Meelectronics IEMs would probably fit the criteria.

I'm going to guess that Sennheiser HD 600 is out of budget, since it's not even close to $200 here. I think Audio Technica ATH-AD900 would likewise be out of budget. Maybe AKG K601?
guys, need help here. I just replace my AKG 81DJ with an ATH-M50s straight cable and its so far a good choice toi made :D.
Now I want to send my AKG81DJ back to my brother (grade 7th) but the earbuds need to be replaced. I have no clue how do you replace an AKG earbuds... i heard they sell parts of the headphones seperately but i cant find it on their website... So how do i purchase a couple of earbuds for my sweaty brother? Is there an AKG part shop or any similar size earbud that i could just buy and install them on?
I'm using a pair of bose headphones i can really recommend them if you like listening to hip hop/party music the base in these is insanly good for the size, quite expensive though
Open box: + The box is designed simple and clean, nothing much into it. + Includes: Headphone, bag(kinda small for headphone this big), warranty card and instruction paper. + It surprised me when i first look at the headphone: OMFG ITS NOT 3.5 jacket... Took me 1 minute to find out that the jacket was attached to the headphone using a screw driver design kinda thing. So far so good.
First look: + Big! Compare to my portable AKG81DJ this is a real monitor headphone :D. + Surprised me how soft the pads are, wearing this headphone feels like your ears and top head is being covered with pillows in your dream bed. Had it on for ~10 hours the first day and its not really hot as people thought it could be. In fact if i take it out i will just noticed a slight temprature change on my ears and thats all.... Well i live in Canada so if you are in tropical weather i cant guarantee anything :D. +Cable is LONG omg. according to the box its 3.5 metters o.O(11'). I could drag this babe around my room, turn off and on the light while listing to streams just fine. Down side is that it make the headphone slightly heavier to the left if you planning to travel with this bad boy (which i do fyi). The cable it self is big like a laptop recharger cable so you could do that math. +The jacket has really nice design. Powerful metal and spring at the cord make me think this headphone gona last me at least another 2~3 years or so. +Again, the headphone is REALLY comfortable.
Sound quality: +Noise isolation is not that impressive but tose big buds reduced leaking to minimum. +Since i only have my AKG K81DJ to compare to, i gota they it sounds just fine. The bass is lower but i have heard people complain about the high bass of the K81 before so im not that disappointed even though i like high bass better. +I run some test on different type of sounds:
Everything was run without amp as well as EQ and the result is great.
If there is a downside to this headphone, I would said that its too comfort. I got used to how the K81DJ clamped to my head with such force that block every sound surrounding me so this M50s is just a sugar pillow around my head. I tried to press it to my head using my hands and the sound quality clearly improved a level. It doesnt even hurt when you do that bc the ear bud is just too thick for you to feel anything.
Conclusion: An expensive replacement for my AKG K81DJ but its a worthwhile choice. If i have to recommend any amateur want to try audiophile stuff, I still have to go with K81DJ as my 1st choice bc of the price (~50$) but my 2nd choice would definitely be this ATH-M50s. GL to all who looking for a headphone
P/s: I still looking for my K81DJ buds replacement... google shows nothing x(
I am still using HD202's. It seems I am missing out quite a bit. I use a desktop mic so that isn't needed on my headphones. HD280 worth the upgrade or...?
@above - i would definitely recommend an upgrade from the 202s, are you looking for something with the same bassy sound signature or something else? open/closed?
Ordered a pair of meelectric m9s, reviews compared them to my previous klipsch s4s at a 1/4 of the price so figured it was a good gym replacement. should be in tomorrow.

<3 m50s, i would have gone for the coiled cable though! You'll notice the bass improves quite a bit as you go on, around 20-30 hours or so.
m9's just came in, out of the box the bass is positively delicious although the high end seems rather hollow compared to my klipsch s4s. overall a wonderfully servicable gym earbud for 20$
