Fidelity website Seems like for the price they offer decent value for money and have recieved a few good reviews but didn't turn up a great deal about them. Plus side for me is the replaceable wires that connect into the drivers themselves. Plan to use them for general use going here and there, and listen to pretty much everything so looking for a pretty flat range. Sad to see me SE201s near the end of their lives after 3 years but wondering if these ones may be a suitable replacement ^^

Thanks. I love my Shure's, the bass is neutral and rather tuneful. If you are a basshead then you will want to look elsewhere, if you want well-rounded sound with colourful bass and comfort you will be extremely happy with the Shure 840s.

I was using a roccat cave headset with a soundblaster xtremegamer soundcard. Headset was pretty new but the soundcard was old as hell. All of my music was in mp3 format (lowest quality was 192kbps). Now that I think about it.. god damn, thats terrible. First thing I upgraded was my music library. Turned everything to flac'd cd's and vinyls. Some songs were MAJOR upgrades, other I couldn't tell at the time. Second upgrade was my soundcard. I got a xonar d2x and MAN was it also a huge upgrade. No more having to fuck with the EQ or bass reverb or anything. Shit sounded good on my speakers (some 50$ things with a subwoofer) and my roccat cave without having to mess with anything. Then I was referred to audiophile grade headphones by a friend of mine. He swore up and down on beyerdynamic's lineup so I did research. Apparently the 5.1 surround sound was terrible (i knew I blew out the bass on them) and i couldn't really hear the difference on a mp3 of 192 vs 320. So I decided to get the dt 880 pro's for my birthday (250 ohm resistance) At first I couldn't appreciate how nice these things were. Sure sound was different switching from 5.1 to stereo. Well overtime I started noticing things. I could hear people take gasps of breath before singing, I could hear the different instruments play the music. My music was not longer muddled by shitty headphones. One last thing bothered me though. These headphones didn't have a lot of bass in them. I read reviews and did a bunch of research and everyone just basicly said "the bass is tight and not fat on these, something you have to have a taste for in order to appreciate". Wtf does that mean? shitty bass even though everything else is amazing? The answer was an amp. My xonar d2x soundcard couldn't drive my headphones properly. That same friend told me about a cmoybb amp from ebay and said he loves his. Its got a built in bass booster and some pretty high quality parts for a cmoy. So I bought that and now here I am. Bass is amazing (with bassboost off, with it on its even more ridiculous xD) and everything is crystal clear. Now when I hear music out of anything else my ears scream to me that they want my headphones and not whatever I'm listening to. Never really a fan of the beatles but damn do they sound good at 44khz/24 bit out of my setup ![]()

The Denon headphones my brother has he loves, and i hate because all i hear is an unnatural amount of bass bass bass drowning everything.

![]() Probably one of the better investments in my life. I've talked to people that have been using them for 12+ years, and the way they feel in my hand and handle in general, I'm very inclined to believe that. Add to that that there's pretty much no contenders in their price-class (bought them for 210 USD) concerning sound quality / portability.

I got mine a few weeks ago, but the spiral cord ones. These bad boys are freaking awesome. :D I'm so glad I chose them over a Sennheiser HD 598.

What I was trying to say is that when I didn't have these things amped, there was litterally no bass to them and I didn't know what was wrong. It was so recessed within all of the songs I played that I could tell something wasn't quite right.

I'm an electrical engineering student, so I know a lot about electronics and such, so the research is going fairly well, but I'm looking for a good place to talk to some other DIYers about this, since headwyze has been dead for years, I haven't really found another decent place to talk about my design ideas... Anyone here know much about amp design? I'm looking at possibly modifying the design for the A47 a bit, possibly even looking at getting a low voltage tube in there... Of course, my knowledge of tubes is REALLY weak, so I really don't know much about how to work in a tube into that design...
