hi ShearZerg
I had a pair of those a while ago. They were my first nice headphones (oh shit, like a decade ago). They sounded amazing, sold me on quality gear, but were also uncomfortable. I understand you can mod them with new earpads. As far as durability, I broke mine kinda, the ear phone part has a little metal cylinder above it to connect it to the band -- I broke the cap off one of the cylinders. This isn't really a big deal as duct tape would do the trick just fine, or just finding a new rubber cap would work fine and look fine as well. As far as the actual function, I treated mine poorly and traveled a lot, and that's the only issue I had before I gifted them away after about a year and a half.
For the same purpose I would suggest Audio Technica M50s, they fold inward which would take up little space and protect itself. They are unfortunately twice as much, though.

I am however a little worried about the durability (they definitely don't look like the most substantial things ever built). I tend to carry headphones around in a stuffed backpack.
Has anyone had these for a while and attest to how well these should hold up under those conditions.
Thanks. I have the SR-80s which are exactly the same in structure, slightly different internals though. They hold up fairly well. I only had two problems:
-Wire tends to get twisted a lot. It got bad to the point where the left cup stopped working, and I had to splice cables together to make it work. -I fell asleep in an awkward position on an airplane and very slightly bent the jack. Heh.

I previously said I wanted something in the $100-$200 range... ended up ordering DT880's and a Fiio E7. We'll see how it is... heh.
I finally fixed my SR-80's though... yay.

32 ohms version? If you got one of the other ones, don't expect peaks above 105 dB SPL or so.

Looking for a headphone recommendation. I am replacing a pair of Bose headphones (same ones Day9 has). I will only be using these headphones at the office so I want a pair that will not leak sound if I am rocking out but if I have the volume low I want to be able to hear if someone is walking up (Gotta close my SC vods before the boss man sees ^^). Having rich bass is more important to me than having super clear high end if I have to choose between the two. Another guy at the office has the Sennheiser 555s and I gave them a listen. I liked the way the highs and mid sounded but the low end wasn’t strong enough for me. I am looking to spend 150-200 but I will spend more if there is something out there that will give me everything I want.
I tried reading through the thread to get some ideas but the only thing I found out was that I don’t know dick about headphones lol. Any help is appreciated

The website says it uses a topology with no feedback (!!!). They're at least very upfront saying that such a design won't "please the meters" i.e. the output should be measurably inaccurate compared to the source material. The claim is that this can make the sound better, which of course is subjective so I won't dispute that, particularly not without hearing it. There are other popular amps using such a design.
Ok did some corresponding.
1) Someone uses 20 or 24ohm Shure IEMs with the same setup as me and says he has the volume at about 10 o clock (on my 55ohm AKGs putting these on my ears at this volume would be scary) to get where he likes it. I don't get it.
2) Someone else mentioned special ordering reduced gain when he ordered his from the mfr to better deal with more sensitive headphones. Mfr says it can be done by replacing four resistors on the circuit board.
3) My problem of volume not controlling the amp is not how it's supposed to be, or at least not how it is for others, peculiarly.
Gonna talk to the reseller and see if I can get the resistors replaced at a reasonable cost. If not I might order a new one direct from china and sell this one.

Help me out guys :D
Shure 440 vs Sony V6 vs Senn 280 Pro vs HD555 (although I'm hesitant on open cans, I prefer no leakage)
Main concerns are comfort (I know the 555s win in this category) and isolation
Mainly for music (jazz and hip hop), movies, SC2, and a digital piano.
I'm heavily leaning towards the 440s
I've exhausted the Head Fi forums so just looking for any last advice/suggestions.
Thanks

Can anyone tell me if theres noticeable audio lag with bluetooth headphones while watching video?
Im sick of these wired headphones (currently have Sennheiser Pmx 60) cords always getting caught on stuff and the wire getting wrecked.

I got Sony Mdr 7506... absolutely phenomenal monitor couldn't be happier especially at the ~$100 price point

i was hoping someone could help me out. im hoping to find a set of headphones that are comfortable when sitting back around your neck. i own steelseries siberia v2, logitech g35 and sennheiser pc350. none of them wrap around my neck comfortably when i push them back off my head (i do this often because i frequently stop to talk to people or let my head breathe a bit lol). can anybody have a recomend?

What dac and/or amp are you guys using?

I just resoldered some wires on my headphones today Inhaled iron oxide and probably got cancer doing it too. But it was totally worth it.
edit: it's always weird when decafchicken posts after me. Also the headphones broke again. *sigh* I'm gonna try again this summer to fix them. Then when they break again, I'll use this thread to find new ones.

looking to order a new pair of IEMs today/soon as my image s4s are capping out on me and its killing me at work and in the gym. looking for something 20-50$ with good durability, not a lot of static when the cable gets touched (for working out), and a warmer sound (mostly trance/hip hop). any help is appreciated!

I really like the sound of the sennheiser CX-300's. However, they do have a bit of that cable noise. Try clipping the wire to your shirt, it helps a lot.

Hey, sorry to bump this but I found some really cool looking old headphones today while cleaning out the garage. So, can any of you enthusiasts shed some light on these bad boys?

I think I spent too much time drooling over the AKG k701, HD600, DT880s...
It seems like these cost already around 300$ and amping them properly costs at least the same price... Or is this just head-fi.org users who seem never satisfied?.
Currently though im using the ATH A700 and they are quite nice for the price. I'm connecting this directly into my laptop 3.5mm jack though so I guess sound quality probably isn't the best. I reckon I wont need an amp for this right?

i just jumped from unamped sr80s to amped (fiio e7/e9 combo) dt880s.
i feel like that there is definitely improvement, but i'm not sure it's worth the cost... at least for me. i also have to download high quality music now because if i listen to a 128 kbps mp3 it sounds horrible. i'm not sure that ath-a700 to dt880 will make as big a jump as you think.
i think you really just have to listen to it. reviews look great but... you really need to put it over your ears. the jump from generic brands to sr80 was like 10 times bigger than sr80 to amped dt880s for me.

Thanks for the input. I won't be making a purchase anytime soon, as I feel like i already overspent on a new computer and peripherals ^^. However, maybe in a couple of years I will reconsider
I feel like the problem with enjoying audiophile-grade equipment is, to properly go up a notch in sound quality, every component has to be of relative same quality, as the weakest component brings down the rest. You end up having to spend a ton making sure you have the right amp, dac, and good source (im broke?). Im pretty sure that if you have a good setup, everything will sound as heavenly as some people portray it...but at what price ?
Im reading through some of the reviews and people talk about amps like the heed canamp which drives the k701 pretty well....but costing like 500. But then, if I want to enjoy music while on my PC, im going to need a DAC for that...there goes couple hundred.
What I see is plenty of people buying "cheaper" equipment, but once they crave for that tiny bit more, they end up having to upgrade their whole setup once more, and end up spending thousands in total. It would be nice if I could go out and test the equipment for myself for hours at a time, but im not quite there is a place to do so where I live.
TLDR: thanks for your input, its interesting to hear from someone who has made an upgrade at the price point I was refering to. Maybe its just me, or the fact that my family has some decent speakers at home, but although I enjoy the sound my A700s make, I do find speakers just as enjoyable.

Well, I am not an audiophile by any means, but I have the 750DJs, and I think that they are an OK pair. You will get what you pay for in terms of open/closed headphones, and I'm sure that my friends Senn 650s sound much better, but if you're looking for a nice portable pair I would recommend the 750s. If you want to stretch the budget by a bit AND have an amp, the 840s are a very good choice.
