![]() I just ordered a pair of HD 558s. Do i need anything to go with em to make them sound good? im not an "audiophile" so i dont need that last 5% of sound quality that normally is the extra 100% in cost. Just wanting to get good, quality sound out of my pandora/games/movies.

![]() Just got these (ATH-A700) in the mail today with a Asus Xonar DG soundcard (has onboard headphone amp) and a zalman clip on mic for skype and omg, if you are considering this setup, GET IT NOW! I was a little worried that there wouldn't be much of a difference in my everyday listening but it really is night and day, even without focusing on it. After a little adjusting in the soundcard control panel they sound even better too and are absolutely killing all the dubstep/rock songs I am throwing at them. Get them!

wow, world of difference. 600 ohms is soooo much better. it's also cheaper. i still have the sr80's on hand, but after using the dt880's i can really notice the comfort difference. i have the fiio e7/e9 setup but i'm really not liking the e7. there's some hiss/noise when played at a low volume that occasionally outputs in only one cup. =(

Fortunately, my birthday is coming up soon, and I'm trying to decide on a new pair of headphones for that occasion. So, TL, help me out here! Key Factors:
How about it? Are there any suggestions from you guys? EDIT: After a bit more searching around, I came across a product from Audio Technica, the ATH-M50 headset. They seem to be pretty damn close to what I'm looking for, but you guys know more than me about this sorta stuff. Are these headphones a product you would recommend?

Do any of you guys have any suggestions? Mind you I want earplugs, my budget is around $120. Thx in advance! <3 What particularly are you looking for in terms of build (curved jack, straight jack, L jack, and other types of things), sound quality, etc.? I'm not that familiar with IEMs, but you can start looking here: http://www.head-fi.org/forum/thread/478568/multi-iem-review-182-iems-compared-soundmagic-e30-blue-ever-blue-866b-added-7-06 There's a comparison table at the bottom. I wear glasses to wearing these for an extended period could potentially be an issue. Anyone else have other recommendations? Just FYI to make sure you know, the ATH-AD700 is generally the much more popular model. The ADxxx are open (no noise isolation in or out at all), while the Axxx are closed. Both series tend to clamp fairly lightly and probably work well with reasonably-thin glasses frames, though I haven't tried the A700 so I'm not sure about that particular one. I don't think it typically should have low level noise (or channel balance) problems. You should ask about a replacement. On July 14 2011 09:55 Aeres wrote: How about it? ATH-M50 is very popular, but we're used to seeing the price more like $110. I dunno what's up now. Something larger, even more tanklike, and with better isolation is the Beyerdynamic DT770 Pro 80 ohms. The bass on both these headphones is higher than average for headphones, particularly the DT770, so that may be what you're used to or looking for? (though a little less bass in quantity--not to be confused with quality--than the Solo I think) http://www.amazon.com/Beyerdynamic-Pro-80-Closed-Studio-Headphones/dp/B0016MNAAI

Hyping a wireless product on a gaming forum, this will probably not work out to well. Oh well. I really can't see myself going back to a normal pair of headphones after this. The flexibility wireless comes with is insane. I really can't notice a delay, even if I try really hard. Neither is it possible to get static or similar. Volume is great, excellent for gaming and they play all my rock/chill music excellently. Perhaps not the best headset for audiophiles. But for the regular user, they're far beyond enough! I never have to take them off, wherever I am at home, I can listen to my music! They are really comfortable as well. Never had any comfort problems, even though I have them on for up to 12 hours sometimes. Standard AA batteries, lasts 24 hours without recharging. BUY THEM!

Gaming: Razer Carcharias. The cheapest of my 3 headphones, but I really like the way this works. No complaints really. + Show Spoiler + ![]() Live Music: Drums are really, really loud, so this was a huge investment for me. I went with the JH16 earbud monitors, and I use some industrial grade noise canceling muffs over top. Best money I have ever spent. + Show Spoiler + ![]() Regular Headphones: Currently using the Sony DR-BT50 bluetooth headphones. Retiring my grado's was a tough decision for me, but no wire on the morning subway rides = winning + Show Spoiler + ![]()

Edit: I love bass! Forgot to mention that... Also, I don't know what the difference between "open cans" or closed is. If anyone can clarify, I'd appreciate it! I did some reading and if I understood correctly, open cans make headphones sound loud to people around you. This would be a nono for me ![]() Edit#2: Noise canceling would be nice since I have to use these to "concentrate" in an environment that is very distracting, but this feature seems to make headphones alot more expensive. I'm having a real hard time choosing headphones since I'm a newbie. I'm willing to spend up to $150, but only if $150 is higher than 5% quality than lets say $100. I need cheap and great headphones. I was going to get a headset until I started reading on how overpriced the headsets are for the sound they offer compared to real headphones. I'll deal with the mic getting a clip on or something. Thanks!

ATH-AD700 is pretty light on bass as well, so double no for you. Also look at the Shure SRH840. If you're looking for lots of BASS, the Sony XB500 and XB700 are way under budget but maybe worth considering too.

Aside from the discomfort near the headband area, the earcups are really comfortable. It feels as though your ears are surrounded by marshmellows and you can have them on for hours once you get used to the pain from the top. Sound wise, the Shure840s are pretty neutral, so don't expect anything big. They are very clear when I'm listening to music and the bass is sufficient for me. One feature I like about the Shure840s is that the audio jack(cord) is detachable from the headphones, so I can store it away when i'm done using them and simply plug them back in if I want to use them again. Overall, I think the Shure840 is a great buy. They are around the $150 in the U.S, from amazon. If you're looking for more bass heavy headphones, I'd recommend staying away from the Shures but instead. going for the Audio technica athm50s. Did I mention that the cord that comes with the Shure840s are coiled? Not really a con, but I thought that I should mention for people who don't like it.
