I think the only way to see if it is worth it for YOU would be to go into a hi-fi store and listen to them. Bring a CD of your preferred music and take some time to listen to a few songs on both 595 and 650, then decide.

They fit well (in my small ears atleast), have decent sound and a two year unlimited warranty. So if you keep the receipt you have decent sound for ~2 years. I used went through a few pairs (i think i used that model for 5 years or so) and was happy untill i felt the urge for something better. I liked them. I think some models have bass-amplification - dont get those. mmm yeah they might be something. There's also CX400 G4ME i've seen. Don't know how good they are though. Gonna use them for playing/listening to music and also while being outside. Im not a cheap bastard so maybe i'll invest in a couple of better ones even if i first said if wouldn't pay much. Wanna have good sound if im outside so. I'll consider maybe buying some of better quality. Thx for your help btw.

First off. Don't misunderstand the purpose of amplifiers. I'm sure that Myrmidon has more knowledge than me on this topic, and I wont presume to know more. He definitely has a wealth of knowledge accrued through research or some method of experience. The Bose QC3 are overpriced. Their sound quality is bad for their price, which is why they are called overpriced. Bose is known for great active noise cancellation. The inverse sound waves (or whatever the technical term is) that cancels out the outside noise interferes with the music reproduction of the headphone, which is bad for fidelity. In my opinion, the best amplifiers should be transparent, meaning it should have no significant impact on sound quality albeit providing the power necessary to fuel the headphones. The QC3 do not need an amplifier because a portable DAP or any source should be fine. And for the marginal difference it might make, it's not worth it. @Milkis This may be off topic, but when I saw this website. Northwesternrejects.com Edit: What the heck? Apparently even uchicagorejects.com has been taken down. :[ Anyways go Wild Cats rofl. Thanks lot :D

Atm I have SB audigy and Sennheiser PC 360 I mostly listen to classical music and rock. I will be upgrading to Xonar essense in terms of soundcard. From headphones I expect good sound quality, isolation is not so important as I will be using it mostly at home but comfort is a must for long hours of use. Which headphones around 200 Euros would you recommend to go with it? (Based on reading the thread I'm leaning towards Sennheiser hd598, although I could get something more expensive if i go for cheaper version of Xonar)

It was viral a year or so ago so the domain just expired since that joke is kind of passe now. Anyway, more impressions after 20+ hours of listening and swapping back and forth with m50s: m50s are actually a *really* fantastic pair of headphones. My HE500 + Amp is of course far better in terms of fidelity but m50s really does a good job delivering the sound. It misses a few details here and there, but at the same time, it does a pretty damn good job with most of the songs I've listened to. The closed sound stage of M50s does kind of bother me for some songs, but at the same time, I think having too much of a soundstage really makes some songs weird. Maybe this is more of me not completely used to it. Also I really want to try a new amp now... is there anything around ~200 that'll drive HE500s?

A few rare recordings are mastered for binaural (headphone) playback, and a lot of music may be mastered to kind of sound okay on both. But if you want to take matters into your own hands, there are hardware crossfeed circuits and lots of free software options to try, if you want. I like this foobar plugin: http://www.hydrogenaudio.org/forums/index.php?s=0cb1876f4870f4be7e5b8e97450ad7da&showtopic=90764&st=0 You can also look at this, which also adds reverb and some other things: http://www.head-fi.org/t/555263/foobar2000-dolby-headphone-config-comment-discuss You might not like any of that at all, or maybe you use it already? As for a sub-$200 amp, the Objective2 is popular these days. It can be bought here and a couple other places: http://www.jdslabs.com/item.php?fetchitem=O2Full At least with that you know what you're getting since the circuit is open-sourced, and there is plenty of documentation on the performance and design, if you can wade through the walls of text and figures: http://nwavguy.blogspot.com/2011/07/o2-headphone-amp.html#measurements http://nwavguy.blogspot.com/2011/08/o2-details.html#circuitdescription If you're passable with a soldering iron, you can put it together yourself for some savings. edit: I wouldn't be surprised if there were some issue with the NuForce Icon HDP running the HE-500, but I wouldn't assume that getting something else would really be a notable improvement. It also depends on how loud you're playing the headphones.

I guess it's just less noticeable on headphones where everything sounds like it's inside your head, but this is one of the legitimate weaknesses of using headphones to listen to sounds mastered with the intent of being played back on speakers. With speakers, some sound from the left speaker goes to the right ear and vice versa—the amount is less, and it depends on the frequency and your head/ear shape, and there's a time delay, so there's a lot going on. You don't get any of that L/R mixing together, with headphones on. Personally I might have purchased the Schiit, yes it's the Schiit, Lyr if I were going to purchase a pair of Orthodynamic headphones. Low impedance, but power hungry devils. For gaming they are quite nice, however for music I am looking for something in terms of more quality. Any recommendations for the price of around 100 - 150 euro ?

I read through the thread, and I saw that Audio-Technica seems to be recommended quite a bit, but was wondering if my needs and wants justified buying an Audio technica head set. And Anyways, this is my personal preferences:
Sorry if my post seems repetitive or my question has already been asked. Just I've lurked this thread before, and you guys seem like knowledgable people, so I came here to ask my question. ^-^ So what would be a good headphone for me? Oh, and thank you, oh headphone enthusiasts of TL, for steering me away from buying a "gaming headset." I read through the thread and was persuaded not to get a siberia V2.

The 650s are discontinued or they are planning to phase them out. Huge fanbase for the HD650s they are good headphones but I question if they are worth a $500 upgrade, maybe listen to them first properly and then make a decision. It's a lot of money :3
