These ones are very different, they don't look incredibly professional like a set of Alessandros but they're light and comfortable as well. I'm surprised that I don't hear about Beyerdynamic stuff more often.

I've used a ton of headsets and these easily have the best quality I've ever seen, as most 'gaming' headsets compromise heavily on sound quality, or just stick a subpar microphone into the side of them. These ones are very different, they don't look incredibly professional like a set of Alessandros but they're light and comfortable as well. I'm surprised that I don't hear about Beyerdynamic stuff more often. How is the mic? The headphone part should be like the DT 231 or DT 235, which I'm a fan of in that price range (about $50, so $80 for the MMX-2 isn't really a ripoff). Most people want something circumaural for home use though. Otherwise it seems the MMX-2 would be a common recommendation if you really need a headset. Take your pick between Denon AH-D2000 (going to be discontinued soon and replaced with something else) and AKG K550. I wouldn't listen to everything said here, but you can take a look at the graphs linked at the end of these reviews: http://www.innerfidelity.com/content/luscious-denon-ah-d2000-ah-d50000-and-ah-d7000 http://www.innerfidelity.com/content/wonderfully-competent-akg-k550-sealed-headphone

I'm thinking of getting a pair and hoping to get some feedback on the build/sound/etc since it's pricey in Canada.

What do you listen to? They work well for house or trance, not really for anything else imo. High end is very receded, Mids a little less so and the low end is great. Clarity and soundstage is below average. Build quality is excellent though, and isolation is great. They werent what I was looking for, I much prefer my cheaper IEMs (Atrios MG7 and Yamaha EPH-100) for electronic music. Good review here : http://www.headfonia.com/aiaiai-tma-1/

I know of a few, but additional input is welcome. Whats the sound signature are you looking for( Deep bass, warm mids, clear highs, that kinda stuff)? Its hard to suggest anything without actually having an idea of what you're looking for. I'm using a pair of Audio Technica, AD-700's, definitely one of the better headphones around that price range. I also heard that Sennheiser HD595 (well they're selling the HD598's now) are pretty nice too, but keep in mind that both of these are both open cans (meaning sound will leak in and out without any kind of isolation). Audio Technica ATH-M50's are worth a listen too, they are one of the most highly recommended headphones out there at around half your budget. I'm not too knowledgeable in bigass headphones and more into IEM's, so maybe some Monster Turbine Golds would work, some Miles Davis Tribute Jazz earphones are pretty good too, UE TripleFi 10's are definitely great considering its price range, just to name a few.
