i thought nothing was just being metro with them glasses.

I think I've seen something like this before.
+ Show Spoiler +
Personally I'm waiting for gamer socks and the gamer diaper for WoW players is already in production.
I thought the glasses that change their light in flow were cool but this just seems like a huge waste of money. I mean look at the glasses Day9 uses? They break and he holds them together with tape and he is A-ok :D
I mean I got a filco, abyssus, and a qck+ mousepad and even I think this is redic.

they dont light up with my APM?
lol, these are kind of hilarious.
i'd buy them for a lol, but you have no idea how they're going to look until u get them ^^
I really, really hope we'll see some of the pros from steelseries sponsored teams wearing these, hahaha
|
Well its still $100+ cheaper than my frames, not sold though.
|
I started using these glasses a week ago and my rating has gone up by 400 points. I used to be a complete scrub and was at around 1000 diamond, now i'm 1400! I attribute all success to the use of these glasses.

Designer frames cost way more than these. Steelseries is a kind of "designer". It's a brand and branded products cost more than generic stuff. It's the way the world works. No need to try to fight the man by dissing these glasses.
And for people who stare at a computer screen all day long, just the possibility of protecting your eyesight and preventing strain is great. My eyesight is terrible and if I could go back in time I would do almost anything to prevent the deterioration of my eyesight. (Putting in contacts everyday just isn't as convenient.)
Btw, nowhere does it say it increases your gaming skill.

My friend got these for free at WCG. Says they make you have less eyestrain. Probably not worth the price though.

I dont see how this product is going to make a difference in gaming. I mean really. Its not like shoes or other gear, they are glasses.....

It's a cool idea, but it's probably better to just give your eyes a break from time to time.

Glare reduction doesn't need to cost $100, you can easily solve the issue by setting up your computer in a better location. If you're having having actual troubles seeing certain things on the screen then it's probably better to talk to an optometrist about your prescription (because it isn't working or you need one) instead of buying placebo-effect snake-oil products. + Show Spoiler +Most regular prescription glasses come with glare reduction. Computer screens can come with glare reduction too. These things ostensibly cost more money then "gamer glasses" but are also purchases you're making anyway. Let me correct this please: Most regular prescription glasses come with Antireflective coatings , this prevent you from seeing reflections in the surface of the lens (the reflection of the screen in the lens that is in between) , giving you more comfort in general when looking at screens. the yellow filter can help in the comfort as it is a way for the user to cut the amount of blue visible light that the user is getting through the lens , the blue light is predominant in actual screens and is the "harder to see" for the human eye (in the old PC screens it was different and therefore we the optometrists used another kind of filter that it was called VTD) so if someone spends 8 hours a day working with computers and on top of that has hobbies related with computers (like djWHEAT) I'd definetely recommend an Amber filter or a Rose Filter on top of that. Stop bashing the glasses , theyre not a scam , sure you could also get a million other options at the optic store , but you should be informed by a professional before claiming this works or it doesnt. ^^^ It's your money, man. I'm just trying to prevent people from making the same mistakes. ¿? I dont have them ... I'm giving my professional opinion as I am an Optometrist here in spain and have worked a little bit with filters for sports , I'm lucky and have a few gun-shooters that come to me to get their prescriptions for example ; and they make an exhaustive usage of filters of all kind depending on the weather and light conditions. Go to an optometrist and depending on your situation he CAN prescribe you filters like these "Gaming Glasses". Therefore , this is not a Scam its one more product that we have and should be welcoming him , not bashing it for some stupid prejudice. Mind telling the audience what this means then: Product Features
* From our expanded online assortment; not available in all Best Buy stores * Immerse yourself in a rich visual environment and extend your gaming endurance with eye-enhancing technologies * Get a full view and added protection through highly wrapped, wide-covering eyewear * Optically pure diAMIX lens material delivers true images, lightweight wearability, impact-resistant durability and low color distortion * i-FI lens coatings filter wavelengths to neutralize harsh colors, giving you an unobstructed, clear view of the screen, and are scratch-resistant * Feel the comfort of the reduced visual stress, increased humidity levels and air current-blocking technology of fRACTYL lens geometry * Tune your eyes specifically to the light of your own environment and capture the healthy, helpful light already around you with the help of amber-colored iONik lens tints * Experience colors, characters and environments that pop with the sharpness of enhanced contrast * Get ergonomic comfort and long-lasting wear from the lightweight and stylish gloss-onyx frames * Color: gloss onyx (frames); amber (lenses)
Other then the fact that it's a bunch of bullshit to get you to pay $100 for glare reduction? Sure , these are all marketing names to things that already exist. Optically pure diAMIX = Material the lens is made ; probably not polycarbonate as it has high color distortion , probably some kind of Trivex , or modified Acrilate. i-FI lens coatings= antireflective coating. fRACTYL lens geometry = Curved Base lenses , as they cover the "eyeholes" almost entirely (dont know the english word for that) they prevent a little bit the eye dryness , in front of the computer we can get to blink a lot less so its not bad thought. amber-colored iONik lens tints= yellow high contrast filters. And everything else is about ergonomics and confort. youre paying $100 for a high contrast filter , not only for the glaring antireflective coating , and filters here in spain are expensive so its not a bad product or expensive product if its the amber filter what you are looking for.
I love posts like this. His arrogant dismissal of the concept as pure marketting bullshit countered by teamliquids resident store of experts on everything. except that he's wrong http://www.popularmechanics.com/technology/gadgets/4282190 To see if others might benefit from the glasses, I called up an expert. "They are unnecessary and I would advise against wearing them," says Dr. Kent Daum of the American Optometric Association. "If you're looking at a screen that isn't very bright, then sometimes canceling out glare can make [it] hard to see. Traditionally, if we're thinking about eliminating glare, a polarizing filter does that most significantly and best. Yellows have some effect, but not nearly to the effect of a polarized lens. It's much more helpful to get rid of glare by closing blinds or adjusting your monitor." Wow, there are experts that disagree on a given topic, SHOCKING! Dr. Kent Daum of the American Optometric Association vs. some guy on TL.net who claims "I am an Optometrist here in spain and have worked a little bit with filters " That is extremely rude and completely uncalled for.
About Kent Daum: Gunnar has a response here: http://www.reddit.com/r/science/comments/909hn/gunnar_optiks_glasses_are_placebos/c0b038u
Also, I love the Popular Science reference. They used Dr.Daum as a source and mis-quoted him. He happens to be one of the biggest proponents of vision correction for increased performance on the computer. http://www.prio.com/press/magazine/nyt.htmlWe've spoken with him and with Pop Sci and the editors refuse to publish anything to clarify their error.
Now, that seems kinda fishy to me, given as it's Gunnar's response and doesn't really have a proper citation, but I still wanted to point it out.

I saw this booth at WCG. The glasses actually do make things sharper but I'm sure there are things you should improve on your game before glasses actually matter......

So to people that have these, how uncomfortable is it to wear them with a SteelSeries Siberia v2? As someone who owns that type of headphones, It is extremely distracting to wear my prescription glasses.
|
While I doubt it's going to make any difference in gaming ability for someone like me, after reading the research link posted in the reddit post http://www.gunnars.com/docs/ldrus.pdf I can say I certainly believe these would help people who spend a lot of time at the computer every day. I spend a decent amount of time on the computer ~6-8 hours a day on average (work), much more on weekends (SC weekends++), but I do notice some eye strain from that. Apart from that though, I might get them just for the comfort of wearing them with my headset.
|
Well I don't have a Siberia v2, but my headphones are the same style. and the pair I have (which is a smaller, thinner frame style) doesn't get in the way of the headphones at all, since they go over ear anyways.
|
I got gaming glasses already, they are called my regular glasses. They work great.
