I would want to clarify this , Im not defending the Gunnar lenses as something astonishing , I tried to explain what they do that is banning the blue visible light and then enhancing the wavelenghts that we perceive better , the concept is not bad , and some people can see them useful
Of course as Kent Daum says in that little quotation , the better way to get rid of the glaring is a polarized lens , but they will take out all the polarized light , and some of the electronic devices that we have in our days emit polarized light through the screens making us unable to see the screen through the polar-glasses , and polar lenses look exactly like sunglasses cat 3-4 so theyre not suited for dark environments like a mid-lit room. This all makes me think he has been misquoted here.
if you need correction , you need it , go to an optometrist thats a separate thing from these kind of filters.
if you want to know about filters for screens , filters for sport , or wathever other kind of filter , an optometrist can also help you...
And please dont be rude I was trying to explain things here , not trying to give the glasses properties that they dont have , neither saying these gunnar glasses are a godsend.

This is ridiculous. I hope nobody would actually spend money on this. :S

Typically when you first put on the glasses it's very easy to notice the Yellow tint. But your eyes gradually adjust and much quicker the more you wear them. Most times I just forget that I'm wearing them and they are yellow until I actually take them off. But I've never had an issue distinguishing color and whatnot.

I had the same issues spending 8 hours at work and then someone when I came home infront of a computer screen. Started getting headaches, issues sleeping and a really annoying twitching. So I went to my mother (who works with people with visual impairments) and she sent me on my marry way to the optrician. He got me what I can only asume a pair of glasses with the same effect as these (seeing how they cleared up the stress on my eyes) for roughly 45$. That's half the price of these ones. I must however say that I recommend anyone that spends alot of time infront of a computer getting a pair of these kinds of glasses because they help alot in the long run.
Fair enough. Just like I could go get a pair of jeans for $20 at TJ Maxx or go spend $150 at Lucky 7.
Do the $150 jeans make me run faster? No, they are just fucking expensive cause they are a brand and a style. To me this is pretty much the same thing.
They obviously are selling their "style" with the glasses. I actually love my Wi-Five glasses cause they match the "style" of glasses I like to wear.
So yes I do agree with you that there are much cheaper alternatives to the Gunnars.

About $150 when everything was said and done. And you should check your eye coverage because many of them WILL let you get these types of glasses.
You should also just ask your company if they would reimburse you or perhaps make an exception because you do work with so many screens all day. Some people get away with buying crazy expensive chairs for their backs so maybe you can get the same for your eyes ^_^

Funny you mention this. When we were at MLG DC, Day9 was telling me he really wanted to try out a pair cause he was getting headaches. He was asking all sorts of questions about them and seemed really interested. We share a similar eye twitch issue.

Are these that same glasses? amazon.com/Gunnar-Computer-Glasses

Thanks for the reply djWHEAT! $150 is way lower than I was expecting - I will definitely follow up with their local retailer here in OK. My eye coverage is United Healthcare and I checked the pdf they sent around for 2010 but it still just says reimbursement/coverage for "Standard Single Vision" and bifocals/trifocals, which when we had spectera typically meant no special coatings. I think they will reimburse up to a certain amount for designer frames, which I assume these would fall under, so hopefully I can use that. But regardless, at $150 that's really not so bad considering... Thanks for the info!
I doubt they'd make an exception for me, as basically everyone at our company (and definitely every person in this office) is in the same boat, but you're right, it's silly they won't give more allowance for eye tech when yeah, every person here has one of those $700+ Aeron chairs.

There are other ways to deal with eyestrain than spending $100 on glasses. Here is what I do for instance:
+ Show Spoiler +
It works in most programs as you can see I have most programs already. I still don't ahve a black skype skin but I don't spend much time on skype except using the voice function not the visuals anyway.
Dark gray text on black with dark grayish blue links is nice. Just make sure your papers are set to automatic for text color when you turn them in to avoid sending a document that looks blank XD
I'd say try this before wasting your money on $100 glasses... also take regular breaks to look at distant objects since gaming doesn't make you focus on far objects (sounds stupid but it matters, your eyes learn to focus close for far objects if that makes sense).
HOW TO MAKE:
In Firefox go to Tools > Options > Colors
1) Uncheck "allow pages..." and set color manually or use system colors. 2) Change mouse pointers to black in mouse pointer settings 3) Go to themes (Right click desktop > personalize). Go to window color and set all the text to a dark grey (better than white imo), and all background to black. Here is a link to what I use, should be default text.
http://www.mediafire.com/?oymb04x0p7gydqf
There is also a really cool gray theme called "ThaImpact". Just google it, add "deviant art" to it if you can't find it for some odd reason.
For Google chrome go to the Wrench, options, personal stuff, and tiesto theme or w/e black theme you like works. For Firefox I use "darkfox" or something iono it should be one of the most popular.
My homepage is also "blackle.com" which is black google. The only issue is you can't search for images with it for some stupid reason.
Foobar2000 is the best music player ever and has black skins. VLC Media player is awesome and takes a black skin with black settings.

I'm actually thinking of buying those, with work included it's not uncommon for me to sit 12+ hours behind my computer a least a few days per week. And it gives you some style imo
|
i have them.
it prevents some headaches, and enlarges the screen surprisingly enough.
they're not bad. just up to you what is important about money/
|
I'll definitely wait until reviews from non biased players Until then I think its a waste of money.

I think the most important question is do they have Facebook integration?

I suppose that there is no way to have them with vision correction . My eyes do not suport lenses, and i litteraly cannot live without glasses.
Give them vision correction, and i think i'll buy one. I often find my eyes to be very tired afte playing too much SC2 :p

In general you want it arm length distance from where you are looking. and the default brightness on most monitors are garishly bright just as much as looking at a lightbulb. I turn my brightness way down on monitors it's unnecessarily you eyes will adjust for the lower brightness so there is no need for it to be eye damaging bright.
