In a headphone request thread I quote NovatheFeared.

That got me thinking. Why are things the TeamLiquid of other things? What makes something the TeamLiquid of something? It's a very prestigious honor, no doubt. I mean head-fi knows its stuff. I'd assume TeamLiquid would then too?
Can it only apply to forums? Would Coke be the TeamLiquid of soft drinks? While Faygo is the GosuGamers of soft drinks?
Is PokerStars the TeamLiquid of Poker? Or is LiquidPoker?
Just had me thinking. Please post examples or discuss to avoid me looking like an idiot.
Actually, to support me looking like an idiot, here's a picture of Arthur and the Crew. Feel free to use them in your discussion if that's what helps you. Brain is the TeamLiquid of Arthur characters. Binky is the GosuGamers.
sherdog.com is the teamliquid of MMA when it comes to articles, news and such. However their forum is complete shit and thus I can't think of a site that matches tl
bullshido is the teamliquid of martial arts. they have like an army of chills. They also have a verry active community with frequent meetups. They have a rich history of trolls. Legendary threads and such. And semi-pro and pro fighters actively contribute to the forum. There have actually been a few forum members who were on THE ULTIMATE FIGHTER. If you are a theory crafter, prepare to get every single belief you have about martial arts, and yourself, destroyed.
There are other sites that parallel TL's expertise in SC with their own subjects, but IMO all of the forums I've visited have communities far inferior to that of Teamliquid's.
Arenajunkies is the TL of WoW Arena. Or maybe elitistjerks is the TL of WoW Raiding. At least they were the most important forums back in the day, when I played WoW.
The problem with naming "___ is the Teamliquid of ____" is the trap that noobs will point you the wrong direction like "SCLegacy is the Teamliquid of Starcraft!!"

I'd say "NTT is the TeamLiquid of BM". Idra is not really on a clear #1 level of BM, his kind can be found on east in the dozen. Idra just have more skill so you notice him. Only downside of my argument is that NTT quit years ago.

teamliquid.net is the sclegacy of starcraft... am i doing it rite? lol jk
I had very high hopes for this thread and found some real gems. At the risk of backseat modding, can we set this thread back on track as it pertains to websites that excel within their given scene? I'm really interested to hear about more sites like Conceptart and that headphone one and don't want to have to read through dozens of clutter posts =(

Arenajunkies is garbage compared to Teamliquid. The mods are awful, the average poster is awful, and the game it represents has turned out to be awful as well. Sadly you are right though, which just goes to show how intelligent the average RTS player is compared to the average MMO player.
Interesting fact: Arenajunkies was actually a pretty good website until the masses found out about it at the beginning of WotLK, similar to how Teamliquid's popularity is increasing due to SC2 being launched. Hopefully the TL staff manages to steer the site clear of the path Arenajunkies went down.
http://www.talkbass.com/ is the TL of bass guitar forums. So many articles about everything you can think of being remotely related to bass/bassists are posted there and the community's awesome.
gsociety.org is the teamliquids of Digital art. There are like 50 different forum sections with everything from matte painting, figurative art, to 3d modelling. What is actually the teamliquid of WoW? Please don't say EJ or wow.com or something stupid. I not even sure a place like TL exists for WoW. TL is a hard thing to recreate.
Most of these are/have forums from what i can tell of 1 sec looking at the site :D Just a list of crap ppl posted ran though Bing.com search engine and picked at the first chose given

It is EJ though. A lot of threads are crap but the mods are pretty ruthless there, about on par with TL. However, there are a lot of quality posters there as well, and typically OPs are regularly updated with new information as it emerges (particularly many of the class forums). AJ for PvP is much less organized and a nightmare to traverse, and frankly their forums are awful, but it's the best resource you can find.
EDIT: Also, good shit Semantics for consolidating all those site links. Can the OP update the first post with that?
Some more I could add that might help some people out: UPSB is the Teamliquid of penspinning. Discogs is the Teamliquid of discographies. (lolol) VGMdb is the Teamliquid of video game music discographies. Dustloop is the Teamliquid of BlazBlue. Tekken Zaibatsu is the Teamliquid of Tekken.
I visit these sites a lot (or at least, used to visit them a lot)

Sherdog articles and rankings also suck. They have decent news, though. The best MMA forum is probably Still Islands. Most of the best veteran posters from different sites merged together there because of all the idiot new MMA fans flooding the more popular sites.
To be honest, Teamliquid is turning out to be the Teamliquid of Skyrim, the way the other community sites have been turning out >.<
Also, am I one of the few who interpret the "Teamliquid of" to be indicative of the community, rather than the simple status of "important"? For example, Smogon is the Teamliquid of Pokemon because of its large community. Saying something like "X webcomic is the Teamliquid of webcomics" wouldn't be the same because that only indicates how the webcomic is popular/important, not that it has an actual community devoted to its members (unless the webcomic actually did fit that criterion).
Not going to search the thread, to see if any have been used.
Tastosis is the Teamliquid of event coverage. Chipotle is the TeamLiquid of burritos. Dr. Pepper is the TeamLiquid of sodas. Packers are the TeamLiquid of Football Hotpockets are the TeamLiquid of cheap diarhea
Not sure if this has been posted (I've tried ctrl+F to search) but.. Tasteless: "Teamliquid is the Bank of America of e-sports sites. It's too big to fail and I stopped using my account there like 5 years ago."

I'm still not getting why people are saying "X object is the Teamliquid of Y field". I feel like to be the Teamliquid of something one must have a massive community, not simply significance within that field. For example, Intel is not the Teamliquid of CPUs. Intel itself is not a large community.

I agree. A small number of these are funny, and have properly caught the essence of the joke, but most of these are just bad and no better than simple substitutions of the word "best" with "teamliquid". e.g. "michael phelps is teamliquid of the swimming pool" <--notfunny

these aren't supposed to be funny, it's supposed to be a thread where people from the various communities who have all found themselves on teamliquid can share the various forums they once spent their time on that somewhat resembled the strong community or quality dominance that team liquid exudes.
Maybe not a perfect analogy, but I find my basic algorithm for learning stuff on the internet: 1) Is it about starcraft -> TL 2) Is it not about starcraft -> Wikipedia -> Maybe somewhere wikipedia directs me to. This probably has a lot to do with me rarely looking for information of the detail I would with starcraft related topics
oh wow this thread again. please posters- understand the analogy before you post. just because tl is the best thing, it doesn't mean you just say apples are the teamliquid of fruit because you like them. apples don't have a forum or a chill or a hotbid

this would actually be a cool thread, if there were more of reasonable suggestions and less of empty chatter (or atleast, an updated OP, but since it is very old, maybe a new one would have to be made). because many things get exponentially better as a hobby, when you find the right forum.
for example

It's hilarious because of how bad the BM is. It's usually "you're a fucking dumbass" or something to that effect. Sometimes he has some good ones though like "making carriers is a good skill to have" or "apologize for playing that race".
