check me out. heh heh. PingTest.net This is a cool thing I found on speedtest.net. (It says speed does not tell the whole story! and links you to that website.) Ping is important in any online pc game, but packet loss can be the difference from being very precise to not being able to keep up with your enemy. I think packet loss effects precision FPS games like the Unreal Tournament series the most. With higher packet loss, your opponent will skip around the screen. No headshots = nerdrage/accusation of hacking. Take a deep breath and drink more caffiene.
Seriously. It will be okay. Its not you.
I have Comcast in western Massachusetts, and the internet here is great but so damn inconsistant. Sometimes I get crazy lag spikes that frequent in a few hours, and some days I get seemingly flawless internet. The first time I tried pingtest, I got an "F" grade for high packet loss percentage. I tried like 5 times after and got As every time. Take the test and post your results and discuss how you ISP ownz your gaming experience.
+ Show Spoiler +Edit: Topic title= PingTest.net. Another way to measure your epenis.

Only wimps test their crap by testing something next door to them i test my line across my country to New York or Florida, after all the Internet isn't all contained in California.
![[image loading]](http://www.pingtest.net/result/18236293.png) Would be an A if i could get a ping of sub 100ms over 3000 miles

nice site sometimes I can't play FPS games at all due to 'choppiness', I'll have to try this out when it happens next.

I'm getting packet loss to all the servers close to me.
What are the most common reasons for packet loss?

At home I have relatively bad network latency to anywhere else. I know my DSL line is interleaved, and there's some local hop that contributes about 45 ms. Of course, stats are worse at night than at noon:

Some DSL 2000, which is the highest bandwidth available where I live. It's not that far from Munich, but somehow the connection is just bad. Telekom obviously doesn't really want to invest into the infrastructure of a small village.

if you cant measure packet loss its usually something to do with firewall settings not allowing pingtest to send stuff, just add the site to allow and it'll work.

I hate to be the one to ruin the fun but... aside from us learning how we can test our 'ping' and 'jitter', what is the point of hundreds of people all copy/pasting a picture of their results? How is this different from everyone randomly pasting the color of their shirt right now into a new thread? It seems kinda pointless.

You guys should just make U.S. battle.net accounts on your first copy. It does suck though for everyone that's going to buy the game in Australia without knowing that they could go on U.S. instead.

I got 40ms/10ms to the closest server, which seemed somewhat sub-par.
So I went over to SpeedGuide.net and did some tweaking, which actually reduced the jitter to about 1-3ms, as well as improved my ping slightly. Pretty nifty.

Yeah most people I've talked to, including myself are planning to get US accounts. Means the Australian community is going to be split across the south east asia server and the US server, making Australian tournaments pretty much impossible to run.

So why exactly would a person get different results each time a test is run- I've been graded from D to A (135 ms to 35 ms) on the same sever- Vancouver to Washington (200 mi). Is it a very unstable internet connection?

So, top one is to Washington DC which is like...30 minutes away, and the second one is to San Francisco on the other side of the country. Pretty good if you ask me! Pfft @ Verizon being 3 stars, man, this is the best connection I've had in a long time.

The ISP name is FREE The subscription cost is 37€/Month
If you wanna know more about their offer + Show Spoiler + made by the designer philippe starckThis offer is real new it only started in January although most of it already existed before that. 1. An internet box called Freebox server : Accepts xdsl and optical fiber. It includes a gigabit ethernet switch with 4 ports, a Wi-Fi 802.11n 3x3 450 Mbps chip and a 250GB hard drive to use as a NAS / video recording storage. It is possible to add more storage by plugging in external usb hard drives. An OLED screen on the Freebox server allows to control it directly but it is more practical using the incredibly well done local web interface that allows among other things to manage ip routing and downloads, enable upnp, monitor bandwidth usage or switch off the box. 2. A TV box called freebox player : based around an intel sodaville chip with 1GB DDR3. It comes with a BlueRay disc player and supports DTS true hd decoding through HDMI. The basic TV offer included in the price gives access to all french and foreign basic channels broadcasted in france (158 channels) and the associated catch up tv services. Much more premium channels are available for an additional monthly fee as well as vod services. All basic channels can also be watched on any computer connected to the freebox server and there is a possibility to receive an additional TV box for a monthly fee to use in another room. As for the interface, it navigates much like the one of the playstation systems and is pretty good looking. You can use it to record TV and use time shifting but it is also possible to organize recordings from anywhere through any computer or iphone connected to internet. The interface is not perfect right now but i expect it to improve a lot especially because the big user base usually produces mods for the player. The remote controler for the Freebox player uses radio waves and comes with a gyro & accelerometer. It can be used to browse over internet from your TV similarly to a Wiimote although i must say i don't find it very reactive. Still, it gets the job done. The box also comes with a gamepad which connects to the usb port. The games that currently exists are pretty bad but they look at least as good as what a wii can do and the controler is really nice. More games and softwares should be available soon in Free's appstore called Freestore 3. Phone : No need for a hardline subscription. Free unlimited calls to 115 countries including France, US & Canada Cell phones I'm pretty excited about it! Pretty cool isn't it?
Sick company! Best ISP in the world!

These ping tests don't mean anything, because pingtest.net always gets a very close server, so you'll always obtain great results. Example : I'm in China with a more than terrible connection :
![[image loading]](http://www.pingtest.net/result/40857061.png)
Now let's do something that makes sense, and let's pick manually a server in a location close to Iccup server :

Most likely you either don't have the java runtime environment installed, or the required ports are blocked. Check the error message you get after doing the pingtest on the left hand side.

Maybe its your router which is misconfigured, your ISP is just horribad or something happened to the lines during this test.
