check me out. heh heh. PingTest.net This is a cool thing I found on speedtest.net. (It says speed does not tell the whole story! and links you to that website.) Ping is important in any online pc game, but packet loss can be the difference from being very precise to not being able to keep up with your enemy. I think packet loss effects precision FPS games like the Unreal Tournament series the most. With higher packet loss, your opponent will skip around the screen. No headshots = nerdrage/accusation of hacking. Take a deep breath and drink more caffiene.
Seriously. It will be okay. Its not you.
I have Comcast in western Massachusetts, and the internet here is great but so damn inconsistant. Sometimes I get crazy lag spikes that frequent in a few hours, and some days I get seemingly flawless internet. The first time I tried pingtest, I got an "F" grade for high packet loss percentage. I tried like 5 times after and got As every time. Take the test and post your results and discuss how you ISP ownz your gaming experience.
+ Show Spoiler +Edit: Topic title= PingTest.net. Another way to measure your epenis.

Only wimps test their crap by testing something next door to them i test my line across my country to New York or Florida, after all the Internet isn't all contained in California.

nice site sometimes I can't play FPS games at all due to 'choppiness', I'll have to try this out when it happens next.

I'm getting packet loss to all the servers close to me.
What are the most common reasons for packet loss?

Amazingly Version Fios doesn't do much good. >.>

At home I have relatively bad network latency to anywhere else. I know my DSL line is interleaved, and there's some local hop that contributes about 45 ms. Of course, stats are worse at night than at noon:
