People gave money earlier on to help with the shipping expenses. If you go back say, to when the orders being taken, you would find out about how cost had gone up for some things because of the large orders people made. Rather than ask for more money (as people had paid under the assumption of a certain price), she used money people had already given her as a thank you for the hard work to pay for it.
