Anyways, it got me thinking. If you guys won the lottery, what would you do with the 6.5 million dollars? Would it be spent on lavish things such as nice cars, boats, and a house, or would you be one of the conservative spenders? Maybe invest it? I'd love to hear what you guys would do with that much money.

I know the statistics are out there somewhere so I'll avoid a hard number here but most lottery winners burn through the money really fast, if you get to talk to your friend again try to impart the wonder of the special the gift he has; he can live modestly for the rest of his life or live extravagantly for a few years.

Come to think of it, when you have a cool 5 million bucks, so many things are cheap. Like massive plasma screens and car insurance. And eating at chinese restaurants, ect. I think it would still take a bit to break my money saving habits though.

I think a lot of the people that win the lottery quit their jobs which is a huge mistake. "I have millions of dollars now I don't need to work anymore" is surely a mindset that plagues younger people that win the lottery. That is probably why so many people end up worse after they win the lottery than before.

From that, I'd buy a house, nothing too expensive, but a decent enough house that I'd have a spare bedroom or two, in case I ever had company over, and that I wouldn't outgrow it too fast. I'd continue my education. If for whatever reason I were to lose the money, I'd want to be able to do something that I'd be able to live comfortable, even without the money. I would take some, maybe no more than 5-10% of the post-tax lump sum, and take a vacation, buy a car, splurge a bit, whatever. I'd put a bit in a normal checking account, then stick the remaining 60-70% into different savings/investments.

Also i think i would completly stop my studies ( or start to study something REALLY interesting and not something that gives job opportunities ) and give some money to my bro and help him to buy a house and parents ( for their second house ). Maybe i would buy my own house too xD Also i would probably move somewhere else because my country is run by idiots and because taxes are ridiculous. And i would definitly invest my money.

If I had 6.5 million (FYI, only about 4 million after taxes, depending on your state), I'd invest it and live the same. Then near the end of my life, I'd do the same--set up a trust fund so my future family can benefit. More likely than not, the $4M is going to be a lot more than $4M inflation adjusted if I end up living the same way.

- a nice house near the coast of Spain, not too big or crazy (300k is plenty for that). - a studio for sculpting/painting stuff (also quite cheap compared to ones in the Americas). - a good sailboat that is capable of sailing along the Mediterranean coast. - an efficient/reliable/comfortable car (not Boji/200k+ like Rekrul). I would also give 1 million to my family, have 2 million invested, and have 1 million for my unborn offspring that they will never know about. Still left with a considerable amount to play around with. I'd get a small house which would be around $300000 which would be half or so. Rest would be in a decent car, a few video game consoles (and games of course) and a ton of manga. Everything else I could bring from what I already have. Anything else I need I can spend the rest. Fuck i just realized my garage will cost more than my house -Another couple hundred grand on sick nice shit like a watch, clothes, basically rich people shit so i can be super ballin when i roll up to vegas in my r8 -the rest will cover random vacations/absurd amounts of alcohol/partying/gambling/etc -I will finish college and get a job to pay the bills and raise my kids. Life without a purpose is not a life at all. I will be able to do something i love though and not worry about how much it pays. -Probably give away some amount to charity or some shit. college for kids as well.

Take like 1 million of it, buy a nice new house, not too expensive, but something that will appreciate. New car, stuff like that. Half of that 1 million will probably go into a locked retirement fund or something. 1 million to family. And just be a lazy ass for a few years. Do some traveling. Eventually, I'm sure I'll go back to work/devote my life to something a bit more meaningful, and I'll always have something to fall back on if something were to happen (or if I just want to break for a while). It'd be nice. Lol, kinda mundane.

I agree that there is obviously a disconnect between what one imagines they would do in a situation and what they actually would do if presented with the scenario, but if I were to play devil's advocate, I would draw your attention to the fact that the demographic drawn to competitive strategy games is likely more intelligent than average.

Also since most of the people at TL have been responsible thus far in their lives they have no idea what monster might come out when they place them selves and even as little as 10k directly in harms way, for the sake of experience. also it has absolutely nothing to do with intelligence. out of the 10 most intelligent people i have ever known ( myself not included ^ ^) the top 4 spiraled insanely out of control, the top 2 of those are somewhat stabilized in a certain mediocrity trying to convince themselves the rest of their life is worth living, and of the other 2 , one is wealthy and stable, and the other is trying hard to get there. having very shaky results but still looks promising.

I have had the luxury of being able to live my entire life already financially secure, so i gain very little out of it. Certainly a very large sum would go into charity, id probably (if i were old enough) spend some of it on WSOP poker. It's nice to know that i want to live life and work hard for life and not for money.

Other than that I would mostly just live life as normal, except getting myself a nice place to live, and traveling to other countries a bit more often.
