Anyways, it got me thinking. If you guys won the lottery, what would you do with the 6.5 million dollars? Would it be spent on lavish things such as nice cars, boats, and a house, or would you be one of the conservative spenders? Maybe invest it? I'd love to hear what you guys would do with that much money.

Watch your friend to see what happens to him because it is really hard to stay on a schedule that will prolong the money instead of just blowing it on drugs and other crazy things.

I know the statistics are out there somewhere so I'll avoid a hard number here but most lottery winners burn through the money really fast, if you get to talk to your friend again try to impart the wonder of the special the gift he has; he can live modestly for the rest of his life or live extravagantly for a few years.

There is actually a lot of people who regret even winning the lottery in the first place. I remember watching this show on CNN that gave some ridiculous high percentage of people who actually were worse off after wasting their winnings as well as their own money who were all winners of large sums of cash. Watch your friend to see what happens to him because it is really hard to stay on a schedule that will prolong the money instead of just blowing it on drugs and other crazy things. its not like win = death by drugs, it depends a lot on the person. But psychologists actually suggest that if you win you shouldn't change anything drastically in your live, just continue with you school/job and only slowly use the money to ease your life.

Come to think of it, when you have a cool 5 million bucks, so many things are cheap. Like massive plasma screens and car insurance. And eating at chinese restaurants, ect. I think it would still take a bit to break my money saving habits though.

I think a lot of the people that win the lottery quit their jobs which is a huge mistake. "I have millions of dollars now I don't need to work anymore" is surely a mindset that plagues younger people that win the lottery. That is probably why so many people end up worse after they win the lottery than before.

From that, I'd buy a house, nothing too expensive, but a decent enough house that I'd have a spare bedroom or two, in case I ever had company over, and that I wouldn't outgrow it too fast. I'd continue my education. If for whatever reason I were to lose the money, I'd want to be able to do something that I'd be able to live comfortable, even without the money. I would take some, maybe no more than 5-10% of the post-tax lump sum, and take a vacation, buy a car, splurge a bit, whatever. I'd put a bit in a normal checking account, then stick the remaining 60-70% into different savings/investments.

Also i think i would completly stop my studies ( or start to study something REALLY interesting and not something that gives job opportunities ) and give some money to my bro and help him to buy a house and parents ( for their second house ). Maybe i would buy my own house too xD Also i would probably move somewhere else because my country is run by idiots and because taxes are ridiculous. And i would definitly invest my money.
