You misunderstand internet discussion, generally if someone disagrees with you in basically any way, it's because EITHER: - They didn't read or fully understand what you wrote. - You didn't explain correctly, or explain enough.
So what it comes down to is you just have to go through what was posted and semi-assume that the other guy had gotten something wrong, ask a few questions, and state some things that might have been missing. Don't pretend like they are insulting you or getting mad in any way, because they usually aren't

Well I'd certainly feel safer in a tankier ship at close ranges, also with a web. It's all relative to what you're fighting of course, and there is always the unpredictability of the EVE battlefield.
|
Even if a harbinger had 300,000 EHP, I will wouldnt want to get close with it. You will get scrammed, local will spike by +25 and Eve Uni will have 20 blackbirds jam you while you are very slowly killed.
|
Amarr should have a ship that's just a ball shape with 50 medium turret points and 10 feet of armor
|
You probably wouldn't have this problem if you explained things clearer and held off on making generalized statements supported only by claims of personal merit. Also you shouldn't act under the impression that everyone is against you and trying to launch a personal attack on your integrity. Bolding statements that pretty much tries to belittle the person you're arguing with in every other post probably most likely didn't help your cause.

Anyway Mumble, the point people are making is that you came to TL for the EVE thread, which is not what TL is about. You've also been a little hostile in your method of argumentation, which, intentional or not, is something a lot of TL'ers pick up on and will enter the argument on the other side because they feel the need to defend their fellow TL'er from an "outsider".
You are making good points, and your post quality is a lot higher than many new people we get around here. I suggest you hop around General and Blogs and just have some fun. Also preview and reread your posts before posting.

I personally just wanted to up my post count and defend my EFT warrior honor. Also why do you have a puzzle icon tofu. Did Kwark trick you into doing weird liquidpedia stuff with the promise of free ammo for the rest of your eve life?

I'm doing my damnedest to do just what you said, Body. I'm finding what the other guy missed, re-posting what I said before that they didn't take into account, and clarifying further. I'm not pretending anyone is insulting me either: it is simply pretty galling to have someone glance over a fit or a strategy you just laid out and then tell you that it's bad in all situations because it doesn't work for them in some ways.
I don't think they're mad either, though many of you seem very persistent on insisting that I'm wrong about some key givens even when I've explained them more than one way.

I guess, if you can't ever stand being close to someone you're fighting then you're stuck with flying a certain kind of ship. It's a pity really, some of the most gorgeous PVP ships in the game are up-close brawlers. It's a whole new world; you should try a few fits out on the test server, maybe in some 1v1s or 1v2s, or just play around with corpmates in 2v2 or 3v3 skirmishes. There's some really good ships out there you're missing.

If you have any pointers about what I'm doing that's being "hostile" I'd be glad to hear them in a PM. I'm just responding directly and pointedly to people who tell me that I'm extremely wrong without making a full effort to comprehend what I'm even saying first.
It's time for me to go to bed though.

Hey guys, question, can I fly a bit with you guys even if I don't join your corp? I'm kinda getting a little bit bored with the NC for the time being, and may negotiate living in high/low sec for a bit.
|
I do plan on making a Navy Issue Apoc and an Abaddon for solo PvP in the future (a long way off, I still have to skill for a Curse and maybe Legion first). Iunno thought I'd mention it.

Someone in this thread really loves himself too much (and for once its not me)

Naw, I just haven't downloaded 1.4 yet, havent logged on in 3 days. Since I live in China, I've got about 10 hours until this fucker downloads, which means 10 hours of slowass unusable internet. Woop, THE THINGS I DO FOR YOU EVE.

i didnt get any 1.5gb shenanigans.

I think its because I'm on a mac and they cant be fucked to compress the mac files...
I will join SCBW when I get into game... Provided of course I'm not getting my dick pulled off and restuck back into my arsehole... You see my home station is Ap9... Probably top 5 hottest systems in the game right now, with daily intakes of 500 russians

Maybe if you read the news every now and then you'd have noticed...I've been working on Liquipedia since before I started EVE :|

On April 07 2011 20:49 Mumbleskates wrote: So let me get this straight. Let's say I'm not an 'established' member of the TL community, and I happen to make a statement early on that someone disagrees with. I counter the argument, explain/repeat my reasons, and provide examples. The other party remains stubborn, continuing to insist that I am wrong for reasons irrelevant to the original discussion, probably by ignoring additional points of my original statements. [1]
At this point I am spending most of my posts defending my argument, explaining myself, and asking people to be more thorough when they read my posts so that I don't have to perpetually repeat the same things. [2]
This in turn earns me a 'Cold Shoulder,' which dooms me to further bad treatment and trolling from other frequenters of the thread. Any attempt at maintaining a consistent argument at this point, keeping up my original points, causes the situation to spiral forever out of control, ending in a ban. [3]
This pattern happens often enough that you can see it coming days away? That's not a very welcoming sort of community. [4]
[1] You forgot the part where you call everyone involved in the discussion a moron (herp derp sry I'll use littler words for u).
[2] You forgot the part where you call everyone involved in the discussion a moron.
[3] If you come into TL with the mentality that anyone who disagrees with you is personally attacking you and that you have to defend your e-honor by smiting those willful peasantry down, then you will run into this problem. If someone disagrees with you, simply post the fit and call it a day.
[4] People come to TL all the time. People are banned from TL early and often. So the community here isn't used to seeing the vitriol and abandon with which you might post at some throwaway forums elsewhere. A huge number of newcomers to TL prepare their e-honor for a ban by claiming "these forums are clearly <insert negative adjective". This leads almost inevitably up to "I might get banned for this but whatever" which is called martyring.
-----------
There's no need to feel insulted or attacked if someone misinterprets what you are saying. Sard posted the fit he did because it's a very common style of PvP cane that he's seen 1000 times and would never imagine that someone would actually fly the cane that you posted in a real PvP engagement. His assumption was that the fit you were talking about was a "real" fit whereas it was mostly a theoretical exercise. Next time you could try posting the actual fit as your first response (along with a short explanation of the fit's intention) instead of a bunch of pre-emptive insults to prepare for e-battle.
