I really want to play him though. I hope I still feel that way when I get my hands on him. I didn't feel this way about any of the characters on Blazblue before. i wonder why he's considered low tier... the impression i get from the vids: his normals look like they have terrible range. and he's really easy to guard break? i saw a vid where hakumen guard broke him in like 4 or 5 hits wtf. and i think he has below normal health? it kind of seems like it. he doesn't seem to do much damage either with his combos. it's a little early to tell though isn't it? game has only been out for a week in the arcade right? I'm actually really looking forward to the new one. CT really feels like it has a lot of POTENTIAL but as it stands the game feels really flawed. a little slow like sf4 (looking forward to SSF4 as well heh) and it didn't really have a character that I liked. I only played arakune because I disliked him+Hakumen the least of all the characters (tied) and I decided that I'm better off playing arakune over hakumen. Hazama on the other hand looks like someone I'll actually enjoy playing despite him seeming like he's not very good. I have a feeling he has a bad matchup against tager. I really hope this isn't true because that's going to be fucking terrifying seeing as my best competition will play tager and I usually pick characters that counter his character because I know he is better than me and I'm trying to make sure he gets experience in the matchups people will counterpick him in Also, it's easier on me mentally. Playing 60 games in a row and losing every single one is discouraging heh. Though it's not that big a deal, that's how it used to be when I first started playing third strike. I did that daily for several months when I first started and then I remember being so happy the first time I won JUST 1 MATCH after 4 months of dudley calling me "gutter trash".

Actually, I like Hazama the best of BB's cast too. He's got the strangest 2D FG characterdesign I've ever seen. Really weird and cool. He is one of those chars, which if are given to an SFIV player, that person commits suicide.

![]() anotak, your story reminds me of when I learned to play 3s. Some days I'd go 0-40 against one of the best guys at the arcade. When I won a ROUND against one of them for the first time, I was thinking about it for HOURS afterwards. ^___^ Same with my first win, and my first perfect, which I still remember (dash-up karakusa, post-hayate mixup, karakusa, post-hayate mixup, delayed SA1 for the kill) ![]() Also, the first time I beat this one guy (who was prolly the best player there), he did NOT look happy: he just left without saying anything. ![]()

I know I probably won't ever play Blazblue just like I've never had a chance to play GGXXAC I only got a PC and there is no scene in Hungary BUT just by watching the new vids What the fuck was arcsys thinking lol Is it that hard to balance a new character? At least remotely.

![]() Though this may not have historically been the case, perhaps developers today are erring on the side of making new characters weak rather than balanced in the middle of the pack. It's better to have a new useless character on the roster than a new god-tier character ruining the rest of your balancing.

At least remotely. it IS that hard to balance a character. The developers of games tend not to be people who have much of an understanding of how the game works. Even a person like Sirlin who placed at EVO made some completely fucking stupid choices on HD Remix and he SHOULD have the understanding needed. but he made some bad choices especially for the characters he doesn't play. it's a lot harder than you would think since they have to deal with all sorts of subtle things just like "how many + frames will this move be on block, 3 or 4". The other issue is that they try to make changes that improve a bad matchup and they don't perceive the effect of the change on other matchups. For example: In HD Remix, Sirlin said they weakened the hitbox of cammy's j.mp due to his perception that Cammy has a slight advantage matchup over Dhalsim (so that Sim's slide would beat j.mp)... but this hurt cammy's already bad matchups with Deejay and Honda. Dhalsim's matchup with cammy wasn't THAT bad before to justify this. Also: http://curryallergy.blogspot.com/2008/07/super-diagram-turbo-version-1.html Sabin and Jason Cole said that Dhalsim has advantage over cammy so I don't know why they decided to do this. And this happens all over the place. Another is Sean on SF3. He was pretty broken on Second Impact, yet on 3S he's hands down the worst character. Interestingly enough, they added Chun Li to the cast of characters and she is broken for pretty much the SAME REASONS as Sean was in previous games (stupid normals, ridiculously safe, very good at turtling and building meter, deadly super, gets more advantage out of parrying than other characters, ridiculous option selects). Claw is another example perhaps (though I don't know how he faired in alpha 3) on SF2 he was godlike and probably the easiest character to play on any street fighter... on the other hand on SF4 they were very careful with him. They didn't want a repeat of how he was before so they were a little too careful in creating him. On the other hand there is the hilarious example of Storm on MVC2 who was actually slightly NERFED from previous vs. games

Another thing they should start doing is patching their games solely to balance them, without adding new characters. Examu's free 2.6 patch for Arcana Heart 2 is an example of this, and that patch left the game with extraordinary balance. StarCraft is another example of what you can accomplish when you release (free) patches solely for balancing (and bugfixing). IMO fighting game makers definitely need to start taking this approach if they want to have well-balanced products.

Entered BB side tourney at UFO's ranbats, placed 3rd with Tsubaki by beating a Bang player then losing to fubar's Hazama. Tsubaki + Sanwas = "imma bait his super yep there it is wait why did I get counter-hit wtf" x3 in one game into lose the match. Honestly Tsubaki seems unplayably bad. Hsien is convinced that she's decent, but watching him drop rounds to random scrubs that he would 3-0 like a billion games in a row for free with any other character isn't really proving his point. Whatever, Hakumen is playable now so maybe I'll play him.
